1400 guests' feedbackThe rooms are very neat, but the water stinks. We booked two rooms. One room's shower had no water, and when we tried to shower in the other room, the water stank so bad that the room smelled like rotten eggs all night. The bed was also very uncomfortable. It is sad because we have stayed here before and it was much better.
Colleen went out of her way to help us. Great. Water has a very very bad smell. It is possible that this is a village problem and not a lodge problem, but it is really bad.

We were looking forward to a swim, but unfortunately the pool was dirty. The restaurant serves great food and the hotel has all the essentials. Don't expect much in terms of TV viewing variety as this was limited to 2 channels, one being DSTV channel 100. Regardless, if you are looking for a good place to get some rest, this is it. Comfortable beds and peace and quiet. Really neat and clean.

The unit is being upgraded, and most units are already done. I was in unit 4, it was comfortable, clean and had fresh linen. However, there is an urgent need for paint, new towels and curtains in the sleeping area where the neighbors barbecue meat. There must please storage space for toiletries in the bathroom. The open corner space can be filled with shelves. The fridge wall plug next to the sink is a risk, but otherwise everything is great with a pool and beautiful gardens. There is parking right in front of your front door. This is in no way negative, just tips for good housekeeping.

The accommodation was for 2 rooms, one for 3 adults, which was clean and tidy. The beds were just unbelievably hard and night's rest was scarce. The 2nd room was for my parents, and it's really not a self-catering unit. The fridge is very small, and there is only 1 sink in which to wash dishes and face, with very little space. The water damage definitely needs attention, and consideration of a larger sink with more space will definitely need to be taken into account.
Great location. Check-in was easy. There is a restaurant on the premises; however, the family room was disappointing. While it was clean, the aircon leaked onto the bed, and the shower was poorly designed as the shower curtain let water onto the bathroom floor. The towels provided were frayed. The double room we also booked was clean and well-kept.

Place was fine for an overnight stay. Very small though! And only one little basin - outside of both the kitchen and the bathroom, which was a little strange and not ideal. On the plus side, there was a pool and trampoline on the property, and a restaurant right next door, which was great! Small things like the basin, or no rooibos tea being available (there is always both of these offered at other places) maybe kept it from being worth 5 stars. Thanks for the stay though - the other outdoor facilities were a huge plus!

All in order for a comfortable overnight stay. I would only make a suggestion for access control at the narrow passageway next to the restaurant to the units. We tried to figure out where to check in, and were able to just walk through and move between units without anyone knowing we were there. Ran into a guest who explained us where to go. It's just a suggestion.
Reception was unprofessional and it felt like we got there untimely. The room was clean, bedding very neat and clean. The room needs some TLC to come up to standard. Would I stay there again - yes, because for the rate it is adequate. It would be good if the accommodation offered a (basic) breakfast option.

Fridge is built into a cupboard and has to be opened every time you want to take something out. The aircon needs a service as it makes a bad noise all night. The warm water tap was making a bad noise when opened. Unit 9 was great to stay in, but number 14 was not so great.

Beautiful room, wonderfully cool with air conditioning in the midst of severe heatwave conditions. Our stay was very pleasant and can definitely recommend it. The back road to the dam wall through the small villages is very bad and full of potholes.

There was a small kink in the cable. Gariep Inn did not receive the original reservation. When we got there we had to wait for the owner to arrive as she didn't know about the reservation. Apart from that, we had a great stay!

Recommendation for anyone.
Basic, clean room that meets requirements. The shower needs some TLC as the water leaks underneath the shower door. We had to put towels to keep the room dry. The shower drain is broken, so we had to put an anti-slip mat over it. Unfortunately, there was no parking available at unit 12. Also, there is no dedicated braai, only a shared braai for a few units.
The house was clean, nice braai area. Everything is there for a nice braai after a long day's driving. Will stay here again when we get the chance.

The manager at Tjailatyd (the restaurant at Gariep Inn) is rude. I actually want to type it in all caps. We spent more than 12 hours on the road, when we wanted to order takeaway to take to the room, then she fought with the waitress Kyla in front of us because we wanted to order take away. We waited 1 hour and 30 minutes for 3 pizzas. We chose to order takeaways because we started driving at 4 in the morning and didn't arrive at Gariep Inn until 5 in the afternoon.

This is an excellent stay-over venue that is affordable but offers 4-star accommodation. I love the neat and clean feeling of the premises and the room. The owners/managers are also very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this to anyone.

It is a self care unit, if one comes late they may have a small milk in the fridge, the shower head can be looked at and if possible, the post box where you drop the key if you have to drive after looking, you just try to stop by him and throw the key in and then drive, the little wall to the mailbox is a bit high and didn't see him and drove over him, maybe check there if I had to get out in the cold . Other than that it was nice and maybe the parking to look at.

I had a little trouble finding the place, my GPS drove me around the town a few times, but after I called the people I found out I was standing at the place. So I would like to recommend management put up another sign to the left of the OR. The place is neat, clean and well maintained and I would recommend the place anytime. The people manage their place well.

The only problem I encountered was putting the remote in the mailbox after opening the gate. Pulled my vehicle up close to the post box, opened the gate, threw key into the post box and in moving forward badly injured my car against a low wall which I drove down as I moved forward. The little wall was not visible at all from the vehicle, was afraid the gate would close too quickly and pulled close to the mailbox. Would recommend that guests go through the gate, park outside and walk in to drop the key in the mailbox. Left early.

Layout of room was not well thought out. Wasbakkie is e.g. in the room and not in the bathroom. Cutlery is packed open on a small table and there is hardly any space to put down your own coffee or sandwich or to pour a glass of wine.

Kitchenware very basic. Just good enough for a 1 night stopover between Gauteng and the Cape. Had loadshedding every 4 hours. No generator. Only very faint solar lights in the rooms. No mirror for a woman to blow dry her hair. Too few power points to use the mirror in the bathroom. Only plus point is the restuarant on the premises.

