88 guests' feedbackThe owner did not know about our reservation even though we confirmed it. Asked if we did pay, I had to show proof, I was then offered an alternative room. Will not stay here again.
Bathroom curtain and arrangement were filthy, and the shower was not clean. There was no water when we arrived at 6pm, and when we left at 7pm there was still no water.
Stayed and visited many laymen.
TV didn't work. Fan in the room did not work. Air conditioner did not work. Water must be turned on before one can use water. Fans very full of dust. Double bed mattress was yellowed.

Disappointing, disgusting.
Water was a problem, the pump was noisy all night, right next to the bedroom window, which made sleeping very difficult. The security gate did not have a key.
We rested well and had a tasty breakfast.
The premises met our requirements, i.e. for an overnight stay.
The number we were given went straight to voicemail. Eventually a lady came and opened up. No prior warning about loadshedding times, no provisions to mitigate against it. Bedding not warm enough for the cold winter night. Fortunately, we had stuff of our own. Next morning, no kettle - and then the stove wouldn't work to heat water for coffee.
Bedding in winter must be adjusted, e.g. winter sheets, maybe extra blankets or maybe electric blankets. It's not nice to sleep cold. So, I don't want to say I don't recommend it, but something like warm sleep makes a huge difference. The bed and breakfast advertisement is also misleading as the breakfast is no longer available.
Uncomfortable during loadshedding with no light or water. No gas equipment to boil water. Other people have noise twice in the early morning. Despite that, the stay was average. New mattress for the double bed would be an asset.
Sorry for the TV that didn't want to cooperate but it didn't really affect us or vote unfortunately. Thank you for a great stay, we will recommend you.

Was just a sleepover for one night.
The bed's mattress is really old and very uncomfortable, as well as it makes a lot of noise and will need to be replaced. The ceiling fan in the room does not work. The kettle was dirty.
I know the owner is away as she is ill, but rather shut down the business than give such an unpleasant accommodation. The fan in the bedroom had to be turned on using a pair of pliers! The outer gate did not lock, so felt very unsafe. No view to speak of, and not even salt and pepper in the kitchen. Not a happy customer. Please provide me with their banking details as there was no internet for me to do an eft at the time.
I am so disappointed in our experience with sleep leaking this weekend that I will never book again! Do you send people out to look at the places or do you take the owner's word for it? Something was making the most horrible noises, no working TV, bats in the roof and the house smells like something I'm not sure about! It was the worst experience. There is no sign outside the house for indication.
Very neat and affordable accommodation.
Upon arrival the unit was dirty. Previous visitors' breadcrumbs and sugar were still on the kitchen cupboards. No door or curtain at shower. Water was everywhere on the floor. The unit we were placed in was not even the unit we had booked. The TV channels are not working. The first question I was asked was about the egg - did you pay in full? Yes ma'am we have booked and paid. How do you ask your guests such a question when you have it in the notes? Not a friendly welcome at all. Will not book here again or recommend to anyone.
Clean, tidy, simple, all the basics you need and safe in town. Perfect for a night's sleepover.
Mattress was broken, no air conditioner in bed and room only had 1 fan. I didn't like my stay.

Advertised as a B&B, but there was no breakfast. The room was spacious and clean, but the ventilation was poor. Good bathroom. No water when there was load shedding.
I only slept over the night and didn't spend much time. But I have no complaints.

The bedding smelt bad and it was dirty.
After a whole day on the road, we arrive at our overnight stop during load shedding. It was not our hostess's fault, but no effort was made to provide an alternative light. She said the load shedding was only 2 hours which was then 4 hours without running water or an alternative to boil water with or make food. We had to call her to ask for a candle/light. Maybe some guidance will help make the place a huge success, because all the potential and right qualities are there.

Toaster went faulty and was replaced quickly.
Very nice overnight stay. Debbie got up in the rain to open for us. Only thing I would change would be the mattresses. Furthermore, everything was in its place and back to back. Will stop by again when I pass by.

The unit serves its purpose and the owner is friendly and accommodating. Bed not the most comfortable. Food was absolutely divine, highly recommend. Would've liked a more enclosed area for pets so they didn't keep visiting and bothering other guests.

