Upon arrival it was clear the property needs a lot of maintenance. It is very run-down. We stayed in one of the cabins. A lot of items in the unit itself was broken, damaged, or dirty. Luckily we checked the inventory as most of the kitchen utensils and cutlery was missing, or not supplied. I mean 1 plate and 2 forks (to name a few) for a cabin that sleeps 6. The staff was helpful to sort this out but it begs the question how thorough the general admin of the units are. Other units also don't comply with the rules, and we spent an entire evening listening to the cabin-nightclub next to us, with staff trying in vain to get our neighbours to quiet down. We made the best of the trip, but if it wasn't Easter weekend with most other accommodations booked up, we would have requested relocation.
Was a pleasant visit. Kitchen can be upgraded just a bit. And the taps for kitchens and showers need to be fixed.
We stayed in one of their log houses. It was very neat, but definitely needs upgrading. What worried me was the location and that you might possibly pick up problems in terms of dissension between neighbors right behind the resort as well as noise. We were lucky, had no problems, but won't take the risk again.
We enjoyed our stay.
The linen and towels are old and not very clean. The overall bungalow was not cleaned properly daily.
Overall, our experience of Jock Sabie Lodge was very positive. The staff is very friendly. The facilities are neat and clean. It's centrally located close to all the attractions. One suggestion is that care is taken to adhere promptly to the terms and conditions at all times. All guests sign for the same and if concessions are made on the terms and conditions it makes the stay unpleasant for other guests (in our case where we had to listen for 2 hours and 30 minutes to someone else's music blaring loudly from their vehicle near our unit played). Other than that, our experience is positive and we will definitely consider staying here again.
On the first night we had no bathmat, a broken bedside light and a very worn duvet. Breakfast the next day was poor with stale fruit salad and insipid "orange" juice. We complained. The next night we had a bathmat and a better duvet but no towels and had to raise the manager late at night. The acrylic bath was very dirty and worn and needs replacement. The cost of the stay far exceeded value for money and I would not recommend the Lodge. I reckon that we should get a refund of at least 50% back. The gardens are attractive.
We asked for a self-catering room but there was no kitchen, we needed stoves, plates, utensil etc. And worse, in one of the rooms we booked into there was no hot water. Your towels are old and your bedding as well, maybe you could try changing your bedding into white. I paid a lot of money but not everything was on standard.
We were referred here after our chalet at a different place in Sabie was so bad that we couldn't stand the thought of staying overnight. The room at Jock Sabie Lodge met the minimum standards, but does not deserve more than 2 stars. I can highly recommend Shawn at LekkeSlaap though. He did everything in his power on a Sunday afternoon to find us alternative overnight facilities. He is definitely an asset.
The TV was broken. The costs for the cottage are not justified. The electric fence was broken. The gate guard's service was not thorough. I think the management failed to thoroughly inspect the place before customers entered. TV was very important in keeping the teenage children occupied. The pool was green and slippery. Thanks to the management who then offered a free breakfast, but then the sausage and cheese sausages ran out. It's poor planning for weekend guests, who weren't that many at all, since we were the only ones in the wooden houses.
The staff are all very nice and helpful, and it was lovely to be able to just rest for two days. I would recommend the place to anyone who just wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