We only arrived after dark and left early the following morning. We did eat at the restaurant and were very happy with the quality of the food and the service. We would definitely be happy to stay there again sometime.
What you see is what you get. Cute restaurant with delicious affordable meals on site. Load power was no problem as there is a large generator. That was a big plus.
The resort looks very nice. My wife and I really enjoyed ourselves. The food, especially chicken livers with buns, was really tasty.

Unit no. 17 short attention due to maintenance. The walls' paint is peeling off. The swimming pool is unsafe, especially during load shedding, as it is not fenced. Small children can also easily fall into the pool.

The rooms are very good. Make use of the OK Food that is next door for your food. The Restaurant at Forever Gariep's pricing is ridiculous, and our waitress (Julia) at Tjaila Tyd Restaurant spoiled the whole meal and evening for us. Gariep Dam itself is a must-see for all.

Gariep Inn is conveniently located and the surprise was that the access route that day took us over Gariep Dam's embankment. It was damn hot and load shedding was in effect when we arrived, the restaurant was closed but the friendly staff at the OK shop next door were happy to sell us cold soft drinks and ice cream.
Have used the Inn many times and always find it good value for money. Great to have power during load shedding - which I didn't find in other places. Also, the restaurant is great to have alongside.
Would not stay there again, water for shower smelled like sewage and you could smell it outside, table on porch was full of spiders.
Check in process was quick and easy. . Due to loadshedding and Gariep Inn generator not being able to operate continously, experience was little uncomfortable due to the heat and "miggies". From 10pm onwards the generator was not operational at all and this resulted in a restless night sleep due to the unbearable heat. However we enjoyed the swimming pool and braai facilities.
The place is well furnished. There is a generator but unfortunately this could not keep up. We experienced frequent power outages and there was a period where none of the wall plugs in the unit worked. We can highly recommend the restaurant Rustic Pub and Grill.

As a result of an additional day in the Cape, I am forced to call Gariep Inn to find out if they can move our place to stay for an evening. There was no hesitation in helping us and within several minutes my change was confirmed. We were received very kindly after a very long day's drive back from the Cape, we were shown to our room. Beautiful, nice and clean with a small bar fridge and coffee and tea making facilities. Beautiful swimming pool right next to the room for the hot summer afternoons. Our dinner at the restaurant on the property was delicious and tasty and I would definitely recommend Gariep Inn. This is our regular "stop over" from the Cape back to Gauteng.
Very nice place. Loved the pool, was able to cool off. The chalet was compact but had everything you needed. Very well planned. The braai place was also a winner. Had a nice time there.

As before, we had a great time staying at Gariep Inn. The unit was adequate for our needs. Unfortunately, certain aspects of the accommodation need updating. The sheets were very washed out and thin, the mattress was slept through - my 14 year old son's mattress was only sponge, so the boards of the bed were clearly felt through the mattress. The gutter outside our unit was broken, causing loud running water all night. Basic maintenance work and updating is urgently needed.

Although the accommodation was very nice and we looked forward to resting there for the long journey the accommodation is certainly not load shedding friendly, you have no water if the power is out, can't drink water, use the toilet or anything , we got up just after 2 in the morning, loaded the car in the dark and drove because we couldn't sleep in the heat, also without being able to shower or use the toilet.

We have stayed there a few times over the years. Always been very satisfied. First time in room 11 and have to say that those beds must be replaced because they are rock hard, or kept out for people who request them. We couldn't sleep.

All the equipment one needs for overnight self care was available and in working order. The facility is spacious and comfortable. For the same price as sleeping 2 you can book a 4-bedroom and stay much more comfortable with storage space for suitcases and other items.
The facility is neat. The restaurant gives good food at reasonable rates. The generator provided electricity until 22:00. I would recommend it to the traveler who wants to sleep over.

Ideal for sleepovers. Service was friendly and fast and the beds were very comfortable. We had a nice rest after a long day of driving. Just a little constructive criticism: The shower is nice and big, but I hate shower curtains. The sink's cold water tap doesn't work and there is no storage space for toiletries - a shelf/box by the sink would do the trick. The bathroom door's lock protrudes slightly and catches in the frame when you open the door. A small table/work space next to the braai would also be good, just to have a bowl etc. to be able to put down. The table outside wobbles, but this can be easily fixed by pushing something under one leg.

Our stay was comfortable but most importantly our two dogs were accommodated, pet friendly is a rare find. Restaurant serves an amazing chicken schnitzel meal with the most delicious pumpkin and green beans. Drinks are also very reasonably priced. Small corner basin is awkward and shower toiletries were empty apart from conditioner. A bottle of water in the fridge but no milk, a small milk would be a good addition.

We really enjoyed our overnight stay at Gariep Inn. The place is very, very beautiful and so clean. It's a very quiet place to relax and enjoy everything you would be doing. The Owner is great and much helpful to the guests.

Compared to the place I previously stayed at in Gariep for R100 more, the room looked a bit outdated and like it needed a re-paint. The room was very stuffy and infested with mosquitos. No mosquito-repellent supplied. Probably the reason for being so stuffy because you can not open the windows for fresh air. The shower door was not able to close so the floor was covered in water. Was not shown the room by the host upon arrival, I had to collect the key from the restaurant and all she said was I was in room # and I do not have a designated parking and can park somewhere on the grass.

The stay was wonderful. The carpets in the room are dirty and could be thrown out instead. Older people can fall and slip on the carpets.
We traveled with our dogs and Gariep Inn welcomed us with open arms. Always stay overnight there on our trip from Cape Town to Gauteng, and back and would never recommend another place.
What a pleasant surprise to sleep over here. All and more that one needs. Next time we grill. Visit the well-equipped OR right there accordingly. From a camp chair to a fishing rod. Friendly guys who work there too. We will definitely stay here again.
Everything one needs was there: small fridge, kettle, coffee/tea station, air conditioning, bathroom with shower. Pool was pretty clean. Site is safe. The mattress can be replaced, since one rolls to the middle (unit 14). The restaurant was not open on Sunday late afternoon and evening, although it was a long weekend and we would have liked to eat there. So the other restaurant nearby was overcrowded and couldn't accommodate us.

