Very nice overnight stay at the guest house full of farmer friendliness. Food is personally prepared by aunty. The farmhouse is located close to Colesberg, so it's not a detour out of your way.

Pleasant farm style stay.
Riana and her husband warmly welcomed us at Palmietfontein Guest House. From the moment we arrived, they went out of their way to make sure we felt at home. The breakfast was delicious and plentiful, served in a true Karoo style atmosphere which made the experience that much more special. We definitely had a great stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a true South African hospitality experience in the heart of the Karoo.

We were warmly received on the farm. Please note, Palmietfontein Guest House is a short drive out of Colesberg. We wanted to stay on a guest farm. The road was a bit rough and a 4X4 would definitely have been better transport. But we arrived and had a great stay. The Venters are a formidable host and hostess. Slept very nice and warm and enjoyed a delicious breakfast the next morning. Good value for money and very tasty. I recommend Palmietfontein to anyone who loves open plains and true South African hospitality. Thank you very much Piet and Riana. You helped create memories for a wonderful Cape Draai holiday that we made July 2023!

The farm is quiet and peaceful and it was lovely to just sit in the garden and see the beautiful area. We also booked dinner - it was the best barbecue and side dish I've had in a long time.
Was very impressed with the hospitality we received from Piet and Riana. The farmhouse gives a nice Karoo feeling. Inside is very beautiful with all kinds of antiques that remind you of your grandfather's and grandmother's farm years. Nice view over the plains. The mutton stew was delicious and we had a very nice meal there. Definitely a must for a stopover destination.
Piet and Riana are the definition of hospitality. The Palmietfontein farmhouse is a real oasis in the middle of a typical Northern Cape farm.

Piet and Riana made us feel comfortable in a few moments. Piet is a top braaier and Riana is a top cook! The rooms are spacious! Do mention that ablution facilities are shared between 3 rooms. For a single tour group it won't bother.

We enjoyed Palmietfontein Gastehuis and it served its purpose as a simple transit stop-over, for a young family of three with a dog en-route to the Cape from Joburg. Our thoughtful hosts, Piet and Riana, took care of us and made us feel very safe and welcome, in the tranquil classic Karoo farmhouse setting. They also assisted us with food which enabled us to travel light. We will be back in December when we make the journey again.
Access road according to GPS extremely poor. Cupboards in room locked no hanging space. Family photos in room inappropriate. One bathroom for 4 rooms insufficient. The house is not at all suitable for a guest house and for the price! There are much better places in Colesberg for less. The dinner at R180 is excessively high compared to the same at a restaurant. The food was well prepared.
We were made to feel very welcome and we enjoyed our stay on both occasions, Palmietfontein is a farm in a beautiful relaxed setting away from the noise of the city.
We were kindly received by Piet and Riana. The rooms were perfectly furnished, with everything one needs. Deliciously grilled with their braai facilities. Breakfast was very tasty.

The uncle and aunt's hospitality is fantastic and the food even better! Our only comment, not criticism, the guest house is not animal friendly, the uncle and aunt's animals are friendly yes but if your own dogs are not you will have to close your dogs in your room because there is not a separate courtyard or space for them. But other than that it was fantastic, food was above standard and the view amazing!

It was our second visit to Palmiet and just like with the first booking, we had a very nice stay. You are received very friendly and they help with all your needs and enquiries. Within reason of course. I will recommend it to anyone who do not mind driving a 5 km dirt road.

The people are breathtaking. Their friendliness makes you feel at home. Crumble makes your heart crumble. The house makes you feel like you are visiting Grandpa and Grandma. Clean, tidy and everything in its place. Thank you Piet and wife.

We had a very wonderful stay. We got to meet Krummels the meerkat. Riana and her husband Piet made us feel very welcome and the food that they prepared for us was very nice. The farm was very safe and the surroundings were wonderful. Krummels was the highlight for both myself and my husband. Thank you to both of them we had a wonderful stay.

Riana and Pieter Venter are very nice and make sure that everything is in order and guests are comfortable. The yard is very neat and orderly, yet one cannot overlook the farm setting and the typical animal sounds create a wonderful atmosphere. We are also very impressed with the site regarding the grass green lawns. One just wants to lie down on it and relax after a day's travel by car.
For people who prefer the farm to the city, this is an ideal destination.
The guest house is a bit far out on a dirt road, but the people are friendly, the food is delicious, and it's quiet enough for you to sleep like a baby. It is a beautiful place with wonderful facilities outside.

The hostess really made me feel at home. With regards to safety the guesthouse is on a farm and there's no form of security.
It is really lovely to get to the Karoo after a long journey and just be able to enjoy the silence of the area. Dinner in comparison with other places is a tad too expensive - but the Karoo chops were delicious.
We had a nice stay at the guest house. The host and hostess were very friendly and made us feel right at home. We had a nice afternoon nap and a delicious dinner was served to us. The only negative aspect is the bathroom, shower and toilet that have to be shared with other guests.

It was a quick sleepover, we drove a long way. Riana was great with the follow up and concern for our safety so late at night. Breakfast was delicious.
Nowhere is it mentioned that the guest house is on a farm 10 km outside the town. This is important as one does not always want to drive on a dirt road, and may think one is on the wrong route, etc.
Good location and hospitality, but room (master bedroom) and amenities need upgrading and are currently sub-standard.

The people were very friendly and hospitable. We didn't really like sharing bathroom with other guests. It had also been very hot with no air conditioning. We felt unsafe with doors not being locked at all at night. Hospitality and friendliness were really great.

We didn't really like the bathroom part, but did work something out with other guests. For the price we paid, we would have expected a bit more modern bathrooms. It's just our own personal taste and we can't speak for other people. We would definitely recommend the place.
