325 guests' feedbackWe loved the place. The restaurant was fantastic, there was so much to see and experience, the location was absolutely beautiful.
After a long wait we had to ask to be served at the restaurant. TV didn't work. Reported it the next morning. When we returned to the room that evening, the TV was still out of order and the door was not locked. Coffee, tea and sugar were also not replenished on the second day.
Our second visit, this time unfortunately only one night. We were received very kindly and the staff immediately made us feel at home, nice to be checked in so professionally and hospitable.
Friendly reception and comfortable, just a bit far from the town.
The last time we were here a few months ago it was excellent. Sadly this time is proving to be a completely different experience. I must have accidentally booked a room that is not self-catering, and reception would not even give us a plate to eat off of. On top of that, the room was not cleaned properly, the toilet is dirty, one of the 2 mugs was dirty, and there's no bag in the bin. It's sad because we really enjoy the animals on the property, but we won't be staying here again on our next trip to Oudtshoorn.
I booked this establishment for my in-laws, they were so happy with a neat room and hospitality. They also couldn't stop talking about how delicious the restaurant's food was. Thank you very much for a nice experience.
Towels did not smell fresh. Shower sometimes didn't work. Our chalet was not private - too close to the breakfast restaurant. Restaurant prices very expensive.
Room floor tiles cracked. There is no container to pour water into the kettle. There is no place to wash coffee cups.

We were kindly received. Taken to our room but unfortunately we didn't know there were 2 doors to our room. Reception took us to the door with about 15 steps and told us to go in there. We had to carry all our things up the stairs (my mother is well into her 60's and stairs are difficult for her.) The other door had parking at the door. Would have been good if they had shown us that door. The room was clean. The food in the restaurant that evening was perfect! Definitely worth it.

My stay was peaceful and relaxing. There are so many activities on the premises: hiking, canoeing, swimming, and being surrounded by so many different animal species. My cat (who is like my child) accompanied me and was very comfortable. I would recommend having heating equipment in all rooms. The location is stunning and very close to other tourist attractions, such as Karusa wines, the Cango caves, and the Wildlife Ranch.

De Oude Meul is on a working farm just outside Oudtshoorn in the beautiful mountains. You feel completely on your own on the farm. There are several types of rooms on De Oude Meul (and the Old Mill which is located separately on the same premises). There is a large breakfast hall and very nice restaurant with plenty of seating and a large deck area overlooking the river.
The breakfast was very expensive for what you get.

With the last minute discount, it was definitely value for money.
Only stayed one night of a booked 3 nights. Room totally unacceptable.
Kindly substitute the current shower heads with higher-quality ones. The water disperses in every direction except the intended one. These shower heads are truly the least expensive and not of good quality.
For a 4-star hotel, we expected more. No DSTV, only OVHD. No cutlery or microwave. There was only 1 small emergency light for load shedding, which didn't work. The pictures show a room with nice white linen, but we got an old green duvet cover that looked like a backpacker's room.
We had a great time staying here on the way to the Congo caves. Safe and tidy with good customer service.

The lodge is pleasant. Rooms are clean. However, the restaurant service was lacking, and the decor of the rooms is very old and dated, and looks run-down.
We will definitely go again. Was a very pleasant atmosphere and terribly beautiful place.
The place has a beautiful setting, was clean and tidy. The outside was well kept. We did not get a chance to use the restaurant as we were attending a family funeral but I would like to go back under better circumstances. The entrance was a bit close to a bend in the road which could be dangerous, and caution is advised. Would want to visit soon again. I enjoyed the tranquil beautiful scenery.

It was a nice, safe environment. Had everything we needed for our stay.
We really expected more from Oude Meul. We were a family with small children. Oudtshoorn is 15 minutes away. We knew that, but didn't realize that their own restaurant doesn't open until 6 o'clock in the evening. Too late for small children. No facilities in accommodation for loadshedding. So can't cook. And no cell phone reception except wifi. I.e. loadshedding, no mobile reception.
Restaurant cozy, food and service good. Thanks for such an affordable price for the winter months. This makes it possible for South Africans to still be able to travel. The generator with stage 6 loadshedding is very welcome.