Check in was seamless and staff always available to help. We were encouraged to look at the dam wall because the dam was full and it was breathtaking. We will definitely stay there again. It was also easy to leave early as keys were left in mailbox.

Vehicles can be parked safely and close enough to accommodation. And it is close to Gariep's dam wall if you want to make a trip there. So overall was definitely a place I would stop at again.

The noise that trucks make on the highway at night is very disturbing, but obviously not Gariep Inn's fault.
Met all our needs and more for a one night stopover en route to Gauteng. And on top of that lovely photos taken of the dam. The staff at the Tjailatyd Restaurant on the premises are very friendly and the food delicious.

The bathrooms are old. Shower heads are not there. One bed was definitely not cleanly covered. The blanket was crumpled and the bed full of crumbs.

We had to drive 3 hours in the morning to get to our destination. The power was out when we woke up, I called the cell number that was left for us and a lady immediately answered and said the whole town's power was out. She was friendly and helpful.

It is ideal to spend the night here on your way to the Eastern Cape. The place was clean but needs a lot of basic maintenance (paint etc.). Also no water when loadshedding hit us and we had to take the road without showering. For what you get, you pay a little too much.

Bed was comfortable for 1 night's sleepover. The restaurant is recommended. They had a generator that came in handy with the load shedding together. Unfortunately, the next morning he kicked in and went down again. We were told to drop the key in a post box at the gate but couldn't find the post box. The notice on the bathroom door again says it must be left in the chalet. It was a bit ambiguous.
The rooms are clean and tidy and adequately equipped for overnight stays. It's very convenient that there is also a restaurant on the same premises, we ordered food when we checked in and they just came and delivered it to our room, excellent service. Is close to the dam wall where we went to visit the next morning. Will definitely stay here again.

We are used to good sleeping places on the website. However, this place is neglected inside. no burglar bars or security gates at sliding door. Our air conditioning did not work and we did not even open a window through the night. Got about warm. Finishing of tiles is poorly done. There are still pieces of cement everywhere, I also took photos to send you. It just hasn't been done yet. So for sure I will not sleep there again.

Price is good, place neat and clean, but bed linen! Overall the place was neat and clean. When we opened the door for the first time there was a very distressed sweaty smell in the room. The bedding which is supposed to be white was yellow and very thin with age. The bedding did not smell fresh.
The ash bin in the overnight accommodation was full, therefore not cleaned. The sheet was clean but should have been replaced a long time ago - thin from all the washing. Larger towels may be considered. The fridge needs a good cleaning, especially the rack of the door.

Was surprised that we didn't discover the place earlier. We often sleep over in the Gariep area and this was the best for us yet. Extremely conveniently located, nice people, clean facilities and, I might add, also big enough so that you don't feel cramped. Also had a nice meal at the restaurant. It's a plus that it forms part of the setup, you don't always feel like driving to a place to eat after a day in the vehicle. Will definitely stay there again. We checked into one of their chalets and were not very happy with the bed. Think the rooms and beds of the chalets need a bit of an upgrade. Without hesitation, the manager offered us another room that was more expensive and very nicely upgraded for exactly the same price. Will definitely stay there again.

We usually sleep over at the Forever Resort or alternatively at the De Stijl Hotel. Neither of the 2 could provide us with overnight accommodation. We were very grateful to be able to get a place at Gariep Inn, although we prefer B&B accommodation. It is very unfortunate that Gariep Inn does not provide breakfast.
The first room we got for our trip to P.A. Number 10's TV didn't work. The second room, no 13 on the return journey, was very comfortable and everything worked well. The small fridge makes a terrible noise. It was so distracting that we turned it off during the night. It would be nice if there was a shelf in the shower to put things down, the same at the sink in the room. The restaurant is very cozy with the fireplace, but the service is hopelessly slow. We waited more than an hour for our food! Unacceptably long as there were only 3 tables occupied. It would be nice to be able to enjoy breakfast before starting the long road again.
Pleasant enough stay, in a neat and somewhat clinical yet comfortable room and environment. We had motorbike problems and didn't find the staff overly helpful in pointing us in the right direction for assistance. Also, no matter how many times I entered the Wi-Fi password, I couldn't get it to work on my phone. Food and service at the adjacent restaurant were good.
Room 12's porch just needs an outside light and the bedside light kept flickering when it was switched on. Probably a connection problem. Thank you.

Second time we spend the night here, very comfortable rooms, always clean and the children enjoy the pool.
Kitchen slightly inconvenient, too small for 4 people to sit and eat. We did have a barbecue outside which was nice. A shelf or two to put bags with clothes on would help, otherwise 4 people's bags and clothes are lying around on the ground. There are no cupboards, drawers or shelves to put things on. Otherwise, room was comfortable for overnight stay. Gates at entrance were both broken, gate on the side looks like someone pushed it open. Was a little worried about the safety of our caravan, but there was a guard at night. Please make the gates right. Air conditioning was fantastic, as was the pool. TV channels very limited but didn't really bother us. No WiFi in rooms which was inconvenient for teenagers especially. Advertisement should state there is not a view of the dam, but it is in the area and conveniently close to the dam.
The room was clean and cute, just what we needed for one night's sleepover. The air-con just didn't cool which will be a problem on warmer days and the one TV channel was only black and white. But other than that, everything was 100%.

Gariep Inn offers neat and simple self-catering units, ideal for overnight travellers. The Tsjailatyd restaurant is more of a sports bar than a restaurant, but the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Service was very friendly.

