Lady who received us could have been friendlier but nice place!
We weren't there until after dark. We received a key and were immediately taken to the restaurant / bar for a meal of braai meat that you can choose and grill yourself, and side dishes. Our unit was perfect for 3 people. Morning coffee on the porch with the sun rising over the pond was fantastic. I didn't want to drive! Thank you very much!
Made us feel at home immediately upon arrival. Accommodation was neat and very comfortable. Will definitely stay here again in the future.
The rooms were very clean and neat. For an overnight stay, it was fine. I thought it was closer to the dam, but the view in the distance is lovely. The rooms' outside patio areas are very close together, and you don't quite get this in the photos. It will not suit you if you like your privacy. Our room was a 5-sleeper and was at the end of the house, which was better for us. It's about 5 steps from our patio to the jacuzzi, so very close together. A very friendly lady met us and opened the room for us. Our room didn't lock from the inside, so that would need to be seen to. Overall, a pleasant stay.

Apartment 1 was nice and spacious even though we only stayed 1 night on the way back to Gauteng. The only criticism I have is the water pump which is close to the apartment and is constantly making noise, so there is not much silence. If people hang out late at night in the Staaldak and braai, it might become disturbing too. Furthermore, the children enjoyed the jacuzzi and the view on the dam.
It was a lovely, peaceful overnight stop with friendly people and a welcoming atmosphere. So neat with an eye for detail, everything you need, swimming pool spotless and beautifully covered, towels for fox and swimming at your disposal. Braai facilities and service were great. Simply order your barbecue side dishes and meat from their bar/restaurant. Most beautiful view of the dam. Definitely the best stopover on the way to the Cape, much more so than Colesberg.

The stay was very nice and I really like the evening meal where we chose our own meat and grilled it ourselves. The sunrise over the pond was very beautiful. I wanted to book the accommodation. The reason I booked this accommodation is because it said they use solar power to heat the indoor pool as well as the jacuzzi. So I expected the pool gut to be just that little bit lukewarm, it wasn't. It was freezing cold, so my kids couldn't swim properly. We also asked that they turn on the jacuzzi. They said they would but never did. The accommodation itself was nice, but I was willing to pay the extra money for the pool and jacuzzi, and I was very disappointed.
The "view" is very nice, pool and jacuzzi are nice and clean and very accessible. Service is great. Bed sleeps very well, and the bedding is nice soft, clean and comfortable. Shower is nice and big. WiFi reception is not good.

The establishment sadly didn't suit our requirements. The room we were allocated had no privacy as it looked straight onto the communal braai and swimming pool. However, it was a convenient stop between Durban and Cape Town.

On the way back to Pretoria from Mossel Bay, my family and I (wife and 2 children) spent the night at the accommodation. We were kindly received, despite the fact that we arrived late. I would highly recommend people to spend the night there, but make sure you arrive before sunset to enjoy the beauty of the landscape.
Everything was great. Would have liked to use the pool and jacuzzi (one of the reasons I booked) but unfortunately it was not available.

Very neat and clean. Very small sleeping area, own bathroom with shower. Communal dining room, braai area and swimming pool. We were lucky to have the common area to ourselves. Will be a problem if there are other noisy or untidy guests because everyone uses the same area. Ideal if there is a large group of people traveling together.
Guests must be informed a day or so in advance that there is no water available during 'load shedding' — not for flushing toilets, nor for drinking or washing hands. We were lucky to find another open shop to buy a jug of water. It will help if there is at least a jug of drinking water available in the unit for emergencies.

A fantastic view. Owners very helpful and hospitable. Everything was neat and clean. Only pity is the hot water to shower. Owner shared his logistical problem with the water supply, I feel sorry for them about that. I would stay there again anytime.
Rooms' main exit/view all open onto a common porch, as do the bathroom windows, so you can't open windows or doors unless you don't mind anyone seeing you. No alternative power, which is very bad as there is also no water when load shedding, unacceptable for guests or vacationers. Check-out time, which is 9 o'clock, is too early. Definitely not a destination to return to.
We spent the night here on the way back from the Cape, it was the perfect distance to make the long journey a little easier. Louise was very helpful and contacted me in time to give me all the check-in details, address and other information. The unit was clean and very comfortable. The view is beautiful. We would definitely recommend Fish Eagle Lodge and would love to visit again.

