48 guests' feedbackThe facilities offered are nothing luxurious, but we were warmly received and the lodge is recommended for a weekend getaway. All cutlery and bedding were sufficient. The dams were full, and unfortunately, we caught no fish because we used the wrong bait. We enjoyed the weekend, and it's all we needed for a quiet and peaceful weekend. Thank you very much, and we will definitely come again.
Very nice relaxing and rustic destination. We spent our time fishing, braaing by a nice campfire and spending time in nature.

Photo's on the website must have been taken a very long time ago.
Unfortunately we could only sleep over the Sunday night. They broke into my residence on Sunday night and we had to return in a hurry on Monday. I arranged with Bernally to come and use the remaining days and 2 nights later in the year. He agreed. I will let you know in advance when. Thank you for your professional service.
I am coming from the city, where there are taxis, buses and lot of noise. So staying at a farm was like a dream come true.
Excellent place to go fishing and not expensive. Would visit again, can be upgraded a bit and a microwave would be helpful.
When we arrived I had to call 3 times to be let in at the gate. The road was full of mud after the rain, and my vehicle almost got stuck. The road is not maintained. I paid for wood to make a fire, which was promised to be delivered, which never happened. The furniture was neglected, light bulbs were not working, gas was finished after one kettle of water had been boiled. The pond was not completely accessible for fishing as there were dead trees and logs preventing casting. The decks that had been installed to walk on were battered, no planks left. So, my humble opinion is that real attention should be paid to all the facets of the resort. I will definitely not be camping there again.
The bed and pillows are very old and uncomfortable. If the bed doesn't keep you awake, the mozzies will.
If you want to stay 5 star, no. This is a fishing/woodland experience and should definitely stay that way. The decor/beds may need a bit of refurbishment.
Nice to walk up to the ponds and enjoy a glass of champagne and be calm.
Only wished one could make a plan with the flies. It was sometimes unbearable. Know it's nobody's fault, but that was our only problem.
Great place for a weekend to get away! The owner was very helpful and helped us nicely. It's very beautiful and quiet. Two ponds had water and hiking trails are very cute. We camped and had everything needed.
The accommodation was neat and clean, but for fishing purposes I would definitely not recommend the place. The ponds are all empty. There was only 1 with water and it was so shallow you could see the mud in there. There was also someone there who said that these ponds had dried up 4 years ago. The place is very neglected. Standing places next to the dam that do have water were neat and clean.
I sent this email last week: Afternoon Claudette. Apologies for not seeing this email. I really am in 2 minds on how to rate the accommodation. I was very annoyed when I arrived at 14:15 and Bernard didn’t know I was coming, didn’t know how long I was staying, and wasn’t there to let us in. I called him, he asked that we keep ourselves busy for about an hour or 2 so they can clean the Accomodation We had the dog in the car which made finding a place slightly challenging but we went for lunch. He called saying we could come back, he sat in his car and made me use the bonnet of his Bakkie to sign the forms and get the keys. It was a different cabin to the one explained. That’s not such an issue. But the filthy state the Accomodation was in was really disgusting. We had to disinfect the entire cabin. The toilet seat was broken and splintered. The shower didn’t provide enough water to shower properly. The rock pool was not private as discussed. In fact our cabin was between the main house and farm worker Accomodation meaning everyone walking past viewed us. The pool also hadn’t been cleaned and was very slimy etc I know we didn’t pay a lot of money for Accomodation but honestly the website and advertising is purely misleading. The place is run down and needs work. And the owner needs to really up his game with guests. Thanks Claudette Sam Sent from my iPhone On 10 Dec 2018, at 10:00, LekkeSlaap <[email protected]> wrote:
Although very basic, it was clean and safe with guards walking around. Little things are missing like glasses and the cabin is quite hot so a fan will be handy, but otherwise I would love to go back, especially if the dam is full.
Incredible quiet and beautiful area, campsites are right on the dam wall. Could take my dog and it was so nice to be able to walk around with her on the farm. The owner also gave me a free upgrade to another house because other campers only arrived 2 days later. Thank you very much!
The area and accommodation was nice and tranquil. Just one negative is the the pillows is a little soft and it spoiled our sleep, but other wise no complaints.
You get what you paid for but cleanliness can be improved on.
It was nice to be able to have a new experience with the wooden house. It's really just the basic stuff. Not for people who are used to luxury goods. Wooden houses just need a little attention from the owner. Will go back again anytime.
Had a good time, quiet, safe and very relaxed.
Lovely, clean and neat place!
Amazing experience, recommend it to anyone.

It's quiet and the fireplace was lovely. I would recommend it to anyone.
Neat room with nice fireplace. Perfect for a one night break. The fish in the dam are somewhat shy.
From our arrival and meeting Bernard it was a hospitable experience and so very beautiful! Will definitely return and stay for longer.