We welcomed the rest on the way from the Cape to Gauteng. Having dinner at the restaurant was a good option since we didn't arrive until early evening. We will definitely stay here again.
The door and air conditioner of number 5 need attention. Other than that, everything was wonderfully clean and a pleasure.

An ideal stopover for a family with small kids. Shops are a walk away and there is a small restaurant with a pub. The management and staff are very obliging. The boat trip on the dam is worthwhile and booking is done through Gariep Inn.

The kitchen facilities were not exactly sufficient to cook for a small family. There was dust/wool behind the bed, which shows that it has not been properly cleaned for a long time.
A lot of time and effort is spent on the exterior of the building to keep it tidy, unfortunately the same cannot be said of the rooms. The floor was dirty and the shower was dirty and leaking everywhere. The people made noise until late at night and the security gate for the premises was closed with a stone.
Eskom's unexpected power outages caught everyone off guard, but the other places could at least have provided for candles, which was not the case here.
Was lovely to sleep at a place after such a long journey, which has everything you need, the aircon was definitely a bonus in the heat. Very neat, could switch off nicely, safe and quiet.
Certainly perfect for overnight stays. Just a pity that no provision is made for when there is no electricity.

After a long day on the road, the overnight rooms were a real treat, quietly comfortable and quiet. We even took a dip in the pool. I recommend dinner at the restaurant, the food is of excellent quality and very affordable. Out and out had a very good experience, very good sleep. Maybe just a suggestion: a little fresh milk and a rusk with the coffee in the room would have been quite lovely.

Place is very neat and well furnished. However, cleaning services were not there on Saturday morning for clean towels and replacement of coffee. The main gate might give each guest a remote instead. Saturday evening there was no guard and the gate was blocked inside with stones. I was there for matric reunion and our function was at Forever Resort, and we got in around 23h00.

Very comfortable, clean, tidy accommodation. Bonus is restaurant that is on site, so after long day's travel we could eat deliciously and be in bed early.
We spent 2 nights in a self-catering room, the bed was comfortable, hot water was plentiful, we had no complaints. A mirror in the bedroom, and a bread board and braai tongs in the kitchen would be welcome.
It was very convenient for us, as it is about halfway between our house and Johannesburg. Such a family weekend for us and our children from Johannesburg.
Slept and ate well at Gariep Inn's restaurant. No problem with check-in or check-out. Is a very nice place for someone who just wants to sleep over before they take the road to Cape Town. They have a very nice "just sleep over" option, as we did. 6 am the next morning we could easily hit the road without bothering any other guests. Added to that, we towed the trailer back from Rouxville to Wellington a 6 am. There was plenty of room for us, as well as other guests who also had trailers. Will definitely stay at Gariep Inn again in the future.

Initially had problems with the bathroom lights in room 2's switch, but then came right. Thinking more attention can be paid to pre-inspections to make sure everything works in the rooms.
This is all the 3rd time we used Gariep Inn to sleep. Many improvements have been made in the meantime and they are still in process. The location makes it easy because it is located next to the restaurant and OK store if one needs something. The price is also well-stocked and I feel it's good value for your money.

We couldn't sleep. During our stay there was noise till 03:00 in the morning.
We were well and kindly received, but a few things bothered us. Pets belong at home and not at vacation spots. Dogs are not acceptable to all people. The unit is spacious and clean, but there is no storage or hanging space for clothes anywhere. Glass door to the shower will work much better than the curtain. The guests should be informed about noise after 10pm. We shared the resort with a bunch of men who made more and more noise the later. 04:00 the next morning there was still a loud conversation in rough language. The restaurant at Tjailatyd's service and food is excellent and very well presented.
The accommodation was clean and tidy. People had been kind. The double bed mattress is pretty much at its end, and they can look at replacing the mattress.

We arrived there about 4:00 and immediately got the key and became familiar with the bed for a while before we went to the restaurant. Spent rest of the evening peacefully watching TV.
My family and I were on our way to Plettenberg Bay and decided to split the journey and stay the night in Gariep. The Gariep Inn was such a lovely little gem. The location was convenient and we had all we needed for a comfortable night's rest. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Gariep Inn as a stop over or as a final destination for a relaxing break.

Overnight in Unit 1 and 2. 4 Pensioners. Unit 1: There was a smell in the bathroom and the fridge's freezer door was missing. Unit 2: our neighbors were playing loud music, the toilet/bathroom lights wouldn't come on, cockroaches were running under the sink, the kitchen cupboard doors looked very shabby.
Gariep Inn was just an overnight stay. Very clean and tidy and braai facilities were placed right in front of the door. Vehicle was safe and there was also a security guard throughout the night. Shop is right next to the place if you wanted to get meats or braai supplies. Gariep Inn was very helpful and very prompt service. Thank you for the hospitality.

Perfect oasis after a long journey.
Fortunately, just had to stay one night at Gariep Inn. The place is not recommended at all. The room was not clean. The bed linen was so old and worn that one didn't even want to sleep in the bed - we slept on the bed. My husband took the old blanket and covered the bed with it and I took the two old towels to cover it. The towels were worn and had to be replaced with the bed linen years ago. There was only one chair for 2 people in the room, and it was broken. The two pillows on the bed were full of lumps and the owner still asked you to pay for such a room. Never, ever again will Gariep Inn see us again!
We were in one of the more modern units (newly redone). Have a nice shower. Bed was slightly dusty. Calm and friendly atmosphere.
The accommodation is about halfway between Oudtshoorn and Johannesburg. It suits us perfectly and we will stay there regularly.

The pictures on the web page do not reflect the true image of the unit. The breakfast area is so narrow that it is uncomfortable to use for adults. Ceiling was not painted and not all lights worked. There was an unusable braai without grill.