Had a great time. Hot water is a problem, even the first person who wanted to shower could not shower in hot water in the morning. There is a gas stove but not a boiler that can be used. Was a little unsure about the breakware that doesn't cater for the amount of people the unit can accommodate. Was afraid that we could be held responsible. There were only 4 wine glasses, 4 teaspoons even though we booked for 5 people. Other breakables were more than just 5, so it was just confusing. Also lovely place - very clean and comfortable. Would definitely go again and also recommend to others. Websites' in/out times differ meaning - should be reviewed.

This is now the second time we have stayed on the way from Gauteng to George and the place still remains a gem. The view over the Gariep Dam is incredible.

The view and furnishings may be beautiful but the fact that the walls are prefabricated material and are literally paper thin was a huge disappointment. I listened to every word of the conversation of our neighbors. Ridiculous to pay the price we did for that. I was, and still am, furious!

We only slept over, but were very comfortable. Everything was neat and clean. The view was very beautiful and I think you will be able to have a good time around a barbecue fire in the evening. The pool was a nice escape after a long day on the road. The hostess was very accommodating with our check-in.
We had an uncomfortable sleep as the bed/mattress needs replacing - very old. The bedroom was very clean and the bathroom stunning. The bedroom door faces onto an indoor enclosed room where the other rooms also lead onto. The guests next door were sitting chatting until the early hours of the morning - one couldn't leave the door or window open for fresh air as it's right onto the same room where the other guests were sitting. Very expensive for this type of accommodation.

We could never have imagined that at Gariepdam, which we considered until now as an overnight stop on the way to Cape, there could be such a beautiful place! The indoor swimming pool and the beautiful view over the dam impressed us beyond measure. Louis and her husband's service was excellent! The communal kitchen that guests can use is very well equipped - everything we needed was available. We recommend Fish Eagle Lodge with the utmost confidence!
Hostess very friendly. Maybe you should just put a bell at reception, I had to call a few times before someone came to help me. The view is beautiful over the dam. The indoor pool is fantastic. All that bothered us were the people who lived next to us, the man came standing and coughing on the porch at half past five in the morning. Smoker! Instead, walk away and go smoke and cough where you don't disturb others. Please replace the mattress, definitely already slept in.

We had a wonderful stay at Fish Eagle. The staff is very friendly. It was great to be able to get in the pool and relax after a long day of driving. Will probably spend the night here again.
Rooms were OK, but overlooking the pool, where everyone is walking around, not total privacy. Although the lady who works there is very friendly and helpful. Nice view and good facilities.
Improvement areas. Better mattresses on beds - my mattress caved in the centre ( room 5 ). No water during loadshedding so consider installing an inverter / generator.
Place is comfortable and if you feel like a barbecue after a long drive, there are excellent facilities to do that.

Louise was excellent messaging us confirmation and expected load-shedding times. The unit was exceptionally clean and had all the facilities we required. The pools and general areas were very well maintained. My kids loved going between the jacuzzi and the heated pool. Then finally the views of Gariep dam were amazing with a bright orange sunset. Looking back we should have spent a day on the dam instead of only an overnight stay. This will be our plan for the next holiday! Would definitely recommend this property.

Comfortable accommodation with all the necessary basics. Jacuzzi was a fun added bonus. Abundant birdlife in the garden. There was a lot of load shedding scheduled during our stay but thankfully owners made it bearable using generators to keep essentials working.
More info regarding where to eat etc. will be a bonus. A person at reception in the morning would have been nice. The ladies in the kitchen weren't sure about what and where, but that's my opinion, because we also have a guest house. It was a comfortable stay for me and the 2 boys.

Was our first visit to Gariep dam, it was an incredible experience and with it we went home in the beautiful Fish Eagle Lodge. Beautiful place and highly recommended!
As the restaurant is no longer running the guests have generously been given the freedom of using the kitchen, crockery etc as well as the amazing indoor braai. Wood was also provided. The ladies looking after the place do a good job. The indoor pool with a lovely view is set amongst the tables & couches in the covered verander which can be enclosed with folding doors. Each room has glass sliding doors onto the verander which can be noisy if other guests aren't considerate. Folding screens have been provided at each door for privacy.

