The reserve is a 10 000-hectare conservancy in the southern Karoo, and home to the big 5 legends of the wilderness; elephant, lion, buffalo, leopard, and rhino.

13 guests' feedbackThe whole experience was wonderful. The price is quite high for a very average class room, especially for South Africans. But I understand they cater more to foreigners. And, if you take into account the delicious food, game drives and costs that it costs them to feed all the animals, you understand the price a little more. It was a lovely weekend and my boy (3) enjoyed it the most.
Staff very friendly and helpful. Accommodation is good. Meals were good but not wow. "Game Drives" doesn't quite live up to expectations.
What a wonderful getaway. The service, food, warm pool, etc. were really amazing. Every safari trip has a different experience, which is great. Thank you for a wonderful stay.
The best experience ever, first time on horseback all I can say is wow wow wow.
We saw all the Big 5, a lovely indoor spa and heated pool/sauna for the rainy day, and absolutely loved the horseback and quadbike game drives. The food was also amazing. Only recommendation would be for a minibar in the rooms.
The service, food and accommodation are top notch.
The game drives make the costs worth it (if you are with a tour guide who is enthusiastic about his work).

Randal, our guide was excellent, and a pleasure to have our guide on both days. The reception staff was friendly but not well-informed about our package. Reception failed to inform us that game drive on the second day was delayed by an hour due to the heavy rain. The reception was also not well informed about our option to choose horseback safari for the second day, they insisted it was an extra R500 p/p. The bedroom was clean but the bathroom was not!

South Africans are put off by the price of accommodation at Aquila, but look out for specials. When you consider what you get for your money it is actually good value for money. Everything is included except your drinks and soft drinks. You have to be there at 12h00 and get welcome drinks and then a buffet lunch, you then book in and have a game drive at 16h30 which is 2 hours 30 minutes with snacks and soft drinks halfway. We saw 4 of the big 5 and lots of other animals too, literally 10-20 meters away from the feed thicket. When you come back there is a buffet dinner. 21h00 there are marshmallows at the bonfire. In the morning it is coffee and biscuits at 6h30 and another 1h30min to 2 hours game drive and morning buffet afterwards. The buffets are huge with lots of delicious options to choose from (also vegan options). There is a spa and a hot and cold indoor swimming pool. And 2 more cold pools outside. There is plenty for the kids to do such as junior rangers to give mum and dad some alone time. They have generators to combat loadshedding and WiFi. Would highly recommend Aquila.
Great experience on game drive and lovely spa.
The hotel is great with very modern rooms and it is clean with customer oriented service. Dinner and the breakfast buffet was good with various types of food. We highly recommend the place for the first safari experience and for those people who don't have time for an extended safari in the outback.
