In this little place there was no question of any substance. Very impressed, I would stay there again anytime and I highly recommend it to those who would consider it. We really enjoyed the place and had a really good time relaxing. It is located in a very peaceful and quiet area and we really felt very safe. Another bonus was the under shade net parking, which prevents the sun from baking the vehicle hot. Very safe parking. The places are really well equipped, some of the very best we have ever used. Big bonus is also the fact that they installed solar and we were not bothered by load shedding at all. Thanks again, you guys have a great place and would recommend it as much as we can.

We stayed in room 3, which had everything we needed and promised, such as a hairdryer, WiFi, DStv, clean and tidy. The room is also nice and spacious, with air conditioning. My only criticism is the very tight parking spaces, which will obviously only be a challenge at times when the entire guest house is fully booked. Also the fact that the gate car is out of order, and the parking was therefore technically not safe.

Everything was nice. Parking was an issue at one point but the owners have sorted it out. The room we stayed in doesn't look like the pictures, but it was fine.

We had a pleasant overnight stay, however we did find the sleeping arrangements a bit cramped with a double bed, bunk beds, and a single bed all in one room. The beds, however, were comfortable. Next time we will book 2 separate units.

We booked an overnight stay - Bloemfontein being a convenient distance between East London and Pretoria. Melsetter's is a short drive from the N1. Very good restaurants are nearby. The room was clean and comfortable. The hosts are friendly and met us on arrival.
Melsetter's welcomed us with open arms, along with our Bull Terrier without any problems. We had a separate yard for the dog and we didn't need to keep her away from other people all the time. I requested to book earlier due to travel plans and they helped us book earlier without any mishap. I would anytime recommend Melsetter's to those traveling with dogs, looking for a family and pet friendly environment and a good night's rest.

If you have a dog on the premises, they may need to check occasionally to keep clean at all times. The Woof is super cute over and over, but buns are not. The manager who thinks to smoke near and in the rooms is really inappropriate. I thought the mop they used was dirty, but when I saw how half the dishes were washed or should I say stored just as dirty, then I understood a lot more. Braai facilities are there, but there is not a single braai tong that was clean, and we had to request that it be provided. It was definitely not a pleasant stay. The rooms are extremely small and not at all as shown in the photo, and our room was intended for many more people than there were. The "bunk" beds are not bunk beds either, but two single beds placed on top of each other, so you can't turn around, then you'll get hurt. There is no space, although in the photos the site looks large. The neighbours' children shout and make noise all day, and there is work and noise. Definitely not suitable for a weekend visitor. And the parking was sickly very limited because the owner's immediate family came to visit. How is this guest's problem? I would not recommend the apartment to anyone.

We were warmly received to point out our secure parking and although we did not meet Margaret at reception she was "hands-on" throughout the evening to eliminate possible inconveniences. Lovely unit with everything to ensure your comfort and a bonus is that you can absolutely relax without having to plan around the power situation due to the solar power installed.
Unit was tidy and guest house has solar panels. Unfortunately some guests arrived after nine in the evening and were very noisy until after midnight with no caretaker in sight.

The reception was friendly and helpful. Room with own private bathroom is neat and well equipped. Despite the weather bureau predicting a -1 temperature, the room was very nice and warm and so were the bedding. No load shedding was experienced because the place is equipped with solar power. We were looking for a place for 5 people (2 adults and 3 children) to sleep over between the Kruger National Park and Cape Town. Melsetter's Guest House met all our requirements. The guest house was clean and tidy with good security. The free wifi and resistance to load shedding (inverter and gas stove) were welcome bonuses. We can recommend Melsetter's Gastehuis as a good place to stop on the long road between Cape Town and the old Transvaal. Good value for money.
Rooms serviced daily. Best complimentary home-made rusks. Electric blanket was a lifesaver for Bloem's winter. Solar power - no loadshedding. Free wifi. Extra camp bed provided for the unexpected visitor on last night (at no charge). Value for money!

As a family, we arrived at Melsetters early (before check-in time) after a long day's travel. We were quickly invited in and could immediately enter our room. We stayed nice and quiet, had a good night's rest and were on the road home (Cape) early again (4:00). It is a very nice and comfortable place to sleep with more than enough space for our family of 5.
I would just recommend that 2 ply toilet paper be provided. And to mention that the fridge in room 7 where we slept is noisy.

The small fridge in the room was silent and did not turn on and off. The going on and off at other guesthouses bothers more than the noise at night. The solar system is a big plus. The water in the taps was purified.

Compliments for the beautiful garden and clean pool. Room has everything you need for an overnight stay. Wifi not used but is available. Neat and clean and nice big bathroom. We will definitely stay there again. Owner also upgrading to cope with load shedding.
I booked room 5 and we were placed in room 6. The room is very neat and well furnished but the fridge did not work at all and when I wanted to put on a TV program for the children the Netflix/Showmax did not work. When we asked the owner about it, she said that unfortunately it doesn't work in the room where we were placed. She offered to move us but our things were already unpacked in that room. There is also only a wooden door between us and the room next to us and the people were terribly noisy until about midnight. We have small children who had trouble sleeping as a result and we also couldn't rest terribly before our further journey.