We found the accommodation neat and clean and will stay there again. All we can mention is that there might be an extra table in the room, next to the coffee tray, the space on which one can work to make tea/coffee is but pretty much on the top of the fridge .

Beautiful view - the room setup is a bit strange as you have no privacy - the room opens up to the indoor pool with everyone walking past your room. The towels are thread bare and for face dry only.

We just stayed the night. Quick in and out. Haven't had a chance to look around. The toilet has a roll with a thread on it that you have to pull to flush the toilet. I think the toilet should work properly, not pull a roll to flush it, repair the toilet.

Fish Eagle Lodge has a spacious family apartment with 2 separate rooms, a full kitchen and living room. Indoor pool and hot tub which kids thoroughly enjoyed.
Unfortunately, we just slept there and didn't get the opportunity to make the most of it.

Beautiful, neat unit. All the rooms are spacious. Our unit was private with its own braai facilities. The beds' mattresses are of high quality. There is a Jacuzzi that was on when we got there and the kids could use it and enjoy it. The indoor pool was a bit cold, but the kids still had fun! It was really value for money. We have recommended it to all our family and friends!

The place was very comfortable and well furnished. The hot tub and pool were a welcome addition. The view and sunrise was an experience.
The children enjoyed the pool. We were almost the only people there but I can imagine it could get quite busy with more guests because the rooms are all next to each other and open onto the common play and living area with a nice swimming pool, a braai area and a Jacuzzi. The bar was unfortunately closed but there is a fridge in the room and an OK Mini Market in town so make sure you stop there for refreshments before coming to the lodge.
Photos on website are a bit misleading as there is nothing to drink or eat available. There is also no coffee in room, only sugar, and hairdryer needs a plug which is also not available.

Although it is very neat, there are no extras that make the stay special. No coffee or tea etc. is not provided, no toiletries, only one clothes hanger, also no space or something to put luggage on in rooms or toiletries in bathroom.
On arrival the lodge seemed unassuming, however, when walking into reception the atmosphere, friendliness and appearance was amazing. The accommodation, pool, Jaccuzi and recreational area, kitchen and braai facilities was pristine. Should I need to pass the area again I would not hesitate to stay over.

The rooms' sliding doors all open onto the veranda where the swimming pool is. The swimming pool is about 3 meters from the rooms. When someone is swimming or when you are sitting in your room or on a chair outside your room it feels like you are on top of each other. It is also noisy when people are hanging out on the porch in the evening and you are lying in your bed. The interior walls of the rooms are also not soundproof, you can hear your neighbors talking, hear the TV and also when they use the bathroom.

We stayed in Unit 6, which is one of the only self-catering units at Fish Eagle Lodge. We received a text message from the lodge before arrival. Booking in was a breeze. We stayed for a full week. The unit was clean on arrival, and it gets cleaned everyday there after. Unit 6 has the best view of the dam. We had access to the Jacuzzi, indoor pool and all the braai areas. I've already recommended Fish Eagle Lodge to a few people and I will continue to do so. We really didn't want to leave.
Really nice location, with a great view over the dam. Nice swimming pool and Jacuzzi. The only thing to note is that the Jacuzzi runs on solar power so depending on the weather it might be cold. Nice people and nice clean comfortable rooms.

We initially booked a self catering family unit plus a room for my wife and I, months in advance, so that we could accommodate my adult son, daughter and ourselves for an overnight stop. Sometime later we were contacted by the lodge staying that they had inadvertently double booked the family unit but would give us the equivalent accommodation at the same cost, to which we agreed. On arrival however, we found that they offered two rooms and offered a refund of the balance meaning my adult son and daughter would have to share a bedroom and that the units were not self-catering but shared a common kitchen with all the other guests. After some discussion, it transpired that they had booked three rooms for us after discovering the double booking and so agreed to revert to that arrangement at the same price as promised. We remained disappointed that the kitchen had to be shared with strangers but later discovered that the other rooms were booked by people we know so that by chance turned out fine. The position and facilities are beautiful, there are wonderful views over the dam, the rooms are comfortable and there is plenty of room for maneuvering and parking of trailers, etc. The lady (owner?) manning reception was friendly and apologetic about the mix-up. The communal facilities are magnificent, however, in our opinion would be best suited to a group booking as the bedroom sliding "view" doors open directly onto the communal indoor pool and lounge (which are very close to the doors) and there is little privacy.

