Neat, spacious, nice view, yes everything you need on a far and remote beach. Mobile internet reception was a surprise. Really nice - although the drivers could improve her friendliness somewhat.
One tip would be to install more shade over the campsites.
The owners, Emdi and Jasper, Marietjie, the resort manager, and their team of workers are absolutely incredible people. We had bad luck on our way to Hondeklip Bay and upon our arrival at Honne-Pondokkies everyone was there to welcome us, lend a hand to set us up. Genuine South African heartthrobs!
Unique secluded region of the West Coast. The dirt road from Garies was in bad condition.

It was very convenient and we will definitely use them again. The cottages were very neat and there was nothing we lacked. We would have liked to stay longer.
The place is suitable for an overnight stay, but too cramped for a long-term stay.

Marietjie was there to welcome us and explain the setup. Everything we needed was there. We only found the staircase going up to the top two beds a bit awkward - not that we used it but it takes up a lot of space in the main ground floor area.
The caravan is indeed for the adventurous. It is also clean and tidy with everything you need.
Considering the price this is a good value option. Clean and comfortable with an extremely helpful host - nice layout inside and the freezer is a bonus. Only drawback was the shower with gas geyser which was set far too cold for the temperature of the time of our visit and instructions preventing one from turning it higher. All in all, not a bad experience, toilet convenient and functioning, yard kept spotlessly tidy, and great access to the Namaqua park and coastal drive to Kleinzee with abundant flowers - a pleasant visit.
We had a great time. Jasper made us feel right at home. We saw beautiful flowers and the view by the sea was picture perfect. Even photographed fur seals on the rocks.

We had a great stay, everything is nice and tidy. The furniture is just very old, I would suggest getting nice and comfortable couches in the TV room, which would make it convenient to watch TV. We really enjoyed the indoor braai, it is out of the wind and weather and you can still have a nice view from the braai area.

Water is a problem, in the morning I could only take one shower then the water is finished.
Pondokkies 7 was the best, very private and good for dogs. Jasper and Emdi (MD) were very helpful and did their best to help when town was left without power and water over Christmas. The workers there are also excellent! My favorite was the curry noodle salad at the Shack.
It's in a really remote and exciting area and I'd fully recommend it for someone who wants a coastal quiet getaway.
The leg of the single bed was broken and when we came back to sleep that night the gas stove was leaking and we had to open all the windows to let the gas out before we could sleep, there were also barbecues from the previous guests in the oven left.

We did not feel welcome at the place at all, no one to receive us. By chance we saw on LekkeSlaap's reservation that we were staying in no. 2. The key was left in the door. Although the place is clean and tidy I can recommend that the showers be upgraded and done away with shower curtains. The yard and playground are neat and clean.
Just wish there was access to gas for when power is out.

We wanted to go and see what Hondeklip Bay looks like. Because it is a fairly long road and the last part is a dirt road, we decided to stay the night and leave again the next day. Our stay at Honne-Pondokkies was clean and tidy, everything in the chalet that is needed, we had a nice stay. The drivers are also very friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back again.

Hondeklipbaai is a beautiful village. Honnepondokkies are safe, tidy and Emdi and the staff are very friendly. If you want to rest from the hustle and bustle, this is the place for you. We thoroughly enjoyed it.
Emdi and Jasoer were the perfect hosts. The unit is brilliantly equipped with everything you need. There is even a brush to paint your pike that you want to grill. Clean, tidy and very comfortable with a view of the sea. Nice close, walking distance from all restaurants in the area.
For the hot weather a standing fan will be needed.

We were kindly received. Plekkie met our needs for just 1 night. The bed was not so comfortable - when my husband moved, the bed bounced like a trampoline. Unfortunately, no restaurant was open. We arrived there on Sunday afternoon.

The directions are very confusing. Nowhere is it mentioned that you should not follow the GPS/Google Maps and if it is turn right turn right. We drove a 3 hour turn on dirt road, stoksiel alone in the park. Would suggest that those directions be taken down and redone. Follow N7 between Springbok and Garies, turn onto the tarmac road at Klipfontein. Continue for 101 km, tar becomes dirt road. When you get into Hondeklip Bay then the road splits. Go right on pavement to dirt road and road turns right. Honne-Pondokkies on the left.

Honnepondocks are tidy, the staff helpful and friendly. Everything is in the accommodation that is needed to make the visit enjoyable. Sea view too. And close to the beach to slip off quickly for a walk and a swim.

After a very long dirt road, we were received very matter-of-factly with many rules even before we set foot. The town had already been without water for two and a half weeks and understandably water was extremely precious and we had to work very sparingly. This is in no way Honne-Pondokkies' fault, but I would have greatly appreciated it if they had informed me of this in advance to be prepared for the circumstances.
Very cute place. Beautiful view of the ocean. With our booking, we asked regarding breakfast and we were informed that they offer breakfast and we just had to pay on arrival. On arrival, we were informed that they don't do breakfast during the flower season and unfortunately, breakfast would not be offered. Would just have liked that the information is confirmed with the client ahead of time and not on the day of arrival.

