I was warmly received during a load shedding session. In the room was already a flask with hot water for nice afternoon coffee. I also received a list of restaurants ahead of time where I could order or eat dinner. My basset hound had a great time frolicking in the garden and was just as welcome as I was. Adine and her mother are genuinely kind people.
This guest house is a very safe place for me as a single woman to spend the night. My car is also safe. The Magneto lamp was charged for the load shedding which started at 6pm that evening and a flask of boiling water was waiting for me. I slept well.

It really is a nice feeling to stop at Spes Bona after the long journey from Cape Town or Pretoria. You know your room will be neat and clean. Hot water and warm bed, even on a freezing cold day in Colesberg.

Let's face it: travellers can have terrible experiences in Colesberg. Who of us have not had a horrible night in Colesberg after all day on the N1. I have certainly had my share of deeply disappointing accommodation in Colesberg. Sure, it's a grind for the owners of the countless establishment, because mostly it's one-nighters they're dealing with, and that's a pain. But if that's what you're up for, at least put some heart into it. This is exactly what we found at Spes Bona - a whole lot of good, old-fashioned heart. We had had car trouble on the way, so arrived very late, but that didn't stop the warm, hearty welcome. We were thrilled to fall into clean, comfy beds and it was indeed delightful to experience the cleanliness, comfort and attention to detail. When our car wouldn't start (again) next morning, we were plied with coffee, rusks and home-made cookies and made to feel like old family friends. Quite apart from the genuine hospitality, the room was perfect in every respect. We couldn't have wished for better, and from now on, I won't be browsing for accommodation in Colesberg. I'll just cut out the nuisance and go straight to Spes Bona.

It was great to get to Spes Bona after a long day's driving. We were warmly welcomed, everything explained and allowed to settle. Advise on where to eat and get supplies was readily given. The room was clean and comfortable and a nice touch was the little gift of a spekboom to take home.

Good value for money. The room I was in looked out onto a main street and a heavy vehicle switched its enjin on at 4:15 outside which sounded like a car alarm and woke me up. So ask for a room that is not across the street.
It's not a complaint, just an observation: the hot water takes a long time to heat up.

Many trucks come to shop at OK shopping center which is specially open for them until 22:00. Their noise and diesel fumes keep you awake until late at night.

Spes Bona is a perfect guesthouse for overnight rest, especially if you are driving between Cape Town and Durban or between Cape Town and Gauteng cities. Place is not a 5 star hotel but it is super clean, well managed and the hosts are two nice ladies who will go an extra mile to accommodate any requirements. Because we checked in on a holiday when all shops and restaurants in that small town were closed, they prepared a delicious dinner for everyone and we enjoyed it. Rooms are spacious, the place is safe, OK Supermarket across the road, garages in close proximity, N1 highway really close. Enough parking, nice clean garden and very homely.
We ended our New Year in the peaceful surroundings of Colesberg as we wanted to spend longer with family in Worcester. Spes Bona Guest House was available for our half way overnight choice and it was a great choice. As a family, we decided to go out for the New Year, but upon our arrival at Spes Bona, the tranquility of the surroundings made us decide to just relax "at home" as a family and enter the New Year together. Thank you very much again for the wonderful sleepover.

We rented a room for me, my husband and my two grown sons. My girlfriend decided at the last minute to drive along and stay with us. Spes Bona immediately made a plan and put an inflatable mattress for her in our room with the same bedding we had. She slept wonderfully with us there. They didn't think twice to help us. They were fantastic. All the little things that we didn't even think about, they just did for us. It's definitely worth it.

Spes Bona is the ideal overnight stay for a tired traveler after a long journey.
This is our third time staying at Spes Bona Guest House. The stay itself was peaceful, and our little dog was also welcome. The only problem I have is that the guest house is located opposite the main supply route to the town. The heavy vehicles that use this route throughout were something to get used to. Despite this, we rested and slept wonderfully, and were ready to resume our journey the next morning. As mentioned, we were kindly received and soon felt at home. We would recommend the guest house to prospective overnight travelers at any time.