We were put on another site in an apartment at the back of the yard, as all the rooms were booked. This apartment was clean and tidy. The access to the apartment was difficult as it was at the back of the yard and we had to ask for the vehicles to move in front to get in and out. The owner of Melsetter's Guesthouse was very helpful and friendly.
The shower does not work at all during load shedding, i.e. no water. Otherwise it was very nice.

It was only an overnight place for me, so it met my sleeping needs. I was on the road again the next morning at 5:00. It remains a "custom house" and so the "energy flow" and how everything is put together is not good for me personally. The tight parking space and the 6 point turn I had to do to get in was just not fun. Bathroom's shower is nice, that doesn't make it bad, just different. It's very different from my house, that's all, just different.
I would recommend anyone to sleep over there. Amenities are neat and everything one needs. Friendly and helpful owner.

Sleeping on a strange bed in a strange city with a busy schedule doesn't always let me relax and sleep peacefully. At Malsetter's Guest Rooms we received so much more than we paid for. The kindness of Margaret and Boytjie made us feel so at home. A quality mattress is always the most important to me next to cleanliness. We received both and so much more beautiful to the eye. Thank you for a wonderful night's rest and excellent service. We will definitely stop by again.

We travel every year in December with our young kids and teenager since 2008 and always stay over in Bloem on our way home. This guest house was the absolute best one we have ever stayed at. The hosts were so friendly and welcoming, the rooms were amazing and the facilities were great. We normally leave around 7am in the morning from a stay over, but we were so relaxed and enjoying the guesthouse so much, that we only left just before 9am. It's definitely a great experience and the hosts really go out of their way to make you feel like you are at home away from home. There was open WiFi, DStv, Netflix and Showmax. And the hosts recommended an amazing restaurant which is family friendly and just 3km from the guesthouse, called Copper Clover. Wow wow wow, just amazing atmosphere and food. This guesthouse will now be the only one we stay at in Bloem. We absolutely loved it! I told my husband that I would drive to Bloem for a weekend, just to have another stay over at the guesthouse.
The aircon was a plus and much appreciated, not many guesthouses in Bloem have it.

Loved our stay. Our host was very pro-active in communicating with us on our day of arrival, with all the relevant information. We stayed in the unit with a lovely corner bath which was the cherry on top. Very convenient location with many take away or eat out options close by.

Even before our arrival, we received a WhatsApp message with the necessary information to reach and contact the guest house. Arthur, the manager, received us kindly and went out of his way to make us feel at home. The room was excellently equipped and we each got a chocolate treat on our beds. It was clean and tidy with complete towel sets (bath/face) for each person as well as sufficient storage space for clothes. The fridge/freezer even had ice available. All information i. f. m. the guest house and unit were expressed and clearly visible in the unit, including WiFi passwords and TV functions e.g. Netflix. There was everything and more that a traveler could ask for. Many thanks to Arthur for making our stay outstanding. We will definitely see you again.

Margaret and her staff went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The unit gets cleaned everyday, the staff washed our clothing without being asked/told which was a huge blessing as we were due to further our travels after 1 week stay at Melsetters. It's a very nice guest house if you have business in Bloemfontein, even just for an overnight stay on the way to your destination. It is very nice, effort is made with the rooms and no problems or difficulties. It's also in a very safe neighborhood.

Excellent stay! From now on will only sleep there on the way to the sea! They went out of their way to accommodate us with the two babies, with an extra small bed (which my child talked about the whole holiday) and a cot. The accommodation is so thoughtful, with cold water, milk, a chocolate for each of us and dish soap in the bathroom for washing bottles late at night. We slept very well and appreciate everything so much.

The accommodation was neat and beautiful. Host is very friendly and helpful. Good value for money! Parking is behind a barred gate, but the sliding doors do not have theft protection. The crockery was a bit dirty and we had to wash it first.

We stayed for one night. The guesthouse owner was very nice, she made sure that we found the place in Bloemfontein. The rooms were tidy, well decorated and they made provisions for our young children. The pool is currently undergoing renovations (as of the 12 Dec 2019) but it looks like it should be completed soon. We were pleased to find that they had a smart TV-unit which had a high-speed internet connection for streaming videos. There were no dishcloths in the unit we were staying in so pack in your own. Parking was secure and it is in a nice-looking neighbourhood. Overall, we enjoyed our stay and would definitely consider @Melsetter's again.

Only criticism is that the hot shower water was cold on the Saturday and Sunday morning.

It would be great if the room could be more soundproof. One can hear everything that happens in the house, during my visit this included a screaming baby. Insulation around the door leading to the house will make a big difference.

There are some good things that stood out for me personally. Firstly the bed is more comfortable than I thought. Secondly, the Bible in the room made me feel at home. Thirdly the wash basin made of glass was extremely cool, never seen anything like that.
