We used it as a place to sleep. To that end, it met all our expectations. The accommodation is good but not 'wow'. I guess I wouldn't recommend it as a long term option though.

It was all tidy and there is everything you need. I would recommend it for just a quick stopover. Check-in time is from 14:00 to 22:00, but in the middle of the night I was woken up by a guest checking in. The roof plate on no. 5's roof is loose and has been banging all night. I slept so little. Maybe they should get new pillows because the ones there are as hard as a brick. Would only recommend for an emergency overnight stop.

The stay was fine for an overnight stay. However, I think the name needs to change. There is no coffee shop, so it is false advertising, and the chalets are really just rooms.
Just could not sleep nicely because of insects and flies inside the house. Otherwise everything was OK. Need to fill the gap between the wall and false ceiling from where flies/insects jump in.
It was comfortable, but our aircon did not work. We chose this venue for the aircon amongst other reasons. But apart from that it was good. Unfortunately, other guests with screaming children left unattended was not great.
It was average. We shared the room with cockroaches on the floor and walking on our bed. Lots of midges in the room when the light is on. Perhaps leave a doom.
Photos do not tell the story. If I compare the other place we stayed in, this is not accepatable. cutlery in the draw comes from about 5 different sets. linen on the bed must be about 50 years old. very thin. There is no COFFEE shop as the name indicates.

Terribly disappointing experience. The owner of De Lance was terribly unfit from the start! We moved from Pretoria to Cape Town and booked the place to rest halfway. We were 1 hour early to take occupancy of the unit - we only asked to park in the parking lot to get our dogs out of the car and we were more than willing to wait an hour. The owner didn't even say hello, just kept shouting through her palisade, you know the rules. I explained that we only wanted to park for a while but she kept spouting snide remarks and insults. Was in no way welcoming or willing to help us. We stopped booking other accommodation in Colesberg - we didn't see a chance to spend our evening there. She made us feel at home and I do not recommend De Lance to anyone at all. They advertise coffee shop and bar? Not that we could notice! Rather cubicle with palisade and storage space for extra stuff!

Comfortable and clean, slightly cramped for adults. Kitchen is limited. No stove, fridge very very small, can't take a pack of ice. There are braai facilities, but when it rains, as it rained, there is nowhere to go. There aren't actually kitchen facilities for barbecuing. There is no counter to prepare food, only a small table with cutlery, plates and glasses. A more complete roof over the braai and a place to sit would help a lot. No saucepans, but an electric frying pan. There is no grass to sit on, or anywhere to walk. There is an air conditioner and ceiling fan, but it struggles to keep the room cool. For value for money it's good for sure, but I'd rather pay a bit more for comfort. There is no coffee shop, or it was closed when we arrived at 4pm.
It is advertised as a coffee shop but there is no coffee shop. The duvet covers were not the cleanest.

I would like more privacy. Need to draw the curtains. Chalets are in a row. If you are in the middle everyone walks past and there are no lace curtains or blinds. Bed is right in front of the window.
Plek's bathroom faucets did not work at all, the shower head was not clean at all and the pressure was low. Was a disappointment for me and my parents. The pictures were also not at all consistent with what we got to sleep over.

This was my second time at De Lance. The first time I was very young and with my parents. They also really liked the place at that time. De Lance really helped me and my husband rest before our long journey back home. It was clean, tidy and had all the amenities we would need for the night there. Will definitely recommend.

Before we could even unload our luggage, the lady was there to get the outstanding amount, had to ask how the TV was working.
Everything was perfect, Harriet contacted me the day we were due to check in, told us to travel safely which tells me they care. She also shared a "location" that we could easily get there on the GPS. Greeted kindly upon our arrival, she even informed us of the load shedding times that would be there during our visit. The room was clean and just as it was in the photo, everything you need as a family was there. Fridge, air conditioner, braai pan, coffee, glasses, plates and cutlery. It is perfectly located very close to the Gariep Dam with the necessary shops just around the corner from them. Thank you for your excellent service, we could have had a nice quiet evening before hitting the road again.

The Hostess is friendly, but it doesn't make up for the horrible location, semi-clean and cramped room. Your front door stares into the backyard of the home the owner lives in which is littered with scrap yard steel. Would not recommend De Lance Chalet!
The reception was very friendly, the beds are comfortable, the linen is beautiful and the kitchen is equipped with a microwave, kettle and basic necessities. Our daughters were able to sit outside and gaze at the beautiful stars. The parking is secure and it is conveniently located close to the N1.

We were received friendly and hospitable. The rooms are very nice clean, tidy and spacious, would even be ok for more than one night but we were only there one night. For me, the shower, toilet and fridge are always the first things I check to see if they are clean and believe me they were beautifully clean. The air conditioner and roof fan work 100%, thank goodness for that because it was a hot day and night. Beds slept well and bedding was clean and tidy. I think they do a great job overall and I would definitely stay with them again.