Just after our arrival at Colesberg, the entire town's power was off until about 4am the next morning. The two ladies at Spes Bona went out of their way to make us feel as comfortable and welcome as possible. The room was spacious, clean, tastefully furnished and a pleasure to spend the night in. It was good value for money and highly recommended.

We often let children sleep over there, but were disappointed with the accommodation due to the following reasons. The mattresses in the unit we used are totally useless. This makes a good night's rest impossible. The noise of trucks that stop there all night in the street.

Adine and her husband gave as a warm welcoming and immediatly made us feel at home. They recently took over the place and spent a lot of money renovating to get this place up to the excellent standard it is today. The rooms are well equipped with everything needed for a convenient stopover. Everything is clean, neat and in working order. I will definitely be returning. Adine, sorry for leaving so early the next morning. We could even say a proper goodbye. Next time, we'll stay for a bit longer.
Adene is a really hospitable, easy-going hostess. She made us feel so welcome and immediately brought a bunch of toys for my little ones when we walked into our lovely, cool room. We slept peacefully, everything was great and the room was so beautifully decorated and painted. I will definitely stop by again on my way to the Cape!

The rooms are very spacious and very clean. Our four-footed kid could run around in the garden after a long drive in the car. We slept well and ordered delicious pizzas from JC based on a recommendation from Arline.

The new owners put in a lot of effort to spuce up the place and also to make it wheelchair friendly, also the bathrooms. Delicious breakfast can be booked. Will stay there again when on my way to George or Cape Town.

We stayed at Spes Bona on our way to Joburg from Cape Town. We were travelling with 2 dogs. We stayed in Jean Room and there was space outside for the dogs to play and the room was big and neat. The electric blanket was lovely and the rusks were a treat in the cold. Will visit again.

I would think that she might consider placing a small fridge in a central location, where one can keep items cold, especially in the warmer days when it may be needed. We have no criticisms, and our little dog himself also felt at home there.
The room was clean and tidy and we were warmly received. It is not a 'fancy' place but meets the description of neat, centrally located overnight facilities. Will sleep there again.

We had a great time staying in the apartment unit, Jean. Everything you need for an overnight stop.
We moved from Pretoria to the Western Cape and used Colesburg as a stopover. The place is clean and well appointed. The bed is very comfortable. There was only a bare fridge, but for just one night's sleep it was perfect.
Received very kindly and was able to rest well before our next day's drive. Located near two nice restaurants.
We have stayed here many times and are always happy to be back.

As a single person, it was a pleasant experience for me.
The guest house is well located as far as Colesberg is concerned. The parking seems to be quite safe. The room was marked as having a shower and a bath, but it was only a bath with a shower head about chest height. Unfortunately, during the water problems that the town experienced, even the shower head was not functional. There were some basic amenities that could make the place more comfortable. No microwave was available communally which made it very difficult with a baby. There are also no counters to even prepare a sandwich on. The room itself was wonderfully cool all evening, and with a counter, a microwave and a working shower head the stay could have been much more pleasant. The price given the facilities was therefore somewhat high. Our room key was also lost after leaving it at the designated location in the morning, which calls into question the actual security of the premises.
Price and description as "luxury" led us to believe we would have air-conditioning. We didn't. The unit was not "luxury": "comfortable" would be a better description. Price was too high for standard of accommodation. Fridge had been switched off prior to our arrival, so we woke up to a pool of water on the floor and all of our frozen food thawed. The advertising offered breakfast by arrangement on arrival. We were informed no breakfast was available.

A delicious bowl of warm biscuits was provided to us free of charge. I especially like the location of the guest house, because it is located right across from the OR. Clean place, warm blanket on the bed was a plus point for the cold, would have preferred a bathroom that was completely closed, but otherwise everything was fine.
The bathroom door and heating were inadequate. There was not enough space and benches for the suitcases. The noisy trucks next door were disturbing at night.
