Wide open spaces, majestic dolerite cliffs and utter tranquility await you at the Karoo National Park, conveniently located just outside Beaufort West, of the N1. An ideal stopover point for travel between Cape Town and Johannesburg and only 3 hours from the Garden Route, the Karoo National Park is also ideal for a family holiday or a weekend break.

Explore 130-kilometres of scenic drives and wildlife-viewing roads in your own vehicle or join a guided drive or walk to find out more about the fascinating Karoo ecosystem. Towards late afternoon the great, unyielding canopy slowly softens its fierceness, and from pastel shades of pink and blue the colours deepen, setting the endless Karoo canvas ablaze with glorious hues of orange and red.

The Main Rest Camp boasts Cape Dutch-style units, all with stunning panoramic views of the Karoo landscape. All accommodation is self-catering, but breakfast at the restaurant is included in the price of the accommodation units. The accommodation is serviced daily with bedding and towels provided.

The rest camp swimming pool and accommodation units are all within easy walking distance of the reception and restaurant area.

Camping enthusiasts will delight in one of 24 award-winning camping and caravan sites in the rugged Karoo environment. Communal ablutions with showers and baths, and kitchen facilities with stove plates and a scullery are available. A coin-operated communal laundry is available at the campsite.

A fully licensed, a la carte restaurant is open for breakfast and dinner, and there is a shop where curios and basic commodities may be purchased. Picnic, braai and ablution facilities and a swimming pool are available for day visitors at the Bulkraal picnic site. Picnic and ablution facilities are also available at the Doornhoek picnic site inside the game viewing area.

The Old Schuur Interpretive Centre is set in an old farm building, renovated to reflect its original form, and dates back to the 1800’s. Positioned just outside the rest camp near the camping site, the centre is accessible via a beautiful wooden boardwalk. It offers historical displays and information on the flora and fauna of the Karoo, as well as the ecological and cultural history of the Park.
