115 guests' feedbackBenlize Lodge is perfectly located with a nice view of the dam, but does need some attention. Although the tennis court is advertised, it is out of order, and many of the house items were dirty upon our arrival. We did feel it was a bit expensive for what you get, although the host was very helpful.
Very friendly people, no problems.
I was asked if I would move. It's all right. But the little room didn't have a fridge in it, and it was very hot. Shower was clogged and a bit dirty. Please see it. in constructive comments.
Overall, my stay at Benlize Lodge was thoroughly disappointing, and I cannot in good conscience recommend it to others.
Was ok On arrival no power had to move from room. Was inconvenient. No ceiling fan in room was hot and uncomfortable.
Very nice stay. Benny is very hospitable. Beautiful view! Will definitely stay there again and again.
Although a budget room, the room was dirty and the dishes weren't cleaned. There was still coffee from previous guests and hair on the floors. There was no reception, and the guy actually admitted that he didn't check the room.
Our accommodation was not what I booked through you. No facilities for cooking if it rains. Extremely weak!
I recommend anyone to live there, next time we will definitely stay longer. Thank you very much for making everything so comfortable.
On top of mountain looking over Harties Dam.
Will go back anytime.
Benny welcomed us so nicely and thank you for that. We will definitely go back again!
I would definitely recommend this accommodation to anyone. Views for days!
Nothing too tall, it was an amazing place.
An opportunity to recharge and get in touch with nature - which is just what we needed and hoped for. Unexpected surprise that despite the lodge being fully booked it was quiet! I would just suggest a check of the accommodation by management before guests check in as there were a couple of things that hadn't been cleaned properly from the previous guests (a pot that was dirty, the dustbin in the bathroom was not cleaned out, a couple of spiderwebs). All in all -Bennie was a great host.
The location, cleanliness, view, affordability and friendly personal service are why we would love to go again and again. Thank you very much!
We arrived at Benlize lodge and had no trouble with customer service. Was immediately shown to our accommodation. Fire was packed and everything was 100% ready to start a nice weekend. We will definitely go back to Benlize again anytime.
The private lapa with braai place right in front of our door was now a bonus! Very nice place!
Benny and Elize are very very friendly! The place is very neat.
A getaway with the most beautiful view. There is plenty of space to go as a nice big group of friends or family. Ideal for children with the pool, play area and large lawn. The owners are concerned and make a lot of effort. We look forward to going back again!
I was met very warmly by Ben who picked me up at the gate when I took the wrong turn. Beautiful view throughout the day and night from a high location at the accommodation with a wonderful lapa to relax. Ben set me up braai sticks at my accommodation in the braai and even brought me milk for coffee when he heard I hadn't brought any. The lapa room was very well equipped for self-catering accommodation with a full DStv package, a fully equipped kitchen, a neat bathroom with a shower, a laundry room and very safe with two beautiful, loving dogs who look after you in the evenings. If there is to be any negative, it will be load shedding.
The place is secluded, on top of the mountain with good views of Hartbeespoort Dam and Peacanwood Estate. Nice and clean swimming pool plus the benefit of the jacuzzi. Tennis court. Thatch houses. All cutlery is available. The road is not smooth but fine for a normal car. Will go back again.
Everything was perfect! The 2 white Labrador dogs are so friendly and full of love and just want to play. The view over the dam was indescribable! Thank you so much, Lorraine, for the welcome and the light helped a lot through Eskom times. Everything was clean and the bed in Wildevy unit slept so well. The pink bath with hot water and bubble bath in it was wonderful after a day's adventure. I would definitely go back again and I recommend it to anyone who needs a lovely, quiet getaway. I am a walking, disabled person with cerebral palsy and if you are permanently in a wheelchair, only ask for help if necessary to get into the unit, but if you are in the Wildevy unit, everything is wheelchair friendly. There is a bath, only very smooth so just take a suction mat with you for the bottom of the bath and enjoy!
