We had a great stay at the Old Watchmakers Guest House. Great value for money, friendly staff and in a good location. Perfect stop over between the Cape and Gauteng.

Old Watchmakers looks a bit dilapidated from the outside and could definitely do with some renovation. That said, the bedroom was nice, everything was very clean, the aircon worked (in the heat we had, very important), service was really good, and we had an excellent breakfast. Good value for money.

Old Watchmakers Guest House's stay was very pleasant with clean, tidy, tasteful rooms, very friendly service and a delicious breakfast. However, an adjustment must be made to the description: There is no bistro available! Luckily we planned a picnic dinner on the Hennie Steyn Bridge, it was incredibly beautiful with a breathtaking view!

Unfortunately we couldn't get dinner at the Bistro, but there are other places to eat within walking distance. The service is friendly and hospitable - we would recommend it anytime.

From the minute we arrived until the minute we left, nothing was less than PHENOMENAL. Nothing was too much trouble for our hostesses EM and Wendy. The big log fire burning in the lounge, the beautiful large room - going to bed was like going to bed in Grandma's Featherbed! FABULOUS - and oh my goodness, was the dinner we had there an experience never to be forgotten. All manners were forgotten (greed not need!) and we went back for more and more. It was delicious, as was breakfast. The entire establishment was fantastic, to say the least. In fact there are no words good enough to describe our stay with EM and Wendy. Friendly, comfortable and exceptionally neat and tidy, and much, much more! Gorgeous.

The lady who received us served us delicious fish and chips. All eateries were closed. The place doesn't look so good from the outside, but we were surprised with a lovely and beautiful room. We can only praise the lady who works there - she is so friendly!
I was the only person in the guest house in a small, deserted village. The hostess came to cook for me the night after I had to ask for it and charged me a fortune, R25 for a small bowl of ice cream. She then drove off again, leaving me all alone in the massive house. The next morning I left early and she said I could just leave the house open. Some of the locks are not secure and I was very nervous sleeping there alone.

We were scared at first, the streets looked dusty, it was dry and the surroundings were not nice, due to the fact that they had not had rain for about 2 years. However, the room was clean and tidy, the food unbeatable. We enjoyed breakfast and dinner there. Excellent value for money.

Just what you want for a quick overnight stay: nice bed and bathroom, delicious food and friendliness.
We were very kindly helped to move comfortably into the room. As there were no restaurants open in Bethulie on the holiday, she offered to prepare dinner for us. We didn't discuss at all and tried to convince her that we would manage ourselves but she didn't want to know anything. That evening she prepared a delicious dinner for just the 3 of us. The breakfast the next morning was also excellent, we will certainly use their services again if we want to spend the night in the Bethulie area.

After a long journey, the driver accommodated us around 9:00pm that night and served us a delicious dinner - a big plate of home cooked food complete with chicken pie. There was secure parking behind the gate, the bed was comfortable and a good breakfast was included at a reasonable B&B rate. We will remember the manager and owner because they are very friendly people who received us with hospitality - we appreciated the chats! Bethulie itself is stimulating and one of the more beautiful places in the area, filled with peacefulness and history.
