We stayed here on our way back to Gauteng and it was absolutely lovely. It had everything we needed. It was comfortable, cosy, beautiful and very peaceful and safe. Wish we could stay a bit longer. We'll definitely make it our stop-over place for future travels.
We were able to take in the tranquility of the Karoo properly. Owners are very friendly, warm and helpful. The indoor barbecue was perfect for good quality time with the family.
The cottage is spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We were able to cook a full evening meal using the gas stove/oven and the inside fireplace for a braai. It is close to N1, making it a very convenient stop-over on the CPT-JNB route. Despite being close to the road, the noise from the road was minimal. Our hosts were charming and helpful. They communicated well before and after our visit. Just a heads-up for other travellers: the bathroom is off the main bedroom. This may be inconvenient if both bedrooms are occupied. It was no problem for us as we were a single couple.

Mooifontein Cottage is well equipped and comfortable. Just 300m off the N1 makes it an ideal stopover point. Access and check-in is simple - you are given a gate code to let yourself in, and the cottage is waiting for you. This was my 5th stay. I wish it wasn't so popular and was always available!

We had a wonderful overnight stay at Mooifontein Cottage.
The accommodation was very neat and clean with exquisite decor. The kitchen was adequately equipped. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the main bedroom has a nice old cot. Note that two of the single beds are not in a room, but in the living room. This was not a problem for us. The tranquility was wonderful!

We slept over one night on the way to the Wilderness. The people are friendly, the picturesque cottage is perfectly equipped and furnished with everything you could need, there are plenty of warm blankets for the cold evenings and it was the perfect first stopover in the Karoo for our "road trip".

A beautiful, cosy, well appointed cottage. There was silence, comfort, warm blankets, heaters and the very best: an indoor barbecue/fireplace. Suggestion: a cutting board/bread board and some medium-sized bowls to put chips/salad/side dishes in would be very handy in the kitchen.

This is not the first time we have stayed overnight at the Cottage. It always remains a special experience that can hardly be expressed in words.
Beautiful farmhouse just off the main road. There is a braai inside the house and is perfect for braaiing a Karoo chop. Definately spend the night there every time we drive down to the Cape.

Beautiful cottage a stone, easy to find from highway. Felt very welcome - the small additional touches (milk, ice, coffee/tea/sugar and rusks as well stocked wood basket) were a wonderful touch. Traffic on road kept us awake but that's understandable. Lovely place and Constance gave us a warm welcome. Place is suitable for a family, but with friends it is an uncomfortable situation as there is only 1 bathroom leading from the main bedroom. Kitchen is great, fireplace in lounge area a bit smoky. The place was tidy when we got there and they welcomed us with open arms. Later in the evening it was bitterly cold and they then provided us with wood to get the fireplace going, will definitely spend the night there again.

The photos of Mooifontein Cottage do not show how beautiful, clean and tidy the place really is. The owner communicated very well with us before and after the visit and was super friendly. The place is terribly neat, with nothing out of place. Everything is spotless and they also think about alleles, e.g. one of those purple bug-catching lights outside. The pool was spotless and gave a real farm pool feel. The place is bigger than you think, and will easily accommodate 6 adults. There are also lovely, large, green lawns. Mooifontein Cottage is also easy to find. They are about 15 minutes before Colesberg on the N1. From now on I will only use Mooifontein Cottage if I need an overnight stop on the way to the sea. Would even consider staying 2 nights!

We had a great stay at Mooifontein Cottage. The place was very spacious and it was nice for the children to have fun after a long drive in the car. Although it feels like you are close to the highway, we couldn't hear the cars at all.

Place for 6 to sleep. Unfortunately have to walk through master bedroom to use the 1 bathroom. Will work for family and family with small children. Two of the beds are in living room which violates privacy. But, had a wonderful stay and was able to get back on the road to Cape Town early.

Swimming pool was great for children and they had a great time playing on the large lawn. The grown-ups had a good time barbecuing and hanging out. Close to the road, but the traffic did not interfere at all. Will definitely stay there again. Maybe they should just put a railing at the stairs, it felt a bit unsafe to get into the pool.

As a family we have travelled extensively throughout South Africa for over 20 years and I can honestly say in terms of value for money, Mooifontein is in the top 5%. This restored farmhouse testifies in terms of space and furnishings of the old-fashioned charm that one can expect from such a Karoo farmhouse, but it's beyond that expectation. Every thing is in its place, with a hostess who did not only meet our special request, but also with the same true warmth that her accommodation radiates. The quiet Karoo night outside rounded off our visit perfectly and with its location close to the N1, this is the perfect halfway stop between the Cape and the North. We will return!

The cottage is much larger than we thought at first. Everything is pretty, the beds are comfortable, the pool is clean, everything is just 100% perfect. Oh, except for the bathroom door lock. It didn't work. We left a message for the owners, and I'm sure they will have it fixed soon. Will definitely overnight there again (or stay longer) when I'm back on the road between Johannesburg and the Cape.

We might have had a more peaceful stay if the owners of the farm were also there, but understand that they can't be at home sometimes. The hostess did ensure us that it was safe though and there were no incidents. The house is very cute even though the one bathroom that leads from the main bedroom isn't so practical if there are 6 people staying over. Otherwise everything was very neat and comfortably equipped and we would like to stay there again.

We enjoyed our stop over at Mooifontein; after a 7 hour journey, it's a lovely place to stop. It has all the amenities for a self-catering residence and a big thumbs up for it being dog-friendly. It is however, unfortunate that the hosts/owners were not there for our stay. We did feel a little lost being alone on the farm.
I really enjoyed the evening at Mooifontein. The silence and hospitality are rare in today's modern rush-rush society. Will definitely stay there again.
Mooifontein is situated on a piece of beautiful land. Easy to find and we felt so safe. The house is spacious and so nicely decorated and very comfortably equipped. My dream farmhouse! Will definitely go back for a visit.
The electric blankets were a blessing. The indoor fireplace made us sleep wonderfully cozy. The only thing that might bother you is the traffic on the N1. If this is not something that will bother you there is no better place to sleep over.