We only slept one night, but the Family room was very large, and neatly plenty of sleeping space. Would have wanted to stay a night longer if we knew it was so neat.
We were pleasantly surprised with everything that Fish Eagle Lodge has to offer at a very affordable price. Besides the beautiful view over the Gariepdam with an incredible sunset, there is also a heated indoor swimming pool and an open-air hot tub in a beautiful garden. The rooms feel luxurious with a large, comfortable bed and a spacious bathroom with bath and shower. Each room has a sliding door that opens onto the covered recreation area. The interior decoration is done professionally and with great care. There is a TV, fridge and WiFi available in the room. The bar and restaurant in the leisure area is currently closed due to Covid, but is apparently going to be enlarged and reopened in 2022. We would recommend Fish Eagle Lodge anytime as probably the best accommodation at Gariepdam and would definitely stay there again.
What a beautiful guest house. The covered swimming pool and Jacuzzi make the stay extra nice. Rooms were nice and clean and service excellent. They didn't serve breakfast during Covid, but we were able to use the kitchen and all its appliances. They also have a nice indoor grill that you can use. Only negative point is the tiles around the pool and in the bathroom are very slippery, so make sure your feet are well dried. We will visit again.

We stayed overnight on our way home from Cape Town. The rooms were very spacious and comfortable and the recommendations for dinner were great. We, however, did not manage to get a good night's rest as the guests booked in 2 other rooms drank and made a racket in the pool area and outside until 1am. I did not see any signage requesting noise levels to be kept to a minimum at certain hours and understand that there is a social area, but this put a damper on our stay. I would recommend this to groups who would like a mini break away and want to visit together, but definitely not for a stop over before a long day's travel.

We stayed overnight at the Fish Eagle Lodge in Gariep, as a halfway stop to the Western Cape. We towed our caravan with us and looked for safe accommodation where we could plug in the caravan (fridges) during the night. This place offered everything my family needed - and more. Before our arrival, Louise sent us a message to ask what time they could expect us. When we stopped there we signed in and were shown to our apartment. The unit was neat and clean and exceeded all our expectations. The icing on the cake was the jacuzzi and the pool right by our unit. The children thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Afterwards we could relax, enjoy a movie and go to sleep on fresh linen. There is more than enough storage space, from the kitchen to the bedrooms, and more than enough hanging space in the bathroom, especially for everyone's wet swimwear and towels. The kitchen offers everything we needed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. This place will definitely see my family again. It is ideal if you have to stay here for 1 night, or even a weekend/week. The town and shops are conveniently close (not for walking, but for driving soon). Small and intimate.
Unit 6 is a perfect stay over for a family on the way to Cape Town. Loved the patio with the view of the dam and the kids enjoyed the pool. Really beautiful. Just one small suggestion would be to have coffee, tea, sugar and milk in the units for travellers leaving early. This is the 1st B&B we stayed at that didn't have that in the rooms.

It was just us and 2 other guests there. I would only worry in high season and the lodge is full about the noise with the bar and pool so close to the rooms.
There is a beautiful indoor pool as well as an outdoor hot tub. When we got there it was pretty cold (even though it was late November). Unfortunately the water wasn't warm enough so we didn't use the swimming facilities, but believe it would be very nice under different circumstances. We also understood that you could get breakfast on site, but it was not like that at the time. So just make sure in advance whether meals are available if this is important to you. There are braai facilities for guests, and restaurants quite close by. Also be aware that each room does have a separate door, but that all doors open onto the swimming area. Something else I would also like to mention is that the shower is large and open, but that the floor is very slippery after showering, and you have to be very careful not to slip (it's now room 4 specifically).

The place is beautifully new and well laid out. There is a lot of time and, I think, love spent to make the guests as comfortable as possible. I also enjoyed sitting around the fire with other guests and chatting. Some of them will definitely remain friends! Room is beautiful and the bathrooms exceptional. Actually an extra room. My wife really enjoyed and appreciated it.