We booked to camp for two nights at Honne-Pondokkies, but on arrival a strong, cold wind was blowing (cold front at tail end of winter and our tent's zip had broken!), so our host kindly offered us a Pondokkie that was available due to a Covid cancellation which we gladly accepted. The following night we were accommodated in another unit too for the same reasons. Both Pondokkies were very comfortable and well equipped. The entire property is very clean and well maintained. We can highly recommend this property to other guests wishing to visit this lovely stretch of the coastline. Thanks again, Emdi, for everything.
Our vehicle gave problems and had to be repaired on Vredendal - we did not feel comfortable venturing on the road to Hondeklip Bay in case the vehicle gave problems again. We called and let them know, but understood that it was short notice and that no refund was possible.

The houses are of high quality and I must emphasize that whoever built the log houses knows how to build a log house. The people are very nice and friendly in the town and the restaurant food is delicious. It is definitely good value for money and I can confidently recommend the place.

We spent the night in Brakkenjan, a caravan which is well equipped with a tiled porch in front which houses a freezer as well as a table with benches which is very comfortable. Suggestion is that the gas stove in the caravan may also be moved out to the stoep. Definitely the linen is not up to standard, and needs replacement. Otherwise it's a beautiful place and I would definitely recommend it.

We stayed in Pondokkie 2 and were so disappointed that we could only last 2 nights before heading back to Kleinzee. It's right on the road, no curtains in front and everyone walking down the street could see you inside at night. The room closest to the playground has black mold on the roof, the pillows are moldy and some clever person put the power plug on the wall right behind your pillow (a bit of a hazard when I look at it that way). The second bedroom was better but the floor was dirty with sand etc. The showers do not work properly and the drainage is really not good. The shower drain bubbles all night and doesn't smell good. In addition, there is a door between Pondokkie 1 and 2 and my neighbor and I could clearly hear each other through the door. Very unpleasant.

GPS does not work around Hondeklip Bay. Power failure the next morning with no water because water pump works with electricity. (I posted the wrong comment at Dis Al on MacDougalls Bay and had a very nice stay there.) Vehicle safety was a bit of a problem, because the neighborhood watch recommended that we remove everything from the vehicle due to previous burglaries.
Thatched wooden house. Nice warm atmosphere, unbeatable reception and helpfulness. Perfect overnight, or even longer, stay that has everything you need. And the gas shower works so you don't actually notice it's gas. Thank you very much, it was short, but we'll be back!
We were warmly received by Mariekie upon our arrival at Honne-Pondokkies, she went out of her way to try and arrange a meal for us at the restaurants. We enjoyed a delicious, totally affordable breakfast, looking out over the sea, on our veranda the next morning, prepared by Emdi, no effort was spared. An enormous amount of effort has been put into each Pondokkie's "face" and around the pool, which makes you feel even more "at home". We will recommend Honne-Pondokkies to any persons at any time. We had two reservations at Honne-Pondokkies, but on our first visit no reservation was made for us even though we paid 2 x R800 for 2 pitches each time. After a long search, we then found another place to sleep for the first reservation. The next one did happen without incident.

This novel caravan stay has everything you need, including electricity, for a comfortable self-catering stay. The only addition, and one that I believe would justify the fairly high price for a lone traveler, would be private ablutions adjacent to its site.

The dirt road there is a bit of a challenge with a regular car. It is a great holiday destination and the accommodation and surroundings make it worth it. Will definitely do it again. The accommodation is excellent and the staff very helpful.
Audrey is a gem and welcomed us very kindly and made us at home. Emdi and Johan were so kind to rescue us from the sand when our vehicle got stuck, thanks again for that, we still laugh about it. The accommodation was very comfortable and we enjoyed every moment there. If we are ever in that area again, we will definitely stay there again. Highly recommend Dog Kennels for any traveller.
Very handsome, yet comfortable. Shower is gas, a bit difficult to regulate. Did our laundry for cheap. Ideal for short term stays.
Although the kitchen is rather large and well equipped, the bedroom is very, very small. No space for suitcases or anything else and no accessible plugs for charging of phones. Although a 3 bar heater was supplied the cord was very short and only one bar worked which was rather insufficient during a very very cold night. Due to the small size of the bedroom, the heater could not be deployed without leaving the door open, which defeats the object of heating the bedroom. The covered stoep with a view of the ocean somewhat compensated for the shortcomings. However one thing needs urgent attention, the mattresses were shambolic, it felt like one nearly fell through, much too soft or old, and the mattress was only covered by a fitted sheet which slipped off the mattresses countless times compelling us to sleep on the naked mattress.
A 4x4 is needed to get to the place. Wish someone had forewarned.

