"A loving home."

My husband underwent surgery at JHB Surgical Hospital. My daughter and I found a safe, clean, friendly, quiet, affordable haven nearby at 5th Avenue Gooseberry Guest House, and found empathy in the people of the house! They place a high premium on tranquility with notices to be considerate and not to make noise. On Saturday morning, the soft music plays in the quiet living room. For me it was like a home.

Everything was comfortably furnished with enough coffee and tea for the weekend. Safe and close to quiet eateries. Sufficient provision has been made for lights and WiFi during load shedding.

The bedrooms were lovely and the reception rooms were beautiful. Lovely gardens and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this lovely guest house! A lot of character and charming! We had a wonderful stay!

Although we didn't have hot water on Friday night, the problem was sorted early the next morning. Furthermore, we had a very nice stay. Will definitely stay there again in the future. What made it even nicer was that the guest house was within walking distance of cute coffee shops and eateries.

Although we had cold water one night, I'm still satisfied. The deal was breakfast included, but according to Avenue Gooseberry Guest House it wasn't.

It was a nice stay, room maybe a bit smaller than I expected. Room and bathroom very nice and clean. The main house very cosy, with a nice garden and outdoor seating area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Location very good for where we wanted to go.

"I feel they could put more effort into basic amenities such as towels and that the shower works decently for the money you pay, but the service and food were very good."

5th Avenue Gooseberry Guest House is pleasant with very friendly service on site. The breakfast was very nice. The gardens are very beautiful. I was somewhat disappointed that the facilities were not quite up to standard for the amount charged. The towels are very small and old and the shower does not work properly with no drainage and you have to jump around to catch a drop. An additional chair for hair/make-up etc. would have been nice instead of only a Wingback bench.

Firstly, they don't have DSTV which was a total let down as we have full bouquet at home. Also some of the channels on our TV had no sound. I then asked to be moved to another room, same story. The bed was very small and our backs were so painful in the morning as the mattress was as hard as a rock!

Room is spacious with enough storage space. A safe for valuables, convenient bathroom with clean towels nicely displayed, plus extra soap etc. each day. Bed is big and comfortable with clean linen. Tea and coffee and what goes with it is available as well as a small fridge which was of value to me seeing as how I don't drink tea or coffee. TV has a few channels - unfortunately not KykNet - but that didn't really bother me. Receive keys and remote of gates that makes your coming and going independent. Breakfast was really exceptional! Luckily the unclearness of the inclusion or exclusion of breakfast was sorted out professionally. Stayed one day longer and payment regarding that was problematic but also solved quickly. Criticism: no key for sliding door in room, curtains in bathroom can be replaced to look/work better, curtains in front of the sliding door doesn't close properly and it wasn't very clean there - in the corner - dust and cobwebs.

Reception very welcoming with your name on the notice board. Spacious rooms and a peaceful atmosphere makes this place an excellent choice of accommodation. Decor is artsy and adds to the unique atmosphere.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay, Gerard was such a gentleman and so willing to help out wherever I needed. I felt very safe and enjoyed staying in the suburbs as it was peaceful. It was also a stones throw away from some hip and lovely little restaurants which was ideal for dinner. The decor and set out was very different but lovely none the less, I enjoyed it as it had a homely feel and found the designs added some fun to it. Would definitely recommend!
