Wonderful view, but a little too "old school" for our liking.
I was received very kindly and got a nice full breakfast every day. Everything just the way I like it. The guest house itself is also a historical building, and I love the beautiful antique furniture, as I am an antique furniture lover myself. Many thanks to and's daughter. I had a great stay and would love to stay again.
Wasn't what I expected.
No, it sounds like the wood floor will cave in when you walk.
Place is dirty, bedding not up to standard and toilet facilities dirty. Place should be demolished.
We enjoyed staying there, their service is great, breakfast is good and owner and workers are very friendly.
It was the most horrible place I have ever stayed. It was dirty, the bedding was shaved, towels were stained and didn't look clean at all. The shower was a total hoot, dirty I think it hadn't been cleaned in years. It felt like people were biting in the room! I won't even put food on the stove for my dog. I'd rather stay silent about the kitchen sink, it's something to get sick of! There were not enough glasses for all the guests. The coffee that was in the container must have been in there for years. Pictures that are on the web paint are really deceiving! I didn't even dare to sit on the couch. The beds felt like you were sleeping around the "bosses". The material was broken and he stank. Never again in my life. The pool behind was green.
The location was beautiful and although we parked on the street the car was safe. There was everything that was needed and the bed slept great.
Since we arrived at 10pm on Friday night, and were kindly welcomed by the owner and personally taken to the room. All the nearby facilities were pointed out to us and the breakfast was excellent.

Slept, ate, walked, visited and stared at the bay's sea and mountains, from the upper floor's sitting area on the stoep.
The linen was the only thing that was clean, but old and very thin. Carpets, walls, plugs, fans, light fittings were packed solid with dirt. The couch is filthy and smelly, we made very sure we were out of the apartment for the whole time we were there. Tried to get alternate accommodation but the cost would have been super high, so we were forced to stay. The owner has zero interest in this place. Shower tied up with a rusted wire and the angle of the bathroom is at such a slant one expects to fall through. Terrible experience.
The room's bins have not been cleaned from the previous visitors, lights that don't work, electrical plugs' covers are broken and wires are visible right next to the bed (fire hazard). Room is for 5 people but there is only seating for 3 and also 2 bar stools but they are neglected and sitting surface is cut with sponge which is gone. There was no toilet paper. The bathroom floor is not level and since it is on the 2nd floor, it feels unsafe to go in there. Toilet is not attached to the floor and stands on wooden blocks, my 7 year old almost fell off because the toilet squeaked. The shower is attached to the roof with wire and is also not level. The TV is in the bedroom and all the people have to sit on the bed if they want to watch. The company of the people who are in the dining room (TV room) and office on the 1st floor and the TV is clearly heard in the rooms. The advertisement says secure parking, but the parking is in the street opposite the guest house. It was a disappointment and we will definitely not book there again.
The Lodge has a homely feeling like when you visit your grandparents, comforting.
It is a great place but it can be better if been upgraded. I visited there 15 years last and it was good. 15 years later it still the same utilities been used which you can see that it aged. Nothing seems to be upgraded or renewed. Furthermore it's been a great stay.
Reception was friendly and room was relatively clean. Unfortunately, this is all the positive comments I can make. Furniture is old and shabby, bed linen has been washed and overused way too many times, chair cushions are torn and have holes, fan is thick with dust and rust, etc. The photos on the website are very misleading. The room and furniture look like they were maintained 10 years ago. Definitely will not use again.
We were well received. The only place where I was helped to get my luggage into the room! Very quiet and peaceful.

We stayed at the place about 10 - 12 years ago and found it quite "homely" then, so we booked again for an overnight stay. Unfortunately, the place is almost the same as it was more than 10 years ago, which means it's really dilapidated and not very clean either. The hospitality was not that great either and we think the owners should retire as it does not look as though their hearts are in it anymore. While we were there, other guests checked out early and demanded their money back because of the poor accommodation - that should tell you everything.

The characterful accommodation met all our expectations. The hospitality with which we were received is appreciated. The breakfast was delicious.
Very neat, old building. Very well located, close to point and restaurants. However, parking is in front of the building on the street. The restaurants in the area were very noisy during sleep time. However, the view of the ocean is very beautiful.
Blue Whale Lodge is very centrally located in Mossel Bay but the street is quiet. Their accommodation is comfortable and tidy, with everything we needed. The host was also very friendly.
Als was good, but Abelone room for 3 adults is too small, as well as the shower and bathroom very small.

I fell in love with the Blue Whale Lodge the minute we walked in. It's like stepping back into the 1800's with the blue antique furniture and pictures on the wall. The lodge has a very rich history and oom Renier told us all about. I would definitely go back and make that my home away from home. Oom Renier and tannie Mariki are very pleasant and friendly. They made us feel very welcomed and at home. The kitchen staff is very friendly as well and very accommodating. We live the Blue Whale Lodge and we will recommend it to anyone.

It was our second time at the lodge and in the two years, however, no changes have been made that could add value. The place is very centrally located and is really affordable, but from a personal point of view things that don't work well like the blinds or wall plugs that don't fit well can be improved. For guests with children, the pool may also have been a problem.

Very friendly and helpful owners. Breakfast was delicious with a variety to choose from. Every day there were clean bed linen and towels. If you make Mossel Bay your main destination and drive out to other towns every day and are just looking for a place to sleep, Blue Whale Lodge is the right place to stay.

Our stay at the Blue Whale lodge was very comfortable and had an atmosphere of a home away from home. The service we were given was hospitable and friendly. As far as value for money is concerned I must say Blue Whale is brilliant. We got an amazing breakfast and greeting every morning and any of our other needs (braaing etc) were met with a smile.
I had a wonderful stay there despite a few mistakes but I informed the owner about it. Small bugs that can be fixed but other than that I have no complaints and would stay there again anytime.
The stay was very nice in a historic house. The owner and spouse are very helpful and friendly. Blue Whale Lodge is very centrally located and we were close to almost any need we might have. I would recommend the accommodation to anyone.