We stayed at the Gariep Inn for 1 night, as a stopover on our way to Cape Town. Upon our arrival, we were kindly received by a lady at the Tjaila-tyd Restaurant, where we have to check in. We took a fridge and freezer with us - but we were in the Gariep much earlier than we had planned. Our request to just plug in the fridge or apply power was received without difficulty and they met us immediately. The room was spacious and tidy - exactly as advertised. We definitely got our money's worth. The whole atmosphere was relaxed and we could just rest, before we left early again the next morning. Parking was conveniently right in front of our room, and we didn't have a problem with parking for our van and stroller. We enjoyed a nice light lunch at the restaurant, it was freshly prepared and tasty. We will definitely stay there again.

Pillows were uncomfortable, could not open windows for security reasons and can't sleep, with air conditioning. Security was a concern as the gates weren't closed for the night. Neighbours were noisy until 01:30 in the morning, so no supervision in that regard. Meal at the restaurant was very good, fresh, hot and value for money. Checking-in staff friendly.

Very nice overnight place. Motor safe at chalet parking. The lady that received us was very friendly and offered a box of milk and bottled water free of charge since we arrived on a Sunday afternoon and places were already closed. Only negative part was the fact that we were not aware that the restaurant closed early on Sunday and opens Mondays only in the afternoon. It may have to be clearly mentioned on the website as we chose the place for the restaurant and thus did not have to drive far after the long trip.

Comfortable overnight stay with everything you need.
The room was neat, but the door has a big gap underneath which lets dust in and the floor is therefore always full of sand. There was also a slot in our door through which any person could peek and look on the bed. It was not pleasant. Day one, there was no hand soap or towel. Day two, there was soap and a towel, but no shower mat. Day three the towel was gone! The staff (waitresses) at Tjailatyd are extremely friendly and a real asset. Our neighbors also stayed for two days and played disturbing music on a mobile phone day and night. It wasn't nice. Furthermore, the place is neat and spacious and we appreciated the room service.
Chalet is well equipped with everything we needed. The large ice-freezer is a winner. Braai provided helped to be able to have fun braai and relax on the stoep. Will come again.
Next time we will come in summer so that we can enjoy all the activities that the Gariep Inn has.

The staff were friendly and even came to explain about the water break. They also warmed up our room before we arrived at 8.30 p.m, which was most welcome as it was freezing and shows that they care about their guests' needs and comfort. The restaurant and OK Grocery Shop on their premises is also a bonus, as you don't have to drive anywhere to get food and supplies.

Garipe Inn's rooms are spacious, clean, tidy and the linen durable. Really very good value for money. Parking is right next to the room. So you don't have to unload the whole vehicle. However, the open gate was a little worrying for us who come from Gauteng.
Gariep is only for overnight not for a weekend because there is nothing for the children to do.

Gariep Inn only exists in name now. Registration is at the restaurant/bar named Tjailatyd, close to Forever Resorts and next to the OK shopping centre. It is really a big frustration and the name change without directions amazes everyone, even at Gariepdam. Electric installation of electricity points at the accommodation is directly at the basin and tap - if someone gets electrocuted it won't be an accident. Inefficient use of limited scarce space. Tidiness is not a priority at all. Maybe bikers can stay there if they need cheap accommodation, but I cannot recomment it.

The apartment pleasantly surprised me. It was clean, tidy and everything was in working order. No broken glass, tiles, windows or dirty walls with marks on them. Braai facilities are available at the unit itself which multiplies one's options for relaxation. The unit is centrally located near a restaurant, supermarket and liquor store. Just a stone's throw from Gariepdam with a wonderful sunset to round off the day. In short, excellent value for money and located in a peaceful, beautiful setting.

Minuses: The shower in room 14's hot water faucet makes a tremendous noise - I thought the neighbors were drilling a hole in the wall when my wife took a shower. There is no holder for the toilet roll. There is no microwave and the small fridge is tiny. There are no easily accessible wall plugs for cell phones etc. not to load. The only sink is inside the room (outside the bathroom) with no towel rail. It should be used for dishes as well as personal hygiene. The mattress was just tired. Beware! The air conditioner's remote control turns off the TV! If you like your privacy, rooms 13 and up are not for you. Your room door looks right onto the pool.
Pleasantly surprised with the place to stay. Everything was clean and tidy and also no noise at night.
My husband and I have been staying at Gariep Inn every time we go to PE and when we come back home. It is safe and affordable to sleep over there. The service is excellent. Can recommend anyone to use their services.
This was our 3rd visit to Gariep Inn, but will not be back. The air conditioner in the room did not work and was replaced by a portable one (the motor of the air-con is on the inside). It made such a noise that we could not sleep, the fan in the room did not help either. We ordered take-aways from the restaurant and waited an hour and fifteen minutes for it. It does not seem like the facilities could handle the number of people.

This is the perfect stopover between Cape Town and Pretoria and is significantly cheaper than the Aventura resort at Gariep.
We stayed here on our way back from vacation and it was a really good decision. The rooms are modern and neat and the air-conditioning was quite a winner. The restaurant is directly next door and their food is delicious and well priced. Everything one needs is provided: a fridge, kettle, TV, aircon and an en suite-bathroom. There's a swimming pool if you'd like to cool off and it's just a minute's drive from the Gariep Dam which is a must-see.

We have stayed overnight in many places but still think this is the best place for anyone who wants to stay overnight on the way to Cape Town from Gauteng, especially if you have small children. The aircon and pool is a winner! Highly recommend it to anyone.
Nice clean, tidy and TV works well. Aircon lovely - on a negative note, the beds are awful. Crack, I slept 3 hours that night before driving back. Especially unit 2. Last time that unit was ok. But the time at no 2 beds were a problem.
I will definitely consider Gariep Inn in future. In the beginning I was very unsure when I saw their location, but when we gchecked in, I had a totally different opinion. It's a nice area. They are very friendly and considerate. Well done!
We were very tired, because we had already been on the road from the Western Cape for 10 hours. The cool pool was the first refreshing sight to greet us. The rooms are spacious and the bathrooms large and comfortable. The complimentary coffee was the ideal ending before we went to bed. Will book here again anytime!