We went home in the A block, unit 2. Comfortable beds. Well equipped for overnight stay.
The relevant self-catering unit we stayed in had no sink in the bathroom. There was a face wash basin in the sleeping area in which you had to do everything. Face, hands, washing dishes and shaving. There was no purchased bottled water in the fridge, only a wine bottle with an unsealed plastic stopper that you can refill at the restaurant. There was no milk in the fridge either. The water kettle and microwave as well as the container with sugar, etc. was black from the ants.
Best plugs that can charge mobile phones, so no double adapter needed. Feel free to put up more open shelves in the kitchen area for more space. Kitchen not willing to make special requests, may have only bought one cup of milk and kitchen could not make scrambled eggs for my child. Carpets in room would have been nice.

Disappointed that I called and asked if our 2 children could share a room with us. We would have set up their stretchers in the rooms, but were immediately rejected and told there was no room for the children. On arrival there we saw that we could accommodate the children, because the room was bigger than expected. We should have found another place to stay for our children. We had a wedding at 3 o'clock in Oudtshoorn and called and asked if there was a chance we could come in earlier seeing that check-out time is 10 o'clock. Was told we couldn't get in before 2. This made us late for the wedding. I feel that they certainly could have accommodated us to make a plan so that we could be there just a little earlier. Place is very neat, very safe and very well lit. Everything about the place is neat, but will not use them again for the reason that they do not try to accommodate you at all. I was willing to pay more for the children.

De Oude Meul's rooms are large and comfortable. The breakfast is very tasty and offers many options. The dinner at the restaurant was also beyond expectations. However, the service is a bit slow. It is a good overnight destination and also a central base for exploring the area.

Facilities not bad, food at restaurant and breakfast average but pricey. Left my iPad in the room, but received a call from George at reception an hour after we left and got it returned to me by a friend who was coming through to Knysna. So, all's well and full marks to George and staff for their honesty.
Was very well received, the service was great and immediately felt at home. Would go again anytime, really enjoyed the silence and could sit or lie on the veranda with aircon in the room for the warmth. Als was as we wanted, just a break from all business.
Although we really enjoyed our stay at De Oude Meul, the Comfortable King rooms by the pool are not really ideal for self-catering. It's difficult to wash dishes or fill the kettle in the room basin. Also, a mirror above the basin would make shaving easier. Besides that, the pool, restaurant and friendly helpful staff all make this a great place to stay in Oudtshoorn.

We stayed at De Oude Meul Country Lodge and Restaurant for a week and had the most amazing stay. The Lodge is set amongst the most beautiful mountains and has amazing views. The Lodge has green rolling lawns and absolutely stunning willow trees. There are a number of animals and you feel as though you are living in the countryside. The grounds are beautifully maintained and all of the amenities are clean and wonderfully looked after. The staff are friendly and the resident dogs are just the cherry on top! The pools are refreshing and pool loungers welcoming after a hot day of exploring Oudtshoorn. The restaurants are also valued for money and have yummy food and beautiful views.
Will definitely come again and bring my family with. The service was fantastic from the staff.

The location is great with easy access to the Kango caves, Swartberg Pass and Klein Karoo. Will definitely stay there again. The gardens are a retreat for the soul. Well cared for and nicely laid out. Only negative is that also has a reception area for weddings and larger functions. Can be noisy at times, but overall the environment was quiet and peaceful.

George went to great lengths to accommodate our caravan, even giving us a choice of another unit. The restaurant was great.
Restaurant menu is very limited, staff unexperienced, but friendly. Rooms were clean and neat, but very limited cutlery / crockery for self catering.
The mountains, the scenery, the hospitality, it's on another level.
Although the unit is tidy and has most basic amenities (microwave, small fridge and limited DStv access), there is only one sink available in the unit for all washing up (breakware) and normal bathroom amenities (such as face and hand wash, toothbrush , shaving, etc.) should be used. It's a shame as it degrades the unit's functionality.

For people who only use self-catering, B6 lacked a drying rack for cutlery. Hooks can be fitted for dishcloths if you don't want to hang them over chairs or on handles. I know there is room for the towels, but opposite the shower door could also be an arrangement against the wall more for support if needed (such as for the disabled) and then it can be used for multiple purposes. I always say to establishments if the owner is on or near the resort, sleep for three nights in your own place and do what your guests do, then you will soon see what the flaws are - what you think is right often falls short - just want to say that we have already received good feedback on the advice. It is such a beautiful place surrounded by the mountains. Everything is very neat, clean and so well maintained. The residence, the gardens, swimming pools, the entire complex is a feast for the eyes. Ten out of ten to the whole team involved, you will definitely see us again.

