The service is excellent. The food was delicious. No effort was too much. I would definitely recommend the place. It is not far from the N1 and yet you have the tranquility of a farm. The room was changed so we didn't have to climb stairs. A fridge in the room would be a very nice addition.
After a day's driving it is an oasis to relax there. With the animals around you and delicious meals, we enjoyed it.
Friendly service, good food and peaceful atmosphere. We appreciated the beautiful Karoon night as well as the animals that came to say hello.
Chargo Lodge offers a 7-star experience on a beautiful Karoo farm just off the N1 outside Colesberg. Excellent accommodation, carefully prepared and tasty dinner and breakfast. The owners themselves are involved in the guest house and are excellent hosts. Prior communication was very good and reception warm and sincere. I will definitely stay here again and again. Ancient fan in room had two speeds - full blast or off. Aircon should be standard. Poly cotton sheets - good cotton should be standard. No mosquito net or anti-mosquito spray provided Bathroom (shower only) in our room was very small with no place to put toiletry bag. Garden furniture in shade for the garden would be nice. Dinner was excellent but breakfast was ordinary.
Our experience was very good from a beautiful historic house. Service was exceptionally good. There is no air conditioning in the room, which will certainly be needed in the middle of summer.
Loved the hosts. But rooms were not boutique level. No bed side lamps, only one fan in one room, no dustbins, no bar fridge so milk stayed out over night, bathroom windows and bedroom windows didn't open. Bath tub badly stained and water didn't come out. Not en-suite so don't prove as if it is en-suite. Dinner was good but not 5 star and breakfast we left too early for so we got cold toasted sandwiches and no beverage.
I really expected more from a Boutique Game Lodge. The rooms are clean but sparse. I expected more for the price of R1350.
The staff is very friendly and hospitable. We really enjoyed the game drive. Dinner and breakfast were very nice. However, the bathrooms are very inconvenient, especially the bath needs attention. There are no bar fridges in the rooms nor air conditioning, which is to be recommended.
Really nice. Food is excellent and ladies that work there are very helpful and amazing. I would say they need a small fridge in the room with water as this was an issue that there was no cold water to drink or any place to put something into a fridge to keep cool. Noise factor is an issue with rooms having interleading doors so small children crying etc can easily be heard.

Charles and Megan are simply wonderful hosts! The warmth and hospitality with which we were received at Chargo made us feel more like long lost family members, returning home after a long time, than the unknown travelers we actually were. In this beautiful place, rich in history, we indulged in hearty food prepared with so much care. We slept wonderfully in the silence of the Karoo and we gazed at the wildlife that is cared for and preserved here with obvious love. Chargo is a special place with special people.
The staff are excellent. A great place to stop over on the way back to Gauteng from the coast.
We spent the night here on our way back from George to Gauteng. The farm, Vanwyksfontein, is well located - off the N1 just outside Colesberg, and a 15 minute drive to Gariep. The lodge is beautiful, with hardwood floors, antique furniture and a history that stretches back to the early 1800s. Hanrie and the staff were so friendly and helpful and served delicious food! It was a perfect way to end the year!
Handrie and her team made us feel very at home and special.
