At night the clink of fruit bats is fused with the chirping of cicadas and crickets. The calls of owls and nightjars add to the symphony that is punctuated intermittently by the whoop of hyena, the screech of jackal and the roars of lion.
The Satara Rest Camp offers a deli and a shop, a restaurant, a communal laundromat, filling station, communal kitchens and ablutions, braai facilities, a swimming pool with children’s playground for overnight residents, and a day visitor picnic area with a boma on the perimeter of the camp.
Activities at Satara Rest Camp include guided bush walks, and morning, night and day game drives in the company of trained field guides, bush breakfasts and braais, seasonal kids educational programmes, wildlife films on the big screen daily except Sundays, Sweni Bird Hide located on the Sweni River about 30 km from camp, Ratel Pan Bird Hide located on the Timbavati/Roodewal road about 35 km from camp, and through prior arrangement with the camp, catered traditional dances can be arranged.

Like everything in South Africa, this is also falling apart. The gardens are poorly maintained. It was supposed to be the highlight of our vacation. We never slept in the park before. We were very disappointed. It is very pricy for what you get.
Marizaan, please note the above comment so you can pre-warn your/our clients. I did not realise it until it was too late and was not properly prepared. My own fault but I think others may easily make the same mistake. Apart from that we enjoyed our stay and made the best we could of the unexpected setback.
The rondavel was very neat and clean. All equipment, shower and taps in good working order. With loadshedding, generator of Satara provided power within few minutes. Was surprised with comfort of beds and sufficient bedding.
It was nice. The rain was the only thing that caused some discomfort.
Refrigerator not working. Cold meat has gone rotten. Shower has no water pressure. Toilet must flush 3 times. Office at Sanparke is not interested in helping.
No complaints. Have a nice time.
Will stay longer next time and not just overnight.
Bungalow was spotlessly clean on arrival and on return from first morning it was cleaned, beds made, fireplace clean etc. Satara also good environment for rides. Shop contains all the essentials and the restaurant excellent.
Remember it's just like camping and then you'll find it fantastic.
The original unit was not ready. There was a water supply problem but reception nevertheless put us in the unit where the parking was blocked by earthworks and water flowed 100m down the access road. With my complaint (we didn't even get out of the car) we were put in another unit. Communication!
There was also a shortage of crockery but this problem was solved by taking stock out of another bungalow which was vacant. Therefore the problem was not solved. The other real problem we had was the invasion of monkeys while trying to unpack our vehicle and also while trying to prepare food. They were such a nuisance and that took away our feeling of trying to relax in a tranquil environment. They were also aggressive which added to the problem.
The staff gave us a very friendly reception. The house we stayed in was beautiful, private and had an incredible view. It was very clean and serviced every day. We are looking forward to going again!
I have travelled and been a visitor to the Kruger Park for literally decades. Unfortunately I have not visited for the last two to three years due to my son and daughter in law starting a family overseas. I noticed a decline in the standard of maintenance of the rest camps during my recent and brief visit. The lawns and edges had not been mown and trimmed. Some benches were broken and not maintained and a general lack of care. The customer service was very average. I was initially booked into an already occupied bungalow. Having said that I will continue to frequent the Park and its natural beauty.
They can pay more attention to cleaning bathrooms, use Handy Andy a bit, at least put a scent thing in toilets.
Camped. When I checked in I was told I didn't pay for a power point and this after I asked the website to confirm I would get a power point. The campsite is unkempt and overgrown. Bathrooms are cleaned once a day. Really unfriendly at reception office.
We like Satara because it is much more peaceful, it feels like you are sleeping in the forest and the traffic is very little. Satara's campsite is tidy and the bathrooms are clean. The staff are friendly and helpful.
Saw a lot of wildlife, even rare things like rattlesnakes, wild dogs and many more.
Neat accommodation. Friendly staff. Clean towels and neat linen. Beautiful clean pool. Peaceful and quiet camp. Would definitely recommend the rest camp.

Great getaway!
The ablution facilities for the men were very dirty. The bathrooms at the restaurant were even worse. The restaurant's staff were not well trained and we waited about 20 minutes before we were offered drinks. It's only after I went and asked someone to serve us. The campsite is not well marked. And some pitches' grass is so long you can't stand there. Nature itself is wonderful! On that alone I am very impressed.
Satara is a fairly large camp. Our chalet was clean and tidy and met all the amenities. Had a lovely stay here. Only had to pay the additional camp charges as required.
We stayed only one night. The location is wonderful, here around we saw a lot of animals.
It was very nice, saw a lot of game, but the park is very dry.