We experienced the road to Hondeklipbaai very badly due to low profile tires on our vehicle. Also arrived at the wrong Honde-resort - didn't know there are 2 separate resorts. We were well received at Honde-Pondokkies, but Pondokkie 7 was a disappointment.

The 30 or so kilometers before Hondeklip Bay are not great, but once you get there the drive makes sense. You can have a really good rest and enjoy life there again. Honne-Pondokkies is definitely not 5 star accommodation, but it is the very best value for money I have ever found. It is clean, comfortable and nobody bothers you. We have been there 2 times now and will definitely go back again.

We stayed two nights in Hondeklip Bay. The Honne pondokkie was comfortable, tidy and had everything that was needed. We were received kindly, and immediately felt at home.
Cottage has everything needed, mosquito nets, especially upstairs, can help.

Hondeklip Bay is not the most beautiful place on earth, but the silence and beautiful sea, sand, rocks, shells and vegetation capture your soul. The long way to get there was worth it. The accommodation is neat and Emdi and Audri, her right hand, were very friendly and helpful.
We were very well received and even got help with booking a restaurant for dinner. The cottages are very neat and well equipped with gas, which helped a lot during the power outage. I would recommend Honne-Pondokkies anytime and would love to stay there again myself.
Accommodation was excellent and surroundings beautiful. For August months, pack warm clothes. The unit is a bit dark especially if older people want to read in the evenings. Will definitely stay there again.
Hondeklipbaai is a very interesting little place. You come across cute characters with different life stories to tell. As someone from North West, it was lovely to hear the ocean. We had a nice time cycling.

Now that was really very special. We had a great time and the Pondokke will definitely see us again, but this time for much longer. There is really nothing short in the unit and we really enjoyed it. Many thanks to Petro for making the stay so pleasant, she is really a special person.
Apart from management coming out quickly to change the batteries of the gas geyser, it still only gave hot water for 8 seconds. Basic amenities are provided, but the place and the photos are not at all the same. One got the feeling that it was quite close to the beach, but that was not the case. For R800 you probably couldn't have expected more.
We stayed in Honne-Pondokkie 2. The toilet in one of the rooms was totally open in the corner of the room and there was water coming out the toilet bowl the whole time. The stop cock didn't work, so it left us sleepless hearing the water running the whole time in a water restricted area without being able to do anything about it.
Friendly welcome. So wanted an electric kettle instead of gas stove.
We arrived early and were able to unpack in our cottage which we really appreciated. Shower curtain bothered a bit. Cell phone reception was not good. Have a nice time, thank you.

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Honne-Pondokkies. The cottages are well equipped, and very neat and clean. Water tanks and gas geyser and gas stove ensure that you can still shower and cook, even if the town's power and/or water is off. (Something that happened quite often in the two weeks we were there). I would recommend anyone traveling in that direction to stay overnight at Honne pondokkies, you won't regret it.

Clean, tidy with all the facilities needed. We enjoyed our stay. We were lucky that both restaurants in town were open during our visit and we had a great time at the Rooi Spinnekop. The new tarred road through Klipfontein makes a big difference in the distance spent on the dirt road.

The facilities were good, with everything you need, but unfortunately there was an unpleasant smell possibly coming from the drains.
We had to find accessible accommodation to visit Namaqua National Park and looking at the map we decided that Hondeklipbaai looked well situated... and that it surely was. About 3 hours from Skilpad and the same from Groenrivier. The chalets are quaint and unusual, well furnished and clean. Could be a bit crowded with 4 adults but suppose most visitors would come in summer and then be outside.
We enjoyed our stay and eating out at the delightful nearby establishments.
The road there is very corrugated. A non fourwheel vehicle has to drive slowly, but it was worth it.
We were hoping to enjoy the Namaqua National Park but the drought has hit Hondeklipbay hard. We enjoyed our stay but see why most only stay one night, you can explore the area in one morning. But the accommodation was superb.

We had traveled from the Richtersveld since the morning and were very much looking forward to a meal at one of the most famous restaurants in Hondeklip Bay. On arrival around 17:00 we had to learn that no restaurant was open that night. Mercifully, the owner of Honne-Pondokkies came to our rescue with a delicious pike. We had a great barbecue that evening at the boma and were able to end the day on a positive note. Thanks to Johan and Emdi.
We were kindly greeted with lots of information, what a privilege! We grilled delicious fresh lobster tails later that evening right in front of our little pond with an ice cold glass of champagne that we received as a Valentine's Day gift ─ thank you very much! While the sun was setting over the sea, what a fantastic Valentine's Day we didn't have at Hondeklip Bay, thank you very much again!
The place is comfortable and clean. Just a pity one side of the double bed is against the window and there is only one bedside lamp.

Hondeklip Bay is approximately 90 km on a gravel road from Garies and 200 km from Springbok. Petrol and diesel are available in Koiingaas, which is approximately 22 km from Hondeklipbaai. Guests will find 3 restaurants in this quaint village.
