We needed peace and quiet. We needed a beautiful tranquil place with friendly hosts. We got that and so much more. We will be back.
We had an amazing time away, watching nature all around, and the peace and quiet was very needed to recharge our batteries. You don't have to be fit to enjoy this place. The walks around are flat and easy, and the guys on the bikes enjoyed riding around. The house was comfortable and had everything you needed. You are in the country, so you will have a few country bugs attracted to your candle light. You are about the only light in a 10 km radius, but don't let that put you off from coming to this place. It's worth it. Will I be back? Most definitely.

Wow, what a peaceful place. If you want to get away from the everyday rush, this is the perfect place where time stands still. Most beautiful little cottage to spend some time with a loved one!
We were 12 family members and enjoyed the break from the city. It almost feels like you are in the forest with the goats around you, and the beautiful stars! Our hostess welcomed us with freshly baked bread! What a feast.

You can't ask for better. The cottage is absolutely 100% equipped with everything you need. We will definitely go back and this place is now also on our permanent list of top accommodation!
We had a great time. The fact that the house is in a game camp makes it very special. The goats roaming near the house were any photographer's dream! And it's also a birdwatcher's paradise! I would gladly recommend the place. Thank you very much for your kindness and your help and feeding the goats! Two very nice hosts.
My husband liked it. His wife not so much. Place needs fumigation regularly, crickets are disgusting. Not enough hooks, and nothing in showers for soap, shower wash, etc. I had three nights of no sleep due to no curtains in front room where crickets were jumping against window when lights were on. Animals were amazing, but that was about it for Peter's wife. Kitchen layout and cup sizes I loved. Very user friendly. Bread not necessary as it's dry (not sourdough or rye) at all. Jake was friendly, not his wife, she got back in van when she saw us, not even a welcome.
Never missed TV/WiFi or any other technology. The closeness to nature and the different antelope (eland, springbuck, kudu, nyala, and impala) provided rest for the soul. Bonding with my wife, sitting on the stoep till late and early morning having coffee, listening to the sounds of nature, priceless.
If you are looking for peace and quiet, fresh air in your lungs, then this is the place for you. Birds chirping early in the morning and drinking your coffee in silence is absolutely refreshing. The bonus is the moose and springboks that wander peacefully, so bring your camera and binoculars, you definitely won't regret it.

Will go back again. Had a great time. There is everything you need. Maybe just pack camping chairs to make sitting on the porch even more enjoyable. We saw many goats, had a nice walk.
While there was a storm, we were comfortable and warm thanks to the indoor fireplace. The unit depends on solar power and while the batteries ran low, we never experienced a power failure.

Unbelievably beautiful views, sunsets and wildlife on your doorstep. All that one needs to escape from the daily rush. Owners are hospitable and helpful.
We stayed in the Aloe Canyon Cottage for a week and it was so peaceful and quiet, just what we were looking for. Walked around the farm during the day and looked for the goats and sat in front of the fire in the evening and visited. Lovely to stand on the porch and watch the sun go down. The wildlife visited us regularly and it should be a paradise for bird watchers. The nice leather couch in front of the sliding door was perfect for lying down and reading or watching the rain on a cold day. This is the perfect place if you just want to switch off.
Beautiful surroundings with the animals that come to visit. Within traveling distance of Arniston, Struisbaai and L'Agulhas for day visits and then also day trips to Montagu and Barrydale on circular route. Beds very comfortable. Benches may be replaced, moved out and would suggest perhaps installing hooks in bathrooms where you can hang your towels.
We arrived and instructions were very clear, and we settled in our cottage. Owners arrived in the late afternoon and we spent some time together. Awesome experience and looking forward to going back!

This is definitely 1 of our 'have to go back' spots. Quiet, peaceful, teeming with wildlife, spectacular view. The roaming buck, eland, nyala, springbokkies came to graze within a couple of meters from where we were sitting. Highly recommended.
We visited Aloe Canyons in the December holidays and spent Christmas Day there. Best decision we could have made to get away from the crowds that invade the Cape this time of year. The Rooidakhuis was very comfortable accommodation, and the village a wonderful base from which we could comfortably reach De Hoop, Bontebok National Park, Malgas, Agulhas, Struisbaai and Elim without a rush.
The cottage sits on the river and is really an amazing place to be able to drink coffee in the morning. The silence and nature are incredible. We will definitely visit again!

Comfortable, remote accommodation close to De Hoop & Swellendam. Nice view over the hills to the mountains at Swellendam. The accommodation is located in a game camp with eland, impala, kudu, springbok, nyala, first time we could be so close to the game goats.

In the middle of nowhere. Very nice location, everything we required. House immaculate and clean, but still has old world charm. The owners feed the wild animals in front of the cottage so one is able to watch quietly and then follow directions for walking. This is a lovely place to be on your own and enjoy farm life. We certainly did.

It was a fantastic weekend getaway, no TV, just the scenery and the goats on your doorstep. Delicious morning coffee on the porch, and a nice walk on the farm. Fireplace inside against the cold and a nice big braai on the stoep. What more can one ask for. Friendliest people, who immediately made us feel at home! Will definitely go again.

A true getaway from it all! Game that grazes around the cottage. Particular sunrises & sunsets. No other people nearby (there was no one in the red-roofed house on the hill during our stay). The nicest holiday home with more than enough space for everyone. Large porch with game that grazes right up to the house. Marthie and her family are extremely hospitable and we recommend the getaway to anyone. Just 30 min from De Hoop reserve.

We had a great time and enjoyed the tame moose, springbok and Nyalas that just come to eat at the accommodation, it's an experience. Gawie and Marthie are very nice visitors and made us feel at home immediately. The dirt road to the farm was in good condition and we reached the destination without difficulty with a small car and a trailer. Best rooikrans braai wood bought from Marthie so no wood needs to be taken with you. It was something special to go for a walk in the wildlife camp and see all the different wildlife there up close. Feel free to take binoculars with you.

Aloe canyons is a beautiful secluded destination.
Beautiful, peaceful farm. Dogs loved it and were intrigued by the eland and springbok. Very friendly hosts and kitchen was well equipped (but take your own salt and pepper). There is some dirt road (about 15 kilometers) to get to the farm, but manageable in a standard car.
Had a nice overnight stay on the way to Cape Town. Not far from the N2. Very nice to stay among the wildlife in a wildlife camp. Perfect for an overnight stay or a quiet weekend together.
