Goxhill Trout Lodge offers self-catering farm accommodation on a working dairy farm, Goxhill Farm, in the beautiful Underberg area. Escape to the country, relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors at Goxhill Farm which is set in the foothills of the spectacular Southern Drakensberg.
The farm is situated on the boundary of Himeville Nature Reserve and other wildlife areas such as Loteni, Cobham, Garden Castle, Vergelegen and Coleford, are just a short drive away. Guests can experience farm life, and take a tour of the the working dairy where 1500 cows are milked daily. The farm is a bird watchers paradise, and there are many hiking trails and cycling trails close by.
Self-catering accommodation is offered in the Main Farmhouse Lodge, and 4 farmyard cottages, namely Farmhouse Cottage, Stables Cottage, Kingfisher Cottage and Fish Eagle Cottage.
The Main Farmhouse Lodge is a modernised historic farmhouse, which can accommodate 10 guests in 4 beautifully appointed bedrooms. Built more than 100 years ago, the ‘gracious lady’ is carpeted and tiled throughout, and has a magnificent fireplace for those chilly evenings. The farmhouse has a fully equipped kitchen.
The cottages are set in a beautiful garden and offer limited self-catering facilities. The cottages are equipped with a microwave oven, fridge-freezer, cutlery and crockery, cooking utensils, and braai facilities.
Goxhill boasts the largest lake in the Underberg area. The Polela River which runs through the lake provides a natural breeding environment for trout, providing fishermen with the opportunity of pitting their skills against 'wild trout', an exciting challenge for both seasoned anglers and new-comers to the sport. There is also a second, smaller dam on the farm, which is managed by the Underberg Himeville Trout Fishing Club.

7 guests' feedbackLovely dam in front of the cottage, and I'm sure it's a wonderful place to fish or paddle. The tap water was not good. It would have been ideal to provide a few litres of drinking water.

Place not at all as advertised on web page. No wifi, no backup power, no water if the power is out and no TV. Extremely extremely poor service. Only came the day before we had to drive to find out if everything was in order. Also just walked into the house without knocking or saying anything, just opened the door and that while everyone was still in bed. Fireplace doesn't work at all either. Smoke one out. Place also not cleaned at all and was dirty.
The unit as a whole is nice, but not very clean. Dusty and cupboards and handles and walls very dirty. Bedding was pretty clean.
The host is very informative and an interesting person to chat to. I shall be back.
Real farm atmosphere. Very basic.