While the place is in a secluded and stress-free environment, the road leading up to the lodge is very dangerous. Owners should advise visitors not to travel at night. You must be a very advanced driver to drive on that road. Should you come across another car driving in the opposite direction, it will be very difficult for both cars to pass. Also, the owners do not answer the phone. We got there and called the owner to open it for us but they never answered the phone. There are also no blankets on the bed, only a very thin and light bedspread. We called the owner to ask for a blanket, even sent a message, but they never replied. The rooms are also not that clean. There are spiderwebs and dust everywhere. However, a big shout out to Lorraine who manages the place. I suggest that her numbers be on the website so she can be contacted for assistance. She is very efficient and very friendly.
The coffee was rock hard and so was the sugar. The shower head did not work well.
The owners and their animals are more than welcoming. The facilities are clean and comfortable.
Will definitely go again. Owners go the extra mile.
Lovely, peaceful lodge. Beautiful location and close to so many amenities.
My husband was extremely impressed!
Beautiful view. Quiet Busveld atmosphere. Friendly, helpful.
Kids enjoyed the pool, free bonfire on the first night, amazing view of the dam, very quiet location, super friendly staff and owners. This place is an absolute gem.
It was the first time I have been there, but I can tell that I’m looking forward to visit again.
Very nice stay. Coral tree had everything I needed. The road up was steep but easily passable. The view from the patio is exceptional.
The road was not good would have been nice if they just told us. We arrived there at night and there were no lights on the road.
I went to Benlize with a group of 12 men. We hired out the lapa and had a fantastic stay. The owner is really welcoming without being overbearing and the staff were great. We were welcomed and shown to our rooms before being left to enjoy our stay. I would recommend the lapa to anyone planning a trip with a group. It was very well stocked with pots, pans, cutlery, crockery, glasses, built in braai, 2 big fridges and a chest deep freeze. The staff came in the morning and cleaned up the whole venue so it was perfect for the second night.
The shower is not suitable at all. The shower head was clogged and sprayed in all 16 wind directions except where it is supposed to. The shower drain was also blocked and the shower consequently overflowed when washing hair before attending a wedding. No mirror in the room, only in the bathroom so one has to sit on the toilet and blow-dry your hair and apply make-up. Bedding is old and faded. view is spectacular. Dustbin in bathroom was not emptied from previous person's stay.
The accommodation was very comfortable, clean and everything you need is provided. Rotshuis has a wonderful view of the pond from the large porch.
It is such a beautiful place. You are private and no one bothers. We had so much fun visiting and resting there. It is peaceful and beautiful.
We had a wonderful weekend in the Rock House. The amazing view and the owners' sweet dogs were the highlights. The pool was lovely and refreshing on a hot day. There is a lot to do in the area which makes it a great getaway from Jhb for a weekend. The cottage is very modern with 2 identical double bedrooms with en-suites and walk-in cupboards. It is very spacious and well stocked with everything you need. Unfortunately we waited for a while to be let into the gate. No one answered the intercom or the phone. We eventually did a WhatsApp call and got through. The biggest negative was the fact that they decided to do work on the roof and install a router on the Saturday whilst we were in the cottage. People banging on the roof and coming in and out of the cottage was very annoying. We never did get a Wi-Fi connection despite that. However, we would return to Benlize in the future.
The small units are nicely furnished, but it's only for overnight stays. Both of the small units we stayed in had bathroom lights that did not work. The one unit does not have a braai area as stated, but other than that there are no complaints. Very still. Nice place with beautiful view. Will definitely stay longer in the future, at one of the larger units.