After a long journey we had a little trouble finding the place. The nameplate was not very large. We were greeted very kindly and went to our room. Rooms are really neat and are more than we expected! With a calm and quiet atmosphere, we were able to rest well and continue our journey to our holiday destination.

We slept well and the air conditioning kept the room cool. The restaurant Tjailatyd has very good food and a nice atmosphere with very friendly staff. They just need to put extra wall plug in the room so that mobile phones can be charged and hair can be blow dried. There are no facilities for it, just the wall plug where the air conditioning is, which sits high on the wall.

Our overall experience was one of great disappointment. Following the photos and description, we were really looking forward to a quiet place to spend the night, where we could get enough rest and sleep after a long day on the road. Although we arrived very early (well before 14:00), we were kindly received and checked in quickly. The rooms are clean and tidy and facilities are sufficient for an overnight stay. What we did find uncomfortable was that the bathroom and toilet window is directly next to the "neighbour's" barbecue and socializing area. The gate and entrance area is also very busy until late at night/early morning which makes it almost impossible to sleep and get a good/necessary night's rest. Will definitely not use or recommend Gariep Inn again.
The rooms inside are really beautiful and spotless, with very good and white bedding. It was wonderful to spend the night in such a place after a long day on the road and be able to take a wonderful shower. I would definitely recommend it as a place to stay overnight. Rooms are very tasteful and well furnished.

It's now my third year that we spend the night at Gariep Inn. Never waited for my room, als was always right and tidy.
The place is neat and clean. We sat on our porch, ordered food and ate right there. We also slept well and will stay there again. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately we were expecting self-catering, but there was no microwave and only one plate. No cutlery or coffee/tea supplied.

The road from Gauteng to the Eastern and Western Cape is just too long and this was a great overnight stop where our dog was also welcome. Nice braai facilities right at the swimming pool in front of the rooms.

My husband and I were travelling on a bike trip and found the spot very convenient. There is a lovely restaurant close by and a grocery store for all your needs on your door step. The rooms were well decorated and sufficient in size plus very clean and tidy. We would definitely book in there again if we passed by on our way to the Eastern Cape again.

Positive: affordable, well located, slept well. Negative: room needs renovation (walls look dirty). There was only a small amount of toilet paper on the roll. Furniture is basic and rickety. Summary: comfortable place to spend the night on the Cape.

My biggest problem was that there was no hot water. The other guests in the chalets experienced the same. The besurer did not respond to sms. There were also no teaspoons in the chalet, how are you supposed to make coffee.

Gariep Inn was a very disappointing start to our holiday. The room was very, very small and the grounds didn't look anything like what is on the site. Also the beds were very hard. My feeling is that it would be great for couples with young kids, but we were friends travelling together and felt a little uncomfortable in such a small space. The shower head in our unit was coming out of the wall and made for a difficult shower as it was directed at the wall. There was no enclosed space for our dog, which was rather annoying as all the dogs roam freely and could easily run into the main road if not careful. This also upset some of the staff as they were very nervous about our doggie and would come to our room to deliver our food. All and all I would rather stay elsewhere as there are a good selection of better places in the area in the same price range.
It was a perfect overnight stay. The chalet had everything we needed. Highly recommended.
Coreen was most helpful and accommodating. However, the walls are thin and our neighbours were at it until late. My children were perturbed and very taken aback by the experience, and we couldn't wait to hit the road the following day. Also, it was rather hot, and although the aircon was in working order it gave off a horrible smell. We couldn't open any windows either due to the lack of security. I will probably not consider the Inn in any future travels.

We got lost from the Cape and had to find another place to stay. So we lost our money.
The friendly late at night reception after a difficult day is really appreciated! Affordable, comfortable and clean accommodation which makes it easy to return to.
My stay was only for the night, so I cannot comment on a longer term, in any case we are very satisfied and will use the accommodation again.
After we travelled for 12 hours and stopped at Gariep-Inn late the evening, we were so tired and really just wanted to take a bath and go to sleep. From the moment we pulled up it was only a pleasure. From the reception, to the service, to the facilities, to the clean and convenient rooms, everything was perfect! I think it's a bit expensive for 2 people, great customer service, polite and nice, room very clean and tidy, nice decor, just feels very at home. The location is good. Will definitely stay there again or even take a vacation.

We stayed at Bokmakierie 40. The place smelled like it was not cleaned in months, there were dangerous screws sticking out of a drawer, bathtub was dirty, security was poor, towel rails were either broken or just not there, oven didn't close, fridge was unstable and the towels had holes in them.

We were so impressed with our stay at Gariep Inn on the way to our journey to the Cape that we booked it on the way home 14 days later. Both times we enjoyed our stay in Chalet 1. Each of the chalets have their own built-in braai with a table and chairs outside where you sit and enjoy it in peace. The chalet was very clean and tidy and had everything you need to be self-sufficient. We will definitely stop there again. Thank you Gariep Inn.

About 6 times a year we head to the Western Cape and Eastern Cape from Tzaneen in Limpopo. Gariep Inn provides all the necessities and it's a fantastic stopover destination. We have access to all the facilities within walking distance from our room. Clean shops and an affordable restaurant is the icing on the cake!

Unit 1 wasn't as clean and neat as Unit 4 a week before. Children of other guests kicked up a racket throughout the night so we had to pack our things and leave between 2 and 5 in the morning. No rest. No freezer section in the fridge.

Folks, Gariep Inn is the perfect destination to stay between Cape Town and Johannesburg. The accommodation there is absolutely fantastic. You feel welcome from the moment you arrive and you try to delay the departure time as far as possible. I will stay there again and again and again! Your service and facilities are great!

The braai facilities are inadequate: no braai tongs and braai had not been cleaned. There were crisp papers and empty bacon packets in one of the drawers from a previous resident. The TV's reception was very poor and was white and black. I had to wash a pot before I could use it and there was no dish cloth or scourer.
The Luxury rooms had not been luxury and the beds had not been clean either.

