There are three rooms, two bedrooms with queen size beds and another large room with the kitchen/dining/lounge area and two single beds. The owner Kitty Schneider was a jewellery artist whose quirky sense of decor made the cottage something unusual and unique. Hand-made steps with pieces of broken plates and mirrors at the entrance, the shower floor made from pebbles collected at the beach and the hand-forged burglar bars in the shapes of birds, fishes, cats and flowers, are some of the examples of attention to detail I have used to create this space. The cottage is also spacious, simple and uncluttered.
There are 2 dogs and 3 cats on the property, so pets are only allowed with prior arrangements. There is plenty of space in the garden for children to run around. There is free WIFI too. I do also make very delicious dinners for guests with prior arrangements. Cereals/tea and coffee are included in the accommodation price.

7 guests' feedbackI stayed for one night on my way from the Eastern Cape to Johannesburg. The place had everything one needed. Interesting and artistic decor.
Artistic feeling, fully equipped (even tea, coffee, milk and breakfast cereals!) and friendly service.
The hostess, Kitty, tried her best to make us feel as at home as possible. Tips for her is that the concrete flat roof above the master bedroom leaked slightly in two places during the constant rain the night we were there. It would also be a great improvement if a partition was installed around the shower, because the entire bathroom floor currently splashes wet when it is used.
Lovely accommodation on a large property in the quiet side of Smithfield. It was like a treasure hunt for my 4 year old son to play there. Had a wonderful rest. Kitty from Bluegum Cottage was incredibly hospitable and the cottage was very cozy and well equipped. Kitty also made us the most incredible lamb stew for dinner, which we thoroughly enjoyed. Thank you very much Kitty for your hospitality. Will definitely come again.
The cottage is clean and neat. It is well equipped. Parking is secure behind a gate. The hostess is nice and helpful.
Very well equipped for single couple or family with children over 16. 2 beds are in the kitchen, so if you have a 2 year old who needs to be in bed by 8 pm, she has to sleep upstairs where the stairs are a challenge. Otherwise you cannot use the kitchen. Also, the shower doesn't have shower doors, so the whole floor was wet after I showered. It looks nice, but it wasn't practical for us. The garden is also not well maintained, so one would rather just stay inside the house. I would recommend air conditioning. Very hot in the evening. The fans were not sufficient for me.
Upstairs bedroom, which looked very nice, was not able to be utilized as we are all in our 60's and the stairs are very steep and narrow and there is no bathroom up there. This meant that 2 of us had to sleep on the single beds - in the kitchen! No curtain on one of the large windows in the kitchen.