Very nice and well-equipped stone houses on the mountain with a wide view over the Hartebeespoort Dam and the Magaliesberge. Don't worry if you drive up the steep winding road to Benlize Lodge, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view from the top of the mountain. It is better to drive with a fairly strong car. In the evening, the lights around the pond are very beautiful from the porch and bedroom windows. Look out for birds and enjoy the silence. Nice big and clean pool to share with a limited number of other visitors (if the lapa and pool are not already booked in advance). The tennis court is usable, but the surface is quite neglected. We walked down the mountain road outside the entrance gate and back up steeply for good exercise. TV with a wide variety of channels is available. Mosquitoes are especially troublesome in the upper bedroom and walking on the wooden floor of the upper bedroom in Koraalboom bothers those who sleep in the lower bedroom (those who go to bed the earliest must sleep upstairs). Electricity was out for 3 hours during our stay. Candles and matches will come in handy, as there is only one gas lamp but also a gas burner. Mosquito nets in the upstairs bedroom would be very welcome as the fan doesn't work when the power is off and the mosquito nets don't help much.
It's a very peaceful environment. The location is perfect. It is a bit on the expensive side, but it was very nice and I will definitely want to go back again in the future. Very friendly owners too.
It's a beautiful place, rooms big enough, if you have what you need.
Had a lovely visit, safe area for our puppies. Great atmosphere and friendly hosts. Would love to go back again.
We got the best rest ever, very friendly people and very hospitable. I would recommend anyone looking for peace and quiet to go there. As a massive bonus, you get another lovely view too! We will definitely visit again, thank you Benny and all the staff for great service!
We as a family really enjoyed it even though there were power problems. It was delicious.
Love that it's out of the city but close to a lot.
It was nice to stay in the house. Will definitely go again! The house is spacious and comfortable.
Voorwaar voortreflik! Van die gepakte vuur, verskafde koffie, handdoeke, akkommoderend vir honde! Great!
We thoroughly enjoyed the weekend as well as owner's dogs, Hunter, Bella, Lilly.
Benlize is perfectly placed for attending receptions in the Harties area. The apartments/rooms are well appointed and everything is better than the website or photos tell! For example, it has an incredible view of the dam. Excellent firewood is available - just remember your own matches or lighter.
Loved Benlize Lodge and highly recommended.
Very nice place to stay, even for larger groups of people. Will book here again anytime. Safe, quiet and very centrally located.
We slept 2 nights in the Waenhuis. It was clean, tidy and well equipped. Bennie and Elize came twice personally to see if everything was ok and immediately made a plan to help us when we needed something. The view over Hartebeespoort Dam is unbeatable and the stone buildings are something special. We were even provided with wood to grill meat with. The path up the mountain was quite unexpectedly steep, but there were other guests with ordinary sedans and it was not at all unreachable. The entire property is fenced and very secure. We would easily go there again.
Was a great position and view of the dam was amazing, the room was great for a person on short travel trip had all the facilities we needed. The primary requirement for the business trip was the Wi-Fi and throughout our stay there, this did not exists, repeated request to the establishment did not get anything sorted out and we lost out on the ability to stay connected while out the office. Please remove Wi-Fi as a feature, so other don't get caught, as we were. Otherwise it was a great place to stay.
Wonderful maintenance of chalet and premises. Braai facilities fantastic. The view on both sides (dam, and mountain/valley) is breathtaking. Very easy arrangements and host makes sure of absolute privacy. I would have appreciated a fan in the upstairs room though. Also excellent!
The only suggestions we want to offer are first to upgrade the mattress in the master bedroom, second, at least put a fan in the second bedroom for the steamy summer nights, and last, put additional lighting in the second bedroom ─ even a bedlamp would be helpful.
The ideal place to just relax. A small shop on site with the most necessary items would be good.
Owners are grown-ups, therefore, cleaners must up their game to assist them.
The accommodation is very well located and was very quiet and very tidy. Received a friendly reception. Thank you very much for the nice stay.
We had a wonderful weekend, the view is incredibly beautiful and the tranquility enveloped us.
Would go back again anytime, it was an experience I'll still remember for a long time!
We attended a wedding and just stayed over for the night. Very neat. Will stay longer next time.
The road to Benlize needs a lot of attention, the road is very bad and we drove very hard with our VW Polo.
Wi-Fi was not working, DStv was not working.