Our overnight accommodation at Gariep Inn was very convenient. The houses are extremely clean. Thailatyd definitely has the best pizza in SA! The OK supermarket has everything you might need, even quality meat!

Gariep Inn is only suitable for overnight stays. There are no facilities for dinner or breakfast. Unit 12: No "no smoking" sign in the room and one can smell that people have been smoking there. The sink in the room is for the cups and cutlery as well as for washing and shaving. The room is neat but poorly equipped such as e.g. no table or chairs.

Apartment is fully equipped with everything needed for 1 night's stay. Would definitely recommend. Just not sure about the security of the vehicle because the gate was open all night and not sure if there is security around.
The unit was very neat and clean. Can maybe only recommend for a wardrobe. There is a small shop and restaurant right on your doorstep. We would have liked to visit a small gift shop, but there was none (there was a sign but no shop). The route to Gariepdam itself is breathtakingly beautiful and just around the corner. So many viewpoints and then even at the dam where we could walk around or barbecue.

We only stayed one night, but there is friendly help and clean rooms. Can recommend for about two nights. There's just not much to do for the kids if you want to spend the night at the place itself for longer than two days. If you have no children, it is very nice accommodation and the restaurant has excellent meals.
First, our room that we booked is not available. Then they gave to "better" room which was more expensive. We arrive an hour early and the woman complains that we are early, but gives the key anyway. Don't say welcome or anything. The room was no better then, because it was their chalet which is basically a "bachelors flat". I then slept a little and woke up with such a body ache that I could never last a whole night. We then just got up and drove on through the night. The bed was very weak. There wasn't even a bar of soap at the sink. We only found out later that the only soap in the place was in the shower, in a "dispenser". You have to use a huge amount of imagination to see how the photo on LekkeSlaap is the same place we stayed. Stay far away. Gariep Inn, your personal service will need to improve greatly. You cannot try to run a corporate guest house in a small place. Be friendly, walk to the room together, show people around. Ask if something is short and put a paper in the room with a questionnaire. Personally, I will not use you again.
We enjoyed it all. Only one problem. No 1 double room's curtains are transparent and there is therefore no privacy at night. We had to hang a blanket to block the lights shining from outside and thus showing us to everyone.

After travelling in the hottest day of the year we hoped for a swim only to find the pool a pea green. Modern features but no soap in the dispenser.
Very nice stay at Gariep Inn. We also slept over on the way back from the Cape. Stayed in one of the new rooms, very tidy with good beds, linen etc. The only negative is that there is no mirror above the sink, so it's hard for men to shave, but otherwise it's 100%. We will stay there again and have already highly recommended it to friends and family.

The facilities were more than adequate for our overnight stay in Gariep. Would even recommend it for a few days stay.
Very good experience. Clean rooms love the pool. All that bothered us a bit was the time we could check in. Left Bloemfontein early to escape the heat, but had to wait in the heat anyway for our keys. Also love the Gariep Inn will definitely come again. Thank you very much.
We were received quite well, but the reception is part of the restaurant which was busy and it does not work well. The room was quite clean, but some of the bedding was not clean. The bin in the kitchen was still full of rubbish from the previous guests and the air conditioning didn't work either. Towels were clean but old and frayed.
Gariep Inn is comfortable overnight accommodation and we will definitely stay there again. It is very clean and tidy and the service was excellent.

Very nice units with beautiful rooms. Our 13 year old child traveled with us and forgot to take a mattress with us. I only booked a room with a double bed but got permission in advance to bring a mattress for him which I had forgotten. Staff were very helpful and immediately arranged a mattress for me. Rooms are beautifully clean. Had a delicious breakfast there instead of Drive to Colesberg where it would be busy. Beautiful blue pool with green grass. Amenities are very nicely maintained. All that was a problem at Gariep Inn is the fridge that doesn't get cold. They responded quickly and brought a new one, but the new one didn't cool either.
There was not a fan in the room as advertised.

The administration and communication were excellent! We were greeted by very friendly staff and immediately felt welcome. The house was very neatly furnished and spotlessly clean. The place I got to stay in and the internet ad didn't match! The bedding (sheets were not clean) the bath mat had been septic. The place is just good enough for overnight stay for travelers who do not require high standards.
Stay was pleasant, but the whole setup at the dam is deteriorating. Doesn't look like maintenance is done and it's very sad dam is one of the famous resort.
We will spend the night there again or maybe stay longer.
The place is currently a construction site and one cannot sit outside without staring at construction material / debris. The accommodation is not the cleanest and the equipment is inadequate. Avoid the place!

We don't know the area at all, are from Malmesbury and looked for and found affordable accommodation. Was really value for money. Neat, clean and very comfortable. The accommodation was good and I will use it again as a stopover on the way. Attention may only need to be given to the following and will perhaps be resolved even after the construction itself: The wire behind the extensions is loose and anyone can walk in there - not feeling safe. Initial stay "smelled" badly of smoke inside, but luckily we got another unit because lock didn't work. There was no hot water, but it was soon rectified when we mentioned it (fortunately found out the night before to be able to take a bath/shower in the morning before leaving).
The overnight facilities were very neat and comfortable. Just sorry about the activities that were a bit difficult during our stay, but I understand that additional accommodation must be created.

We only stayed the night on our way to Montagu. Gariep Inn has been busy with renovations to most of the units and when completed it will be pleasant.
It's very nice clean and tidy. Nothing more needed for a night's sleepover. With the restaurant nearby, we didn't even have to cook. Nice meal next to the fireplace. Thank you all - it was nice to stay there.
Upon our arrival there was a problem with the water supply to our unit, but they moved us to a much larger house quickly and at no extra cost. Very good service.