Our choice for overnight stay after a long drive was disappointing. Bathroom terribly small and cramped, getting into the shower with difficulty and then you have to step carefully or you slide in and out! And if you're a little big, you can forget about fitting into a small shower door!

Just a pity the gate doesn't open with a remote control. I would recommend it for young people anytime, but be careful for older people, especially if they have to walk with a buggy or other aids, because one of the steps is high and the walking surface from the vehicle to the unit is very uneven. The step into the shower is also high. I didn't find any information about the coffee shop - don't know if it was open.

Gariep was a pleasant overnight alternative to Colesberg, on the way to or back from the Cape. Feel free to visit this village.

Our long journey back from the Cape came to a welcome stop at De Lance Chalet & Coffee Shop. In the December heat, the air conditioner was a welcome relief. Well priced, fully equipped to put together a quick dinner/breakfast, but we took advantage of Tjailatyd - just around the corner. Thank you very much, Harriet and Gerhard.
De Lance is a nice place to spend the night. It is clean and well equipped. We had a great time and barbecued.

Lovely and spacious with nice clean linen, sufficient extra blankets, fresh towels. Only criticisms would be insufficient DStv channel options and also there needs to be blackout curtains on that unit because it is right by the gate entrance and the car lights, from incoming cars, as well as the road shone in.

The very first room needs a new double bed mattress. He hurts from all the springs and the sheets need replacing and maybe a mattress protector. Shower doors also need to be replaced, because everything is wet when you have finished showering. Also neat and good value for money.
Friendly service. There is no anti-theft on door or windows. As a GP person, it makes me a little uncomfortable although I didn't feel unsafe in town at all. Only SABC packages available. Feel free to open DSTV channels for the amount paid.

We were there for Trans Xhariep, the unit was nice and big so we could put our bikes inside the unit overnight and the extra single bed was very handy for sorting out our cycling clothes. The air-con was also incredibly nice on the hot day! The kitchen could do with some upgrading. Bathroom and sleeping part were 100%.

Well located. Value for money. Just make sure you check the plates and the whole place on arrival for any chips or problems and report them, otherwise you'll be accused of it being you.

The owners' attention was a bit divided because 3 groups of people arrived at once. We were told we could have breakfast the next morning, but when I wanted to book it they said it was full. I would say a little confusing.

We only slept here for one night. The people are very hospitable and the place is clean and tidy. The room is well equipped with all the necessities. One can even braai in front of the room. Definitely 10 out of 10. Would definitely recommend for a comfortable overnight stay.

Really enjoyed staying there, there are 2 things which could be better: 1. a place for kids to work out their energy after sitting in the car. 2. Even though I felt safe, I did not feel comfortable leaving the bicycles on the trailer over night as car and trailer was parked next to the see through fence. This took a bit of effort and time with 4 bikes on the trailer. Maybe an electric fence on top of the existing fence is a solution considering that people travel with bicycles which are worth over 100,000 Rand, it would give piece of mind.
All I can say is 10 out of 10 everything. Very enjoyable and tidy rooms and very friendly owners.

Clean, neat and tidy. Sufficient amenities. However, I found it to be noisy.
It's an old place, in a very busy and old area! The people could be nicer and nicer! Still, there is everything needed and the place is beautifully clean! The facility is just an overnight facility, a bit impractical, but safe! We are just too grateful that we were able to sleep!
The room was even more beautiful than in the photos. There is enough space to move around with 5 people in the room. They provided coffee, tea and sugar for the evening and the service was excellent. We had a really nice and comfortable stay.
We stayed overnight in October 2017 and found De Lance very tidy. The beds were comfortable and very clean, the only problem we encountered was that there was no grass for the children to play on. This led them to play in the rooms and is not correct. Thank you very much.

On our trip down to the Cape, we unexpectedly encounter vehicle problems and cannot make use of our pre-booked accommodation at DeLance. Harriette welcomes us kindly on our return and informs us that she is giving our family of 5 free breakfast as she feels bad that we could not use our first stay! These down-to-earth, salt-of-the-earth people will definitely support their weather! Thank you DeLance for your affordable, friendly and comfortable chalets for tired families who just want to sleep well and get clean after a long day behind the wheel.

The owner contacted us in the afternoon to confirm that we were on our way safely. It was indeed a nice gesture on their part. We were warmly received by the owners and we were pleasantly surprised with the neat and clean room, bathroom and kitchen areas that greeted us. The area was very quiet and there was no disturbance from trucks etc. which does not pass by as the guest house units are located far from the N1 bypass. We will indeed stay there again on another occasion.
No toaster, backdoor key, egglifter, stove, corkscrew, dish drying cloth, bedding were not clean (sheets only were clean), no wire brush to clean braai, limited forks and knives. Internet page showed 1 or 2 places left. We were the only visitors there.