We had a nice time. Everything was there that we needed. Had a bit of a head scratch with the directions after that. Owners friendly and helpful. If you want to get away from city this is the place.
I would really recommend this place to anyone looking for a wonderful place to stay. The place is very beautiful with the most amazing views. The cottages are really spacious and very comfortable. Service is wonderful and we would definitely come back again.
Our stay was very nice. Raasblaar is very neat and big with lots of space. We could relax and enjoy our time away. The view over the dam is also very beautiful! We will definitely come again in the future.
Beautiful for farm setting, lovely views, private, own well equipped lapa.
The name of the chalet in which we slept is Die Waenhuis. I would really recommend installing an air conditioner or at least a fan. It was hot and humid. We were unable to open the windows due to all the insects. The mosquitoes kept us awake all night. There was also no one to receive us on arrival and the worker who came across us, did not know where we were supposed to stay. She had to call the owner first to get the right information. I asked if they could supply us with a fan. They did, but only the next morning. A little too late.
Though it was only for one night, I truly enjoyed my stay at Benlize lodge. The view of Hartbeespoort lake is breathtaking, the room was clean and very comfortable. I slept very soundly and felt safe. Thank you for an amazing stay!
See stars.
Bennie received us well, the unit is very well located and we had a good stay.
Received regular communications from Benlize Lodge. Booking was easy and worry free. The natural beauty made up for the unpleasant dirt road that had to be driven to the destination. Friendly service and everything was clean and tidy. Thank you very much, we really enjoyed the sleepover.
Thanks for having us, wish to come back soon. We had an amazing time.
Wonderfully magnificent. Had a blast!
Benlize Lodge was the perfect getaway for us for the weekend. Would like to stay longer. We also enjoyed area's tourism.
I don't care about animals, but the owner must realize that you have your own animals there and there must be limits. Apparently he locked dogs in tennis court, but then tennis court is completely destroyed and has no wires on one side, the dogs were around us all the time, on our bed and when we put our dog food down they eat it which made my dogs want to fight with they. They also jump on a human which also makes my dog think I am being attacked and then attack the dog himself, we ended up locking ourselves in room with dogs. We were very well informed that we share DStv and when the neighbor changes channels, switches off and on, and children watch TV at 3 o'clock in the morning, our channel is hard or soft depending on how they set it. So here we sit in the room, because we can't take dogs out, because the two golden retrievers jump on us all the time and to avoid a fight we stay in the room all night without DStv. Nice SMS was sent to us to say "Sorry you share DStv with neighbor" Really we share? No, Mrs Owner, we don't actually share, we don't have any at all, because if we shared we would have our turn to watch what we wanted to watch, even sound was in their control! It's a false advertisement in my opinion. It's a nice place, but please, you have to have what you promise and that's it.
We had a great stay at Benlize Lodge! The unit was well equipped, the rooms were tidy and spacious. Fire wood was supplied for our 1st night indoors and outdoors. Very peaceful with a beautiful view. The owners made us feel right at home. Thank you for a memorable weekend!
I would recommend the lodge to anyone, just the area before you get to the lodge is a bit dangerous.
Benlize Lodge is definitely a place we will go back to. Apart from there being a problem and no hot water in our unit, the owner went out of his way to help and we were able to shower in another unit has. Would only recommend a bowl, a braai tong and a grater in the self-catering places. Thanks for the coffee, wood and fire lighters, our weekend was wonderful! Definitely value for money and stunningly beautiful! Thanks again for Uncle Bennie's hospitality!
A very beautiful and relaxing environment.
Very clean and neat. Fully equipped. Quiet atmosphere with breathtaking views. Would highly recommend it.
I enjoyed every minute of my stay, friendly staff, I am definitely going back there soon.
The owners very hospitable.
I will definitely recommend Benlize to anyone that seeks a breakaway from the city life. Absolutely beautiful scenery. The owners were very friendly and the accommodation was clean and neat. We received much more than what we expected. Pity that we only stayed for one night. The gravel road to the venue was a bit shaky but worth the effort. Absolutely a little gem!