We spent the night here on 2 occasions. Every time it was clean and tidy and the reception great, even after hours.
It is pet friendly which is important to us for our little dog. Tjailatyd Restaurant which is part of the complex offers good food at reasonable prices.
It meets exactly what we required - just overnight accommodation.
The place is small, but you couldn't ask for better. It has everything you need for a nice overnight stay if you venture the long way. Even the children were surprised and enjoyed it very much. The restaurant's staff is friendly with a tasty menu for the hungry. Of all the places we've slept over, this one was tops!

The cottage we stayed in was very well equipped. It has everything you need. The sleeping facilities were very good, as was the relaxation, regarding the lounge etc. The only problem we had is that the house provided to us does not look like it does in the picture. And the reason I gave security a 2 was because there were no locks on the gates at all. We heard from residents that the area is very safe, but you only have that extra peace of mind when there are locks around the gates (eg workers just walked into the yard to pick up the rubbish). I don't think it was that big of a deal, but for people (like us) who are used to locking everything up it was a reasonable adjustment. I would recommend the accommodation (just bring your own locks).
We checked in very late and left very early again, but will definitely use Gariep Inn again for an overnight stay.
We were not housed in the accommodation in the advert. We were about 2 km from the restaurant. The dust bin had a lid missing. One bedside lamp wasn't working. One bedroom fan not working. One globe missing in one of the rooms.

There were unpleasant characters hanging around, we were even scolded while we were still on our way to the place of residence. Had to look for other accommodation at great cost even though we had already paid in full. Management did not even offer to refund part of our stay, although we had already paid the full amount.
I had a great time staying at Gariep Inn! The reception was very friendly and the bar close by. It definitely helps if you don't want to cook yet either. The area is also very quiet and I would definitely stay again!

The unit was very clean and tidy. However, the bed was very uncomfortable, very hard. There are no chairs in the unit to sit and watch TV or just relax. You need to lie on the bed for this. The towel rail in the bathroom was hanging loose. Small details need attention.
No complaints except the grasshoppers that swarmed the grass. Otherwise no complaints. We were kindly received and the unit was spotlessly clean. A large freezer and fridge - we really appreciated it! I forgot my handbag with all my cards and large amount of cash in the unit the morning we drove to Bethulie. The cleaners came in the morning while we were away, put everything away and nothing was taken from my handbag! Many thanks to the people who cleaned, you deserve a big thumbs up, remember I'm from Gauteng! Should I travel in the direction again, I will definitely stay at Gariep Inn!

I found collecting the key from the bar rather inpersonal and bizarre. It was a self-help situation. The beds we slept on in Room 8 were some of the worst I have ever slept on and I almost needed to go and see my chiro afterwards. Never again!
The location is very convenient, unfortunately not with a pond view, but the Pub & Restaurant right next door makes it convenient to get something to eat and drink after a long drive. The shop also right next door makes it convenient to quickly get something for the road before you leave again the next morning. Unfortunately, the unit we were in was a little neglected, and not very tidy.

Upon arrival we were very disappointed, it was not at all what we expected. The biggest disappointment was the pool. We were on a hot road of 42°C all day and all we were looking forward to was relaxing in the nice pool as in the photo. However, it was grass green and dirty. What a disappointment! The unit was also very old. Definitely would not recommend or ever stay there again.

Pleasant cottage that meets all requirements for an overnight stay. Air conditioning was a pleasant surprise.
Although suitable for overnight stays, the unit is not well maintained and is not suitable for two adults and 2 teenagers actually sharing a room. The ceiling in the bathroom is falling down and the dining table is too small for 4 people. Reception was very unfriendly.
When I booked I was informed that a maximum of 4 people could stay in a unit and they were not willing to put a mattress in one for my youngest. As a result we then had to book two rooms because there were 5 of us. When we got there, one camper had a double bed and the other had a double, single and a bunk bed in it! So enough room for 5. I feel put in and will never stay there again. Furthermore, the larger of the two rooms was not in good condition, the roof looked like it was going to cave in at any moment.

From the moment I checked in to checking out is an experience I never want to experience again. Unfriendly, unhelpful people. We were barely greeted. The house we stayed in had power out when we got there. After that someone was called out to come and look at it, the gentleman didn't even say hello after we as guests first made the effort. The lady who took us to the house left without saying goodbye, just screamed from the window leave the key in the house if you leave tomorrow - completely unprofessional! The one air conditioner that worked was falling apart. The kitchen was dusty and not at all equipped for self-catering. The unit is supposed to accommodate 6 people, but there are only 2 glasses, 4 plates and mixed knives and forks. We were bitten and bothered all night by bugs that were in the mattresses. One of the teenagers was covered in red bite marks when we decided to drive instead in the middle of the evening. I myself work in the tourism industry, and by my standards it is not at all acceptable to be treated like this or to receive the poor quality of service and accommodation.

The facilities are value for money. We have stayed at Gariep a few times and at other establishments that are more expensive and that offer the same as "Green Doors".
Please advise all travellers that 'Green Doors' have changed their name! We travelled up and down the road and could not find 'Green Doors'. We stopped at a Pub to enquire and were told they are trading under another name.
The facility is very clean and safe. The pizza at the adjacent restaurant is incredibly tasty and fresh. We will use Green Doors again in the future.

The house we were in was exceptionally neat at all times. The bed linen and towels always smelled good. I would use or recommend the accommodation again myself.

The sheets on the beds were not all clean - some did not have all the soap washed out - i.e. there were large soap stains. Otherwise everything was fine.
It is an excellent place to stop over on the way to Johannesburg.
Our neighbors' TV was on until late at night, and we wanted to sleep early because we wanted to drive back to Cape Town the next morning at 04:00. We were in Unit 2, and the neighbors TV must have been on the adjacent wall because it was really distracting. The rest was perfectly acceptable.

The room was quite big (family room). It was clean and had air-conditioning. However, the walls are very thin so you can hear everything the neighbors are saying. Because of this, I'd say it's okay for a 1 night stay. Directions could be better.