We have stayed at De Oude Meul Country Lodge several times. This time was a less good experience. The management struggled to control the adjacent inconsiderate guests.
It's heaven on earth like this between the mountains and valley. From our arrival to departure was perfect with the friendly staff. Our B4 apartment had been very, very clean. We drove out to the caves, wow wonderful and Meiringspoort was excellent to see. Little things that bothered me a bit were the small kitchen, no sink, it would be very good if the necessary kitchen facilities were put in place and also braai facilities such as wood, braai tongs and such, no carpets in front of the bed and our neighbors didn't wash not very pleasant people, we were kept up all night with their noise and commotion. It must also be definitely shared with the guests that it is unacceptable to want to make noise like that and not take the other guests into account. At De Oude Meul Country Lodge you can really forget about the world and just calm down and relax and it's really great! Definitely a getaway for nice relaxation. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at De Oude Meul. We will definitely holiday there again and definitely recommend it.

We really enjoyed it. It is incredibly beautiful and the lawns are a feast for the eyes. We enjoyed the goats and rabbits, we enjoyed just walking around and even got to pop into the Glamping tents. Everything is clean and beautiful. The only negative was the steak we ate at the restaurant, it tasted sour and the meat inside was very white, not what you expect from a steak and the Cuppachinos are not cuppachinos at all, it's bland milk coffee with foam on it , not impressed with it at all. We will definitely visit again.
Relaxing, beautiful and fun. A broom could be useful in rooms even though there is a wonderful daily cleaning service which is really useful. And makes a difference.
We only stayed overnight on the way to our destination and were pleasantly surprised with the luxurious accommodation and layout of the establishment. The space, animals in camps, walking paths, pond and river as well as the a la Carte restaurants on the premises. Staff are friendly and helpful and concerned about the guests. Will definitely book again.
Either the cupboards are wiped or the bed is made but not both, there was a day we had no services in our room. The gate rule: between 9 at night and 7 in the morning you can't go in or out, you have to ask for a remote, it's not offered on your arrival. Just too far outside Oudtshoorn. 13 km and I wish they could advertise it like that on the website.

The place offers a lot for travelers who want to visit the Kango Caves. Beautiful gardens, in a lovely valley. For families with younger children, the rabbit cage is where you can visit the rabbits. There are benches everywhere where you look at the wildlife in the camps. The history of the mill is quite special. The mill is part of the restaurant. The kitchen part of the unit is small and is part of the master bedroom is the only negative I can mention, but for that there is a beautiful restaurant and the buffet breakfast available.
Will book the accommodation again and recommend to others.
Anthony was a star! Due to circumstances beyond our control we had to move our dates each time and Anthony was very patient and helpful. The place and surroundings are beautiful, neat and clean.

View and senary is amazing, most entertaining to watch the pigs, sheep, ostrich, rabbits and buck which come to graze. The dinner we had at the restaurant was the most memorable experience a delicious Kudu and Eland steak.

Kitchen extremely disappointing. Kitchen extremely poorly equipped. No sink - only plastic dish. No running water in kitchen. Shower head needs replacement. Linen outdated. Room does not meet 4 star standard in any way.
Basic and clean facilities. There is a braai area but it is not private and there is a restaurant. The animals and pools are great after a day in the car with children. My only issue was the very limited self-catering equipment in the two sleeper rooms which we had. My advise would be to bring microwave meals or a braai for dinner. The location makes it great as an overnight stop and it was comfortable and clean.

From our first contact with Anthony we received excellent service. The location of the guest house was perfect for the sights we wanted to visit. Anthony also made great recommendations and booked us some of the places he thought might be busy. My little girl loved walking around and visiting all the animals, especially the cute bunnies. The cookies for breakfast stole her heart. Our unit was comfortable with a nice porch and private braai area, just what we had in mind. We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend them highly. We can't wait for our next visit!

It was one of our best stays ever! The location, atmosphere and tranquility with absolute personal service, value for money is to be found here! We were also blessed to experience snow at the Swartberg Pass.
Staff went out of their way to make us feel at home and even gave us a room upgrade at no extra cost. Breakfast was great and the staff made sure that it was ready whenever we were, even when we changed times at the last minute.

Comfy bed, small room, rudimentary furnishings. Internet connection unreliable. Above all, it is not self-catering accommodation! There is no stove, no pots and pans, only a bar fridge. Fine for making coffee or warming up leftovers, but impossible to cook. This is probably done on purpose, so that one is forced to go to their expensive restaurant.