See safety star rating. Suggest that sturdy hand rails be mounted on the wall at the shower for a safer access to and from the shower as the shower platform is raised +- 20 -25 mm, and can result in a slip and fall incident, as the shower is not closed and the bathroom floor is wet.
Vriendly at reception. The room and bathroom were very comfortable, neat and clean. The pool and communal area looked very nice, but we were just overnight and did not use it. Being high up the sunrise over the dam was something to see and provided an unrestricted panoramic view .of the whole dam.
We slept well. All problem is the asbestos walls. The children in the room next to us kept banging against it and you could hear everything.
This was our second time in the lake view apartment and the experience was even better than the first time. We were received very kindly and spontaneously. The unit is ideal for staying overnight or even a day longer and exploring the area. We will definitely come again.

The position of the accommodation is perfect.
Arrived there and met by very friendly and helpful ladies. We let them know that we would be there 10 minutes after check-in and they were very accommodating with their time. Unit 6 was nice and private and we could see the pond just like in the pictures. The unit itself was very nice and clean. Although one can see the bedding is no longer brand new and the beds are getting a bit soft. Air conditioners were dead silent. We also asked for a restaurant suggestion and Tjaailatyd did not disappoint. We also sat on our porch the next morning and saw the most beautiful sunrise over the pond while drinking coffee. I would like to stay over for 2 nights next time so we can also explore the area. It will be at Fish Eagle for sure. The booking had been as stress-free as the sleepover.

The place is not too nice, but I expected to get a two bedroom unit with a bathroom. We were 3 adults who had to share 2 small rooms. Our bathroom was also in the hallway, which made it very uncomfortable.

Hanlie was very friendly and welcoming. However, as for the place, we got the wrong room, no. 5 with a double bed instead of No. 4 with a queen bed, bathrooms were also very different, shower-bath that leaked a lot, instead of just a big shower like room 4's. When we got there there were already people in the room we booked and we were told that we could ask them to move ourselves (which we didn't). We understand that the place is under new ownership, but the bar was closed. It was said that they did have a license, but that they were waiting for the previous owners to move their stuff out before opening it again. The view was beautiful, except for the construction debris on the other side of the wire that the municipality has yet to move. We feel we paid far too much for what we got, because facilities are advertised and when you get there they are not available. Hanlie did offer to give a discount if we book again, but unfortunately we will not book there again. It's a shame, because the place has so much potential.
The place was so refreshing after a long drive. Not far from the N1 and very convenient and will definitely recommend it.

If you are looking for basic and pocket friendly accommodation you will love this. The photos on the internet are taken from the best possible angles and are a bit misleading. No windows in the room and the back doors of the room open onto the dining area, so it's not very private either. I would say the accommodation might be ideal for a work sleepover. I will avoid it next time.
The only issue we had was that there was no hot water when we showered. This might have been a temporary issue though.
It was an unpleasant stay. Four young people sat on the steps just outside the swimming area smoking, drinking and talking loudly from the time we checked in until we went to sleep. One cannot go to bed early either, because the conversations continue and the lights in the swimming area are only turned off at 10. In my opinion, this accommodation is only good for groups visiting together. There are also no braai facilities.
Premises are very neat. It's a shame that the jacuzzi didn't work because that was one of the reasons why we booked there. Good value for money.
No sleep until after 12 o'clock - we only came to spend the night, but the other guests were making a lot of noise and drinking. Management was absent and did not intervene. For the price, not so good - the bedside lamps were not plugged in and we had to search for the plugs ourselves. No chocolate or soap. We stayed for R 550 where we received something on the pillow and soap and hand cream. Because we were late due to lost around the dam and a lack of signposts our reception was chilly, which is a shame because this is a very nice place with a nice view. At least had a nice swim. Recommended? I don't know - I doubt it.
There is nothing wrong with the accommodation but we want to highlight the following: parking for vehicles is not behind closed gates, free access for anyone. The rate is high for the standard of accommodation.

Really beautiful, panoramic view, especially from communal pool area. Bedrooms/bathrooms adequately furnished and clean. No available adaptor, or available socket for that matter for phone charging. Very odd building layout in the sense that most bedrooms face via a sliding door onto the indoor communal/pool area. There is thus zero privacy and no dam view if curtains are closed. And noisy if people are using communal area. This is better suited for a big group for which this is no problem. Presumably due to Covid there was also no one on site for service or refreshments or breakfast.