Rondawel was neat and clean, but when we used the bathroom, the sewage pushed out in the shower. Horrible smell. We reported it but no response.
We were pleasantly surprised by the helpfulness and friendliness of staff but were disappointed by the state of the facilities. Arriving at the camp, the smell of bats in the roofs of the reception, shops and restaurant is appalling. Accommodation is clean, but in dire need of an upgrade.
This is the ultimate place to really feel and experience Africa. A place I call heaven-on-earth. I don't really have words to describe the tranquility and peace you experience. If you want to totally relax. This is the place for you!
Area is very clean and peaceful. The sites are a bit small, but acceptable.
Was great to get away from the city and be closer to nature in a quiet environment.

House Rules
Please note: From 1 September 2017 all visitors over 18 years old will be required to produce an identity document, passport or alternative valid identification e.g. driver’s licence card for scanning upon entering/exiting the Parks.
A standard daily conservation fee of R440 for foreign visitors, R220 for SADC nationals with a valid passport, and R110 for South African Citizens and Residents with ID, will be required on entry to the park.
In emergencies only, late arrivals for guests with prebooked accommodation at camps within 10km from an entrance gate is allowed subject to the following conditions:
* Not allowed under any circumstances at Giriyondo, Pafuri, Phabeni or Phalaborwa Gates
* No arrivals later than 21:00 under any circumstances
* An additional cost per vehicle applies: R710 for vehicles with 8 or less passengers, R1,490 for vehicles with 9 or more passengers
* Must be arranged in advance with the gate and rest camp
* Evidence of emergency that delayed arrival will be requested
All accommodation, ablution and kitchen facilities are serviced by cleaning staff on a daily basis.
Besides a bank (only open Monday to Friday and Saturday morning) at Skukuza and an ATM at Skukuza and Letaba, no cash withdrawal facilities are available in the Park.
Day visitors will no longer be allowed to bring or consume alcohol in public areas such as parking lots, picnic sites, wildlife viewing areas or roads, gates and all other areas designated as public. The restrictions will not apply to overnight visitors who will be allowed to bring in own alcohol for consumption in the privacy of their booked accommodation and the restaurants. Like day visitors, overnight visitors will be bound by the same rules of not drinking in public.
Do not leave any food unattended, as thieving monkeys and baboons are a constant threat.
Late arrivals are only allowed in cases of emergency (proof and valid reason required) until 21:00 for guests with pre-booked accommodation at certain camps within 10 km distance from the relevant gate. An extra late arrival fee will be charged which is payable at the gate. No late arrivals are allowed at Pafuri, Phalaborwa or Phabeni Gates or any other gates for camps more than 10 km away.
The use of drones inside (and over) our national parks is strictly prohibited.
No animals may be brought into a National Park
As outdoor lighting in camps is limited, a torch/headlamp is required when walking outside at night.
No smoking is allowed inside the accommodation.

Cancellation policy
Cancelling or downgrading of a reservation 45 days or less prior to, or on, arrival will result in cancellation fees according to a sliding scale, based on the total reservation cost, which varies between 50% and 100%.
Description
The Rudy Frankel Guest House is an air-conditioned guest house located in a prime position inside the camp. The guest house comprises 5 en-suite bedrooms, and an open-plan kitchen, dining and living area. Each bedroom contains 2 single beds. The kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering with a fridge-freezer, stove and oven, kettle, and toaster. The dining area contains an 8-seater dining table and chairs. The lounge contains a TV with selected DStv channels. The living area opens to a covered patio with a dining table and chairs and braai facilities.
The camp itself has a rustic charm, with the bulk of the accommodation set out in a series of circles. Satara is well wooded and the bird life is prolific. At night the clink of fruit bats is fused with the chirping of cicadas and crickets. The calls of owls and nightjars add to the symphony that is punctuated intermittently by the whoop of hyena, the screech of jackal and the roars of lion.
The Satara Rest Camp offers a deli and a shop, a restaurant, a communal laundromat, filling station, communal kitchens and ablutions, braai facilities, a swimming pool with children’s playground for overnight residents, and a day visitor picnic area with a boma on the perimeter of the camp.
Activities at Satara Rest Camp include guided bush walks, and morning, night and day game drives in the company of trained field guides, bush breakfasts and braais, seasonal kids educational programmes, wildlife films on the big screen daily except Sundays, Sweni Bird Hide located on the Sweni River about 30 km from camp, Ratel Pan Bird Hide located on the Timbavati/Roodewal road about 35 km from camp, and through prior arrangement with the camp, catered traditional dances can be arranged.