After we checked in at the Oude Meul a little late, he was still very helpful and still took the time to tell us about the area and accommodation. It is good to see how much attention is still being given to the site despite the restrictions that have hit the tourism value chain so particularly hard. It is understandable that certain adjustments had to be made but the impact is minimal. For sure still a beautiful resort and friendly, personal service that makes a guest feel special.
Interesting room. No sink in the self-catering unit with kitchenette. We didn't know how and where to wash our dishes. Good linen for beds but just want to mention that the master bedroom with double bed is in the open plan area and the 2 single beds are in the bedroom.
We only stayed one night and everything we wanted was there. The service is very good.

The unit we stayed in had everything you need if you're only staying a few days. It's not fancy, and the bathroom is pretty neat, but everything was clean and tidy. The reception was friendly, and a very warm atmosphere prevails every morning in the dining room where breakfast is served. The staff chats very friendly with all the guests, and therefore guests talk about having fun with each other. There are swimming pools and various animals (ostriches, goats, ponies and bunnies) in cages on the premises, and large lawns. So there is plenty to entertain children. The environment is also very beautiful.

Basic value for money accommodation. I don't think it should be listed with WiFi as it was not really available, however there are beautiful views, a great swimming pool and it was close to the Cango Caves and that is what we wanted. As mentioned basic stay nothing luxurious, but was enough for what we needed it for.

The Oudemeul is a peaceful place to stay just outside Oudtshoorn - Clean, tidy and lovely to stay, with hospitable staff. The reason for the low customer service rating is the following: We have booked a family unit which includes a kitchen with everything needed for self-catering. Our unit only had a microwave - no stove, or pots or pans - and we had to cook all our food somehow. They did bring us a two-plate stove when we asked with a big pot, but that's not what we booked and paid for.
The friendly reception was warm and cozy.
This is our third visit and will not stay anywhere else in Oudtshoorn. The maintenance on the gardens and buildings is very good and it is a feast for the eyes. Keep it up.

Only disappointment was the quality of the WiFi, it was extremely slow and very unstable. For the families with teenagers, I don't need to explain the frustration this can cause.

On a sweltering summer day, De Oude Meul was a real green oasis to come home to. The unit in the A-block we stayed in was spotless and tidy, with all the necessary facilities. The air conditioner worked great to cool the room. For us as older people, it was particularly convenient that the room also had a back door where we could park to carry luggage down very easily. The grounds are beautifully maintained, and the Grobbelaars River that flows past the area adds to the lovely scenery so I could photograph dragonflies to my heart's content. I only had one disappointment: When I later walked to the nearest pool in my swimming trunks, I found I couldn't get in to cool off because there was no handrail to hold on to, and the first step is a bit far for a 75 year old, so I wouldn't be able to get out on my own either! Oh dear! What I found incredibly interesting was the information about the farm and its people's history, especially the testimony of Boy Spies about prayer hearing in his life. Sorry there was not enough time to read all the stories.

We have been to several places to sleep and when we get there there is always everything. At this accommodation, not even plates were washed. We had to pay R75 for our meal. A basic need. We booked two units. One unit had a microwave which the other did not. We then went to make enquiries, where we then heard that not all units have a microwave as some are larger units than others, but the price is exactly the same so I don't know how that can be. You have to book the braai place, so only one unit can use the braai, so if you book too late it's over and you're half forced to eat at the restaurant. I was very disappointed. I would never have expected that. The environment is stunning and very child-friendly.

The nature is so beautiful and beautiful and would love to come again and stay there for a few days, and there is a pool which is a bonus. It had been a really hot day and their air-con which is also a bonus.

The family unit we were allocated only had a microwave but no stove (so no cooking facilities). There was also a shortage of salad bowls, pots and pans. Couldn't even bake or boil an egg. The braai area was not protected and was exposed to the wind and weather. The problems were pointed out to the owner and the management and were kindly discussed. Our apartment (No. 6C and 7C) is actually two comfortable rooms, but in my opinion is not a family unit.

We had a great time. The rooms were tasteful with enough space for 5 people. The breakfast was absolutely in a class of its own: ample and deliciously prepared. The grounds were tidy and the little children could safely enjoy the benefits that were there. The bunnies got a lot of deductions. In addition, there were many other interesting things to do and the host and wife also made a good effort to help. Highly recommend and I would love to go there again.

The lodge is very attractive with lots of trees, lawns, brooks, a pond and also has a swimming pool. Rooms are spacious and clean. Very good restaurant on the premises. Breakfast is excellent and cooked with a smile by the owner and her staff. Strong Wi-Fi signal. The lodge is conveniently located between Oudtshoorn and the Cango Caves and Swartberg pass. Highly recommended.