Accommodation can become uncomfortable if the common area is full of people.
The customer service was terrible. The rooms are separated with dry wall - so you literally hear everything that goes on at night. People next to us were drunk and very loud, it kept us and our 10 month old baby awake. We were there for 1 hour and could not have checked in earlier, it was raining, we were tired, after I had a few words with the very unprofessional manager, she allowed us.

Unfortunately could not use the pool or jacuzzi as the owners were busy with repairs. This is completely understandable, but it would have been good if we had at least been informed ahead of time. Furthermore, everyone was helpful and friendly.

Room airconditoned with fan as well, bar fridge, plenty of hot water with decent shower pressure, plenty of off street parking. Bar closed, so take own drinks. Breakfast not included in rate, but can be arranged by prior arrangement. Braai facilities available.

My problem was the music and conversations right in front of my room. We were tired and wanted to get a good night's rest. I understand everyone is in the holiday spirit, but hang out and laugh in front of your own door and respect other guests.

We spent the night here between Cape Town and Johannesburg. Christo's customer service was top notch, thank you. We did book the place that does not have a pond view, but it is lovely big and spacious for 4 adults. The air conditioning is definitely needed.

Fish Eagle Lodge is very well located at the Gariep Dam and on the route between Gauteng and the Western Cape. The restaurant of the Stijl Gariep Hotel offers good meals when the Fish Eagle Kitchen is open.
The photos on the website and the reality do not match. Other guests were sitting and visiting in front of our sliding door, so we had to close the curtains from start to finish. We could have stayed at another hotel for R130 more with a much better experience. I feel the place is overpriced.

The owner is a gentleman who was available at all times to meet our needs at every turn. The view is as breathtaking as advertised and we were supplied with enough wood to build many bond fires. An excellent stop over for a night or two at which you will feel very much at home.

It is extremely clean and very peaceful. Air conditioners work and are definitely needed in the heat of our summers. Unfortunately the fridge was not switched on and was completely defrosted. It took most of the evening to get cold and was a problem for the cheese and other products that needed to be kept cold. The Hostess apologized profusely and brought us ice cream to try to help in the meantime. Otherwise everything was perfect - thank you very much!

Children enjoyed pool and facilities. Greatly rested for the long road.
The photo's look way better than what you actually get. Having said that our stay was pleasant enough. The bath mat should be changed after each stay - it is one of those old toilet and bathmat sets that was rather dirty.
Fish Eagle Lodge has a very peaceful environment. We could really rest before we had to drive again the next day. Will recommend them for sure.
Wonderful view, comfortable, clean, safe, fully equipped overnight destination. Bathrooms newly renovated. We used bigger as well as smaller apartments. Met expectations. Check in and out was swift.
The booking said breakfast was included. The hostess said that her chef is unfortunately ill so there is no breakfast for December. The extra that there is a breakfast included must then be collected.

The room was clean and tidy with its own bathroom but no privacy outside the room as everyone has access to the pool area right outside the room's sliding door. Also no kitchen facilities inside the room. We had to use a joint braai area as well as a kitchen.

We were very pleasantly surprised. Doesn't look like much from the street, but inside it's a different story. We were kindly received and immediately made to feel at home. The five bedroom unit was wonderfully spacious - just what we needed. Comfortable braai area next to the unit. It was pretty windy, but no one can control that. Ideal for a lovely, peaceful overnight stay.
It was very nice and peaceful. Too bad the wind blew like that, otherwise we would have enjoyed a nice boat ride.

We booked an apartment for 3 people, but upon arrival they were informed that they were not full and would rather give us 2 rooms with a view of the dam, which is "better". Unfortunately, the sliding door of the room opens onto the recreation room that overlooks the dam. This means that you have no privacy because your room is open to everyone in the relaxation room to see. The only fresh air when you close the door at night is via the air regulator that does not work with load shedding. So the room was stuffy throughout the night and if there were noisy guests in the relaxation room it would be a nightmare.

We rented 4 rooms facing Gariepdam and was pleasantly surprised with the friendliness of the owners. The rooms were clean and more than we expected. We will definitely be back again.
We were received very unfriendly. We were told we would not be able to have breakfast the next morning because we had booked too late. Wi-Fi is included, but we were left without the password. The accommodation itself is beautiful and neat with a very nice location. Also think guests should be aware of the Jacuzzi that is not working.
The area is quiet and the place is peaceful, though the Jacuzzi would have been nice if it was heated.