Thank you very much for a lovely stay. The house was very nice, clean, modernly furnished and the view of the pond from the porch is very nice. Very peaceful and owners are very hospitable. Every day wood was provided free of charge for barbecuing and making a fire. Great was my surprise when we were even provided with coffee, tea and milk. We will definitely go there again. Just a suggestion to perhaps update the photos on the website, some of the photos provide older versions of how beautiful the house is now inside (Koraalboom).
Lovely stay with a very hospitable owner who goes out of his way to make your stay enjoyable.
I would recommend placing a mirror in the bedroom near a plug and table in the bathroom for bathing etc. as well as a braai in Wildevy.
The view was undoubtedly breathtaking, welcome welcome and very comfortable stay with everything one needs, definitely recommendable and we will definitely use the establishment again soon!! Thanks to Bennie for his hospitality, Benlize Lodge above!
It was clean safe and well looked after. The property is stunning.
Benlize lodge was very pleasant, the surroundings were breathtaking and very conveniently located. We had a wonderful time, in the evening with sunset it was fairytale beautiful.
Spacious units, very well equipped. Gas implements for a back up in case of rain. Manager checked up regularly. Undercover parking. Enclosed lapa with built in braai, stocked with wood every day. Large swimming pool (swimming with 2 beautiful resident dogs an optional extra- great fun). View of the dam cannot be improved! Loved every minute of our stay. Definitely going back.
Thank you very much, Uncle Bennie, for the great service, lovely stay and uncle's friendly dogs. We had so much fun, enjoyed the dogs, played tennis, enjoyed the pool and lapa. Benlize is a beautiful place located in the natural beauty of Harties!
From my phone conversation beforehand with Benny to our last meeting at the gate was a unique experience. What a beautiful place with a wonderful view. We stayed with our children and grandchildren in Raasblaar and nothing was missing in the chalet. Already decided to stay longer next time.
Thank you Bennie for your hospitality. We enjoyed it a lot.
Friendly reception, neat and clean facilities and a very nice view of the dam from the height greeted us on our arrival. We are definitely going to spend a weekend break here.
We will definitely recommend Benlize Lodge to anyone. The house has everything and more that you need. Benlize Lodge's house is neat, convenient and spacious. The view is gorgeous. So we will definitely visit Benlize Lodge again.
Our stay at Benlize Lodge was lovely. It was so much more than we expected. It's a lovely place, neat and well equipped with everything you could need. Bennie was very hospitable and put in great effort so personally make sure we were okay and comfortable. We will definitely go back again to visit.
We received a very welcoming reception, the lodge is quiet and very well maintained. I will definitely stay there in future.
Unbelievable! Had a warm welcome, beautiful stay. Breathtaking view of the dam and it is safe. Lovely visit and barbecue on the stoep, very tidy and indeed a place we will visit again. Thank you Benny for your hospitality.
It's a beautiful view and very nice and peaceful place to stay. I will recommend Benlize Lodge to anyone that wants to break away from the city.
The accommodation is clean and equipped with the necessary.
Very nice view and quiet.
Friendly service, very neat, good value for money, will be back any day.
The view is breathtaking and my children really enjoyed it! Will definitely go again.
My daughter and I decided on the spur of the moment to break away. At Benlize Lodge we had a lovely, peaceful break where we could relax, swim, visit, rest, barbecue and sleep without any disturbance. It was the best holiday in years and we look forward to going again with friends and family.
Most beautiful chalets, with everything you need. The ideal place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Here you can recharge your batteries and soak up the tranquility. Benny is the perfect host. Nothing is too much trouble for him. I hope your Lodge only grows stronger and stronger. We will definitely come again. Thanks for this gem of a place.
Very comfortable and a place where one can forget about the city.
See stars.
We had a good reception, very hospitable, will definitely stay here again.