Self catering facility without an oven or a microwave? Not glass wine glasses in all the chalets. Couldn't sleep Friday nite because of being cold. Duvet covers very thin and only one extra very thin blanket for each bed. That was ridiculous. The faciities were very clean and very neat, but I don't think this failities can be marketed as a lodge. The facilities are equiped with really only the bare necessities.
A very nice cosy spot, nothing flashy but convenient and easy to use.
Excellent value for money. Beautiful and tranquil environment. The cottage was clean, secluded and more than we anticipated. Will definitely visit Bernallys Fishing Lodge again!
What I really enjoyed was the fact that they were so helpful. The place is small, neat, nothing fancy, but just what a couple wants to ensure a relaxing time. There are wonderful walking trails, fishing opportunity, and would love to go back.
We were not informed that the fishing spots were just about empty. The doors to the main bedroom did not close as it should. Globes for lighting were missing. The fridge was not operational. The plug sockets in the one guest room was not working. The bread toaster was not working. The mens toilette's are very cramped. There are dangerous steel poles protruding out of the ground at the back door which can cause serious harm to people and the road leading up to Bernallys from the tar road is atrocious.
Very nice location with excellent fishing facilities.
Although the big pond was empty we were able to cast rods into the smaller ponds with plenty of bites. Thank you Bernard for waiting for us. Your hospitality and kindness is greatly appreciated. We will come again.
Our experience was terrible. We did not get the chalet we originally booked and were put in a unit that was extremely run-down, old and dirty. It is not even a chalet that's being advertised. We didn't even stay the night, we ended up going home.
Nice getaway place. Equipped with the necessary accessories and camping-friendly!
The place is lovely the fishing area is beautiful at sunset. Very relaxing, would have preferred to change the accommodation though to the newer chalets. Will do that next time round. Overall happy with the service.
We had a relaxing weekend at Bernally's. Beautiful property with great spots for a braai and big willow trees to lie under and forget about the city! Pity about the main dam being empty. We will definitely be back once it's full again! We had a great weekend, thanks!
Despite the rain we had a lovely stay. The cabin was spacious and the people were hospitable.
We had an amazing time, it was peaceful and quiet, we loved the house. For us it was a perfect getaway. Thank you so much.
Bernard was a great host. He was helpful and friendly. I got cold in the fisherman's cottage because it is poorly insulated, but he quickly came to the rescue. The barbecue outside was dirty and smelled of old fish which was not good, that and the cold was all that bothered me. Furthermore, I will go there again for a visit.
Good and quiet getaway.
Well I arrived with my partner and was greeted by the owner. He said since we are the only campers for the next 2 nights he would rather put us up in a chalet at the same price as camping. And I must say the cottage was great. It had a nice fireplace, bathroom was nice and kitchen. All in all it was really nice, the main dam is very low but the other 3 smaller dams were full and the fishing was awesome. So all i have to say to Bernard the owner thank you for the super service and a great weekend!
This resort is really neglected the pics on the website are really misleading. The units are not well equipped and not up to standard. But the place was clean and neat and hot water was available. The dams in the pics don't exist anymore, it's just little puddles of water, not satisfying at all. I don't recommend this place. What a disappointement.
Got there early at 10 am as arranged, went in and announced our arrival and were told by a guy that he would let us in at the gate to follow him down. And so we waited about 10 minutes only to see him climb into a vehicle and drive away without us. We eventually were told by another guest that the gate was unlocked so we let ourselves in and drove down to where we thought the cabins might be. After about another hour or so we eventually settled down into a cabin. Shortly thereafter the guy smashed into a tree about 4 meters away from our car so we quickly moved our vehicle into safety. What a waste of time, no fish biting in the "big dam" the entire time, apparently this dam was completely dried up not so long ago and the only thing in the dam was thousands of tadpoles and birds. The other dams were ponds, one cast with our fly fishing rod and you're on the other side. For the serious fisherman, don't waste your time here! The pictures on the site are not recent and no longer paint a true picture of this place and we have taken several just in case you would like to see. Broken pathways and muddy paths. Good for spending time with the kids/grandkids, canoeing and birdwatching or canned fishing in the ponds/small streams, ablutions were clean and cabins ok. First and last time to this place. Please update to recent pictures and please inform people that the main dam suffered a severe catastrophe in the drought period and was completely emptied out! Thus not letting people believe that you cast far into the dam and catch big fish.
I don't think the place is worth the money I paid, the owner/host was clearly wet and reeked of booze when we got there just after 4pm. Luckily I called him in the morning and he didn't even know about our discussion then. We were put in the Kingfisher Chalet and not the Giant Heron as booked, probably not a problem except that my teenage daughter and son had to share a double bed. Amenities are primitive, but at least there was hot water and the bedding looked clean. I think it should be mentioned that the farm borders an informal settlement with many people moving around against the boundary wire, it makes you restless once the sun has gone down.
Not a pleasant stay - started off unpleasant but facilities are good.
