I am so pleased to have found Karoo Huisie. There is a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and the place is very well looked after and clean. The garden is fenced and I could relax with my dog wandering around outside.
We had a great stay and will definitely stay there again in the future. The setting is fantastically rural as we like it and the cottage was very nice and clean with air conditioning and good quality bedding etc. Our hostess was a very pleasant and friendly person who immediately makes you feel welcome.
Lovely little farm house with good amenities. It's a good stop on the way to the East Cape coast. Dogs enjoyed the large garden.

The cottage was not cleaned beforehand. There were cobwebs everywhere. The air conditioner in the room only blew out warm air, so it was impossible to sleep in the heat. We had to braai in the dark, because there was no porch light. Will not stay there. Bad environment. Broken air conditioner. No porch light. Dirty little house.
Large outdoor area with lots of grass. Our 5 dogs thoroughly enjoyed it! Part of the road between Gariep and Bethulie was covered with potholes, I feel this should have been communicated as it was a nasty surprise after 8 hours of travel. We booked breakfast, but on arrival the hostess was surprised and said the 'loadshedding' schedule must be checked first. So do not offer or advertise breakfast if you are not equipped for load shedding. Also, load shedding has become just too convenient an excuse for poor service. TV was out of order as was the air conditioner. The place was particularly clean and tidy with good linen and towels. We appreciated the extras like a little milk in the fridge and bottled water. I feel the rate plus fee per dog should be revised as the accommodation does not justify the price and is not set up to handle shedding.
We had a lovely stay here. House is beautiful and neat. The scenery is lovely and our four-legged child enjoyed herself.
Location and accommodation very convenient.
The house is comfortable, with a surprisingly luxurious big bathroom.
This is a great stopover en route between Gauteng and the Cape. Self-catering and had everything you need. The bath is a treat. I am sure the garden is lovely in summer too. Lovely farm atmosphere. We have eaten at the Ou Kar restaurant in town before and it is also perfect if you'd prefer not to go self-catering.
Friendly helpful hostess, beautiful house, nicely furnished with everything needed. Large fenced yard. Our two dogs were in their element and enjoyed seeing horses. Calm, stars, trees. One cannot ask for more from an overnight stay. Feel free to go!
Bethulie is a real small Karoo village and the house is special.
There are no significant fences and the fences that are there are of ordinary wire and are very untidy. No electric fences or other security measures - feels very unsafe. The dirt road to the entrance, and the dirt roads on the plot are poorly maintained. The TV didn't work and anyway the TV room is basically unusable due to the location and old worn out furniture. Several lights, including the outside light on the porch, did not work. Can't believe anyone runs a guest house like this, especially considering the rate is hopelessly overpriced for what is on offer.
It's a little gem hidden in Bethulie! Louise was an excellent hostess and took care of everything with regular feedback. Will highly recommend to family, friends and acquaintances. Thank you very much, we will definitely see you again.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Karoo house. Lovely farmhouse, stylish decor, nice big rooms. Could braai on the big stoep with the most beautiful sunset. Will definitely have to make a visit there again.
Karoo Huisie is perfect for a nice stopover. It's spacious, tidy and has everything you would need. The area around it is very peaceful and the grass and stoep are a welcome retreat after a long day's travel.
Louise is a wonderful hostess who immediately makes you feel at home. Nice spacious old farmhouse where silence prevails. The house is tastefully furnished and decorated with everything needed.

What a lovely 2 nights we stayed at this lovely place! Louise welcomed us and our 3 boys and orphaned dogs with open arms! Everyone enjoyed themselves - we could have stayed longer! After struggling for years to find a proper pet friendly (which doesn't just mean the hamster and the budgie) and child-friendly overnight destination, it was amazing to find the Karoo Huisie! Can't wait to go back!
We were upgraded to a bigger house and were blown away by the lovely house we could live in. The warm beds with electric blankets, the hot showers and the spacious garden and house was much m,ore that we expected. Thank you!
The house is beautiful and neat. We had a delicious meal at the Old Car. The Hennie Stynburg was charming. Most beautiful photos taken there. Bethulie is close to the Gariep Dam and the dam is definitely worth a visit. Louise the owner is very friendly and helpful.