We were very happy and more than satisfied with the lodge. The premises were well maintained and amenities were exactly what we needed. Staff are very helpful and make you feel very welcome. We slept in the Luxury Suite which was very spacious, neat and modern. The indoor braai was very handy as well as fully equipped kitchen. We would certainly recommend this lodge to anyone who loves nature and still wants to sleep in style.

We had an unplanned extra 2 nights to linger on the way from Worcester to Senekal and then decided on Oudtshoorn. We are looking for a comfortable, well-equipped self-catering unit, but with restaurant facilities close by in case of a peaceful scenic setting - outside, but still close to town. De Oude Meul exceeded all our requirements with a beautiful site on which the units are spread. There is a wonderful feeling of space and space with enough lawns, garden areas and a nice clear swimming pool that cannot help but calm the visitor. All the staff are genuinely friendly and helpful and do not hesitate to accommodate special requests. We also really enjoyed the breakfasts - tasty and in a friendly homely atmosphere it brings the guests together. One will really be able to stay longer than 2 nights.
The only place to stop over when visiting the Cango Caves. This place is a paradise of nature and the accommodation and restaurant have not been left behind. Will always stay at Oude Meul Country Lodge when in the area.
We were treated very well from beginning to end. Our breakfeast was fantastic and even when we were late due to the late biathlon prize giving the gate was opened without any moans and groans. Super friendly people.
Comfortable, modern self-catering rooms with a well equipped kitchen and braai area. The air-con was heaven sent, as was the swimming pool. Adequate, covered parking for car and trailer. The restaurant was disappointing though, overpriced and a poor attempt to be fancy. Would go back but not to the restaurant. Breakfast was good. A mere 10 minute drive to the caves. Lovely play area for younger kids.

It is one of the most beautiful and well maintained resorts we have ever visited. The restaurants for breakfast and dinner are of high quality. The staff is friendly and very helpful. The very small problems that there were were sorted out immediately. We will definitely recommend the resort and will take every possible opportunity to visit the place again.

Excellent place to stay, fantastic views from the hotel and chalets - including buck, excellent breakfast menu, safe undercover parking, excellent restaurant menu, clean rooms and shower, friendly staff. Lovely play area for children with farm animals, it is well situated near Cango Caves and the ostrich farms.
TV channels didn't work but it wasn't that important for us as we were only staying overnight.

We were tired after a long day on the road and were excited about the air conditioning in the rooms. The TVs in the rooms were a bonus for the kids. A restaurant on the premises helped that we did not have to drive back to Oudtshoorn again in the evening. Tasty food was served for breakfast. Staff were greeted like old friends. We will come back for longer next time.
The room was incredibly dirty. The bedding had yellow stains all over it. The TV in the room's image was green. I don't usually complain about places, but the place was unacceptable. The breakfast the next morning was ice cold, even though we were the very first ones there.

Accommodation is neat and stylish. The restaurant's food is delicious and prepared with care. Breakfast was also delicious with a great variety. Site offers a peaceful atmosphere. The location is perfectly close to many of the tourist attractions.

Delightfully relaxing and a good start to a short break. The family unit is more than big enough for a student and a teenager. The place is well equipped and provides a very friendly service. Next time we will try the restaurant as well.

Good location. The restaurant at the hotel's food is not up to standard, except for their venison dishes.
From the first moment on our arrival, being met with coffee and cookies, to the last breakfast on the beautiful patio, looking out over the amazing green valley, we loved every moment at the lodge. We stayed in a self catering family unit, we loved the two rooms going out into the living area. Boy and Marianne can be very proud of De Oude Meul Lodge. We also had a meal at the restaurant and really enjoyed the atmosphere and delicious food.We will certainly go there again. Thank you!

We had a great stay and ate very well in their restaurant. Our stay there added up to a very nice motorcycle experience.

My husband and I and another couple stayed for 3 nights in the 'Family Unit.'It felt like our home! Everything was just right and the icing on the cake was the nice hot water when we could take a nice shower after a day out! The unit is serviced every day and the staff are top notch! After a very long hard day, the reception was friendly; the room clean, tidy, warm. Restaurant service friendly and fast - food excellent. Nice quiet and peaceful breakfast on time.
Second time we have stayed here. Wonderful location near cango caves. Have only used as an overnighter, but would be nice to stay longer