The rooms are beautiful and well equipped with their own bathrooms, TVs, fridges and coffee-making facilities.
The lodge is exactly as advertised. The clean and well kept luxury suites provide a view overlooking the Gariep Dam which adds to a sunrise and sunset of tranquillity. Its location at the top of a quiet small town forms a great way to stop over and refresh along a long drive to the coast. We received a warm welcome and the hosts were helpful with any information a visitor to the town would need. We'll definitely be back to explore the entertainment and activities the town provides. Since we just stayed one day to refresh, we didn't get to do much but there are lots of activities for a weekend getaway. The lodge also has its own indoor entertainment area with a swimming pool which we didn't get to use because of chilly weather. I'd highly recommend the place overall.
They upgraded us for free from an apartment to Unit 6 which was very nice. Nice neat and modern unit with beautiful view. Fast Wi-Fi. Unfortunately, they only turned on our geyser at 18:00 when we arrived, so we had to wait more than an hour for hot water which was a bit bad with 2 small children. The unit, linen and towels also unfortunately smelled of cigarette smoke. However, I would still suggest Fish Eagle Lodge for an overnight stay. Very pretty.

The photo shows that there is a view of the pond. Bitterly disappointed because owner did not inform us that our room has no dam view. Other than that, everything was very good.
Clean and comfortable accommodation. Received a friendly welcome, even though we arrived a bit late. Room a nice size. Only challenge was that our bathroom was outside the room, which isn't nice, if you need to get up in the middle of the night. We did see other rooms with nice en-suite bathrooms, so this might only apply to the family room. Beautiful view of the dam. You need to book breakfast if required. Not a lot of eating places for dinner in the town, but the family restaurant we went to, was adequate, with good food. This is a nice, clean, safe, stopover spot, if you are driving from Cape Town to Gauteng. We will definitely go there again!
This place has an amazing view and clean rooms, but the bathrooms are across a public hall and the water was ice cold from the second shower. Has lovely potential but bathrooms need to be en suite and one needs warm water.

It was so nice to walk into the spacious, clean and neat place after the long road! We were received very friendly by the owner and he took us to our accommodation immediately. This was our second time here and both times were excellent. Friendly reception, clean rooms, peaceful atmosphere. Can definitely recommend the place for an overnight stay between Cape Town and Jhb. There are enough cupboards available in the rooms that you will be able to comfortably stay there for longer.

The bedding needs to be replaced and an aircon in the second room because it was too hot to stay in but the owners were very friendly and accommodating and the unit was clean.

The photos show a beautiful lodge with swimming pool, bar and view of Gariep. We assumed we wouldn't have a view from our unit, but didn't think we'd be staying behind the lodge's garages. The units in the lodge are acceptable. The unit we stayed in is clean and tidy, but it is much more old-fashioned than it appears in the photos. A little modern detailing would make it more acceptable for the price they were asking. The price for 3 people to basically sleep in an outside room was not value for money at all for us. If it was cheaper we could still swallow the pill. Feeling put in.
The place is very nicely situated and the facilities are very cosy. All the rooms connect to the pool area and the rooms are exceptional especially the bathroom.
The family room is well furnished and nice pool for the children. Beautiful hiking trails.

Unit six is spacious and very tidy. There is a beautiful stoep with an excellent view of the Gariep Dam. We had a really wonderful overnight stay. Rested, we continued our journey the next day when we were told that our peron accident had packed one of the lodge's pillows and had to pay for it. It was quite a bit unpleasant.
Hostess very friendly. The smoke smell hanging in the foyer is not acceptable. Shifted guests around without complete information.
Clean and tidy. Everything one needs.
Shower was clogged with no shelf or anywhere to put your soap on. On arrival there was no one at reception nor did they answer the phone. Fortunately, the owner or manager arrived later and was able to get our key. Room also at the back of the Lodge between the boathouses.
The pictures that were on the internet gave me a completely different idea. It was clean, but not what I expected we would get.
Was really a nice experience and the owners was really hospitable. The breakfast was delicious and served in a buffet. Peaceful and quiet and just the right tonic for a weekend away. See you again soon.
