Arrived during a huge electric storm to be greeted by the host standing in the rain with an umbrella. Served us a wonderful lamb shank dinner in front of a cosy fireplace. Very convenient close to the N1, yet dead quiet, waking up with birdsong and crisp Karoo air. Lovely stay.
We had a great time and ate and will definitely recommend the guest farm to our family and friends! Louis went out of his way to make it pleasant for us and if you are a Boston terrier lover this is the place to stay.

The hosts from Rondefontein were wonderful, friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. We had a lovely braai and the hosts made sure we had what we needed. The Karoo sunset was spectacular! Our neighbours were unfortunately very inconsiderate and noisy when they were packing up and leaving at 4:30am. Not sure how that could be managed though.

Rondefontein was a pleasant discovery. Conveniently close enough to the N1, without the traffic bothering you. The room was spotless and furnished with everything one needed. Plenty of blankets too - I suspect it can get cold here in the winter. The dinner is highly recommended, it's delicious peasant food after a day on the road. We would stay here again.

We stayed on the way back home. The accommodation was tidy with warm blankets etc. for the cold Free State winter night. Rondefontein has sufficient backup electricity and you will not be left in the dark. The three course dinner was definitely top notch and I would recommend anyone to add it if you are staying overnight. Additional charges for that were very reasonable.
Far enough away for it to be quiet, near enough that it is convenient. Lovely spot, one could even stay a few days.

You can already see this sheep farm from the highway, via one road of 2.5 km parallel to the main road you are there. Louis, the host, prepares a gourmet dinner for his guests: hotel quality. Creative and beautifully served. Besides, he will assist his guests with advice and action if that is necessary. One top host. There is one cozy bar with an adjoining lounge. The spa room is super clean and is equipped with small and large towels, a nice bed and a great bathroom. We heartily recommend this stopover.
I looked at the host with new respect to see him, on the surface, effortlessly turning on the generator to accommodate the load shedding. Even when the generator needed renewed attention halfway through the dinner. All the necessary flashlights were also in place, both in the restaurant and the sleeping unit. Louis prepared the food for us all by himself while Nicole looked after the two young sprouts. It's our second sleepover after the first, just after you took over a few years ago. We would love to stay with you again.
The dinner is top notch, mutton that melts in your mouth. Starve yourself ahead of time, the food is more than enough and top notch.

The dirt road there is in good condition and we were received very kindly. Our children loved the place and just wanted to stay longer. Cute dog, rabbits, cats, chickens, sheep, turtles. It was lovely to be able to stretch our legs a bit and admire the open landscape. We had dinner and it was delicious, the honesty bar also good with a variety of cold drinks, also wines, and enough ice, available. The Stable was very comfortable and had everything we needed. Enough space to plug in chargers was appreciated, as was the attention to other small things, sanitizer available etc. The unit only has a tub and we knew that but would have wanted to use the outside shower but it doesn't seem like it's currently in use/hot water faucet didn't work (we didn't ask so maybe they would make a plan has). It's on a farm, so a few insects got in, but that's completely understandable. Maybe one of those long dachshund door stoppers could be used to make it a little more difficult at the door. We really loved the place and would definitely stay there again, and recommend Rondefontein with an open mind! Very convenient location by the N1 without the traffic bothering you.
Great place to spend a night to break the journey between Cape and Pretoria. Couldn't fault the place on anything. The cottage had everything we needed. Pity the weather wasn't great, bit chilly and rainy. We had a braaipack for dinner and the breakfast served was delicious! We would stay there again. Thank you Louis for your great service.

It was the second time we stayed at Louis and Nicole's place and we can definitely recommend it. Delicious dinner and breakfast are also provided and you have a good time there. There are also animals for the children to look at and you can go for a short walk on the farm to stretch your legs after the long road. The accommodation is tip-top!

Host welcomed us kindly. Accommodation in a unit with everything you need. The coffee/tea and fresh milk was appreciated and the sherry was delicious to ward off the cold. Very "charming" atmosphere. The dog, Skye, is as friendly as his owner. Bunnies in the garden were too cute.
Friendly suggestion. Switch on the fridge and heater in the early afternoon if you know in advance that there will be guests in the specific rooms. Thank you very much for a lovely stay.

The hosts Louis and Nicole were exceptional, the way they interacted and told us about their farm and the Karoo. The hospitality was great. The dinner was out of this world and very well presented.
The owners were very friendly. The dinner was very nice, but the main course's portion was too big, so a waste. The facilities were adequate for one night's overnight stay. The location is ideal. However, the middle man of the road was very high, especially for an ordinary car. Very peaceful and beautiful.

We stayed in several guesthouses during our trip and Rondefontein was definitely the best accommodation out of all the ones we stayed at. The unit was clean, tidy and equipped with everything you need. The pool was a bonus in the hot weather, and the meals excellent. Louis and Nicole run a guest farm where you will always feel welcome because they are such genuine people. Look no further than this little gem for overnight or longer stay options close to the N1.

Have visited many places and this is a first time we encountered such boldness! Has a small restaurant and bar with refreshments for sale and we could prepare our own braai meat in separate braai area. Children could move around freely and could view lambs and sheep, rabbits and chickens. Great fun and entertainment for us and children. Real farm feel. This was a perfect halfway stop between Cape Town and Johannesburg. We had a very comfortable room with a king-size bed, as requested. We visited during a very busy lambing season and Louis and Nicole made us feel so welcome, showing us the one day old lambs. They provided a delicious meal in a relaxed setting. This delightful farm in a small, dusty town was a welcome stopover some 800 km from Cape Town. We has a particular interest in visiting the British War Graves of the women and children who died in the Concentration Camp during the Anglo Boer War 1899 to 1902. Our host, Louis, dropped all he was doing to show us the way as it is not easy to find. A worthwhile visit. As this was an overnight stop our hosts provided a delicious Karoo farm dinner to end the day in front of a roaring wood fire. I would highly recommend this guest farm.

From the moment we arrived the hosts Louis and Nicole overwhelmed us by their friendliness and assistance. Nothing is too much trouble to make their guests feel at home like family in one of the cleanliest rooms we have stayed in. Although we braaied I can recommend the set dinner from the aroma we received from the kitchen and from other guests comments. The breakfast the next morning was great value for money. Hope the OBS in the room was complementary? Will definitely stay at Rondefontein again.

Located just 2 km from the N1 on a working farm, Rondefontein is a convenient stopover between Cape Town and Joburg. Louis and Nicole are very welcoming hosts and are able to offer tasty home cooked meals in a relaxed setting.

We stayed the night with our 3 little kids on the way back to Pretoria from the Cape, we stayed in the family unit. The unit is well-appointed and free-standing, which makes it easy with the kids. Louis and Nicole treated us to a warm reception and were willing to lend a hand with everything. The wall heaters and electric blankets were wonderful on the cold winter night. We recommend them highly and we will definitely be back. Only one suggestion: consider thicker towels for winter.
The meals were heavenly, and the service speaks of true South African hospitality. As a family we'd like to visit again.

Description
Dorper comprises a double bed; an en-suite bathroom with a shower; and a kitchenette with a microwave, fridge, basin and kettle.
It comprises 2 chalets. Around the chalets, there's a beautiful garden and if you are lucky you'll find a bunny or two hopping around. The farm has a swimming pool next to a fully licensed bar and a cozy dinning room with DSTV, aircon and a fire place, in which you can enjoy home-made boerekos with the tastiest Karroo Lamb or a hearty English breakfast at an additional charge.
On the farm enjoy the beautiful southern Free-state views, take a walk, run, bike ride or do some bird watching. The Free-state sun sets are something to behold.