Very comfortable and peaceful environment. Units are a bit on the old side but are still very clean and tidy. Although it's not the room I booked, I still slept well and rested well.
The mattresses are terribly thin. The pillows are so squishy they might as well not have been there. The beds' bedding also did not match at all. There was a desk in the room, but no chair to sit at. The shower door is missing an entire glass panel, causing the floor of the room to become wet from all the water splashing out. The floor was also not swept properly.
Our host was really nice. Place is fine if you are just looking for an overnight stay.

The hostess responded quickly to the accommodation inquiries and was available on arrival and provided milk, coffee, tea and sugar. Aloe cottage was neat and clean with enough space for two adults and two children. Kitchen was equipped with the necessary for an overnight stop. Our two dogs were welcome.
There are frequent water shortages in the Gariep Dam area in general. There was no water during our stay, the bedding was not particularly clean or comfortable even after a long journey, and there was no outdoor lighting provided so using the communal braai was difficult. The pet-friendly concessions make up for it somewhat, but the overall state was nothing to write home about.
Sliding door did not close properly and had to be left unlocked.

The house we found is very comfortable with everything you need, you feel safe with the locking gate, and with a relatively nice view out the front door. Strengths were the cleanliness in general was not fantastic, it appears as if only superficial cleaning is done, there were even bugs in the beds. The main air conditioning does not work well, and in the summer heat it is quite necessary. Finally, the back yard doesn't seem to get much attention, and is a bit of an eyesore. An important positive point is that we shortened our stay at the last minute, and it was accepted without any problems, so the owner is very helpful and accommodating.

It's a B&B, but without breakfast. The previous guests damaged the sliding door. A handyman was called in, the repair was only partially successful. Slept with an open door, but the neighborhood is safe. Everything average.
No card machine. No TV. Not clean. Gives a previous tenant a key and we still inside.

A really easy and comfortable stop off while travelling across country. Lovely, comfortable and clean. Reasonably priced and very conveniently located.
Debbie is a friendly host who made us feel welcome. The house we were given was very spacious. Neat, clean & quiet. Will return.
Reception was uncomfortable as a young boy was being trained to receive guests. Our account was not up to date even though we had paid months back via the website and the final amount was requested by reception. The accommodation is neat and clean, but needs a little overhaul, for example the magazines of 2013 can really be thrown away. It would also have been nice to have some milk, coffee and sugar just to have a quiet drink on the long road.
Unfortunately very weak. We did not get the unit we paid for and the hostess, Debbie, was also not available when we arrived, we never saw her. We were received and seated by a young boy (10/11 years old). Very nice boy and very helpful, but all he could tell us was that Debbie was his Grandma. The place is really not up to standard and among other things we had to wash the kitchen equipment again to be able to use it, because the previous guests had stored it dirty. I have photos available of the weaknesses/deficiencies. The impression was left that Edelweiss is cramming as many people as possible into what is a small place to make maximum money from tourists. We were also informed in advance that they do not accept cards for payment, only cash and no one works with cash anymore because it is a big risk, except the daredevils who want to clash with SARS. At least we were able to do an EFT on request.
Friendly service and a delicious breakfast in the morning. Very hot on arrival, air conditioning almost a necessity.

We arrived earlier than planned (12:00) and went to Edelwieiss guest house to find out if it would be possible to move in earlier. I rang the front doorbell 3 times with no response and dialed the cell phone number provided 3 times, with only a voicemail coming up. We then decided to do some shopping and fuel up first. By 13:00 we called 3 more times, drove to the guest house again and still got no response. It was particularly hot at Gariepdam on the day in question and we then decided to give up the stay option and drive on to Pretoria. I am well aware that the occupation time is from 14:00, but the least I expect. is that it will be possible to communicate and negotiate with the owner/management, which was not possible at Edelweiss. I don't expect a refund, but I feel their poor service in relation to defective, no, absent, communication must be pointed out.
Only very hot otherwise it was very nice.
Reception and accommodation was was right for price.
Debbie, the owner, was very friendly and hospitable. We went out for dinner at a resort close to the Orange River. I'm grate to have had such a nice rest with such friendly, informed people. O yes, excellent breakfast.

We slept well and rested at Edelweiss. It's comfortable enough for an overnight stay just to lay your head down after a long drive. Would have been nice to watch some TV, but not a "deal breaker".
Edelweiss B&B is a great overnight stop when travelling between the Cape and Gauteng.

We were received very kindly, the check-in process completed quickly, rooms were checked together to determine if we were satisfied and then released after a short discussion about facilities in the area. The facilities are good value for money as well as the delicious breakfast the next morning.
