The owner of that place was very rude. The room looked like it was clean but full of big spiders, it was so unprofessional. It was so uncomfortable, and I felt unsafe as we had to sleep knowing that the gate can not even be locked.
The accommodation does not include children so if you book a family room it does not mean that it includes children. Also neat and comfortable.
Our host was wonderful, energetic and friendly. The accommodation was clean, comfortable and everything we needed. Check-in, Check-out was simple. Security was not a factor at all.
The rooms are very neat and clean.
My only recommendation, is for the host to make the check-out times at least 10:00 or 11:00, 09:00 is too early, especially for those who drove for long hours.

We spent one night at Stone Ridge on the way to Knysna in December 2021. This was a sentimental visit as we'd stayed over several years ago on a similar trip. Our previous stay was absolutely memorable with what can be described as 'award winning food' and lovely comfortable accommodation. We booked here based on our previous experience. The place is under new management and although the rooms have been renovated it is somewhat 'cold'. Though there's a huge bar, no dinner is served at the premises which is a minus. A good stopover though!
Michelle's service is great with great amenities. One cannot ask for more. Michelle also gave directions to the bridge under the Gariep dam embankment which was a breathtaking experience to see the dam embankment from that angle. Will definitely visit there again.

Brief overnight stay just to visit the Gariep Dam. The hostess Michelle was very informative regarding the dam and the surrounding area and enjoyed an informative chat with her. Most welcoming.
Beds not sufficient for adults (bunk beds), unstable and broken, linen unironed. Floors full of cracks, shower and roof moldy in bathroom. No hair dryer. Overpriced for facilities.
Would recommend this place to anyone. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Felt welcome from the point of arrival. The room is clean and stylish. The staff gave a great recommendation for dinner, a restaurant next to the local OK called Tjailatyd. We had an amazing time!
Quiet peaceful accommodation. Very clean and tidy. Hostess is very friendly and very pleasant. Her bar is definitely a winner for very thirsty guests. Children enjoyed the pool.

The guest house is well laid out and the rooms all have air conditioners in them, which is a big plus in the karoo.
Bedding and rest clean. Everything works but there is one thing that should be paid attention to: We were 4 adults and the unit has a double bed and a bunk bed. The bunk bed is really not suitable for adults and we were worried that the wooden construction's link pins would break. Every little movement causes the whole construction to move with the result that it does not promote a good night's rest. Other than that it was pleasant.
Upon our arrival, we were kindly received by the host and taken to our room. Upon walking in, I said it was not the room I had booked. There was no four poster bed as shown in the photos. I booked this specifically because my wife likes the type of bed. I was then told that the mosquito netting system had been removed because people vandalized and made it dirty. No other options were offered. The room was the most expensive option because it has a shower and bath, has a view, and is more luxurious. Other problems were that there is no soap for the bath. There are only bottles on the wall by the sink and in the shower. The shower has shampoo and bubble bath bottles and the sink has hand cream and body wash. There was one loose bottle of hand soap. A bar of soap would be a better option for the bath than a loose bottle of hand soap. The corners of the shower were dirty and the room's wall needed a paint job. The AC unit is also fixed with a piece of blue wire so that the front part does not fall off. The room is not a R1200.00 room but maybe a R800.00 room. We expected a lot more when you see what the pictures show. Pros - good bed, location, parking, coffee and tea, fridge, fans, close to everything. There was a pool and bar but we didn't use it.

We can really recommend Stoneridge Guesthouse at Gariepdam! Michelle, the owner was personally there to welcome us and make us feel at home. Breakfast was delicious and rooms very comfortable. Only downside is the stairs and will be difficult for some people to get from parking area to room. But that's the price you have to pay for my beautiful view!

Although Stoneridge does not overlook the Gariep Dam, it does offer a nice view of the Karoo. The room is wonderfully spacious and very clean. Can definitely recommend it for an overnight stay.
Lovely place to stay between Cape Town and Jo'burg.
Very nice and tidy and perfectly located between Pretoria and St Francis, but made it very clear that children are not welcome. Nothing said on website about children. Made us feel a bit unwelcome after the second time (on arrival) that she mentions that children are not actually allowed to stay in the rooms. One child was two years old and one was still 10 months old.

Would definitely recommend this stop for any travelers coming from Cape Town to Johannesburg. The 9 hour drive is a nice halfway mark between the cities and you are greeted by a lovely room to rest and be ready for travels the next day!
We were warmly welcomed and had a comfortable stay although we arrived early hoping to have a good view of the dam - the pictures we saw are somewhat misleading. Spacious room and bathroom well equipped, but we would have preferred a queen size bed, especially in such a spacious room.

There was a fire so there was smoke everywhere and no water or electricity so we didn't sleep over but drove on. The hostess was not very friendly about email correspondence or when we were there to check in. Furthermore, it is mentioned on the website that you can book for dinner, but when I inquired, I got an unfriendly email saying that she no longer offers dinner. Furthermore, babies are not allowed, maybe in the family room, but not in the others.
I had a great appreciation for decent TV with DSTV. The air conditioning also worked great. I would stay here again.
We booked for bed and breakfast. We were unkindly informed that breakfast was not included. At R1300 for 2 in a room that could barely fit a bed it is ridiculous. The owner was unfriendly from arrival to departure.

What a gem in the Free State! Nice to get there after a long day's journey and the room is neat and clean and beautiful. Dinner is offered even though we didn't make use of it. The view from the rooms are beautiful and we will definitely make use of the guesthouse again and recommend it to anyone travelling to Cape Town or Johannesburg.
The rooms are small. Definitely not a suitable size for a family. The dinner was very expensive.
Eat well. Good view from the two porch rooms over the valley and mountains in the distance. Disadvantage for older people with luggage are steep stairs to rooms and dining room.

Uncomfortable beds that needs replacement. Painted and cemented bedroom floor. Dirty mosquito net over the bed. General room cleanliness needs attention. Sherry jug and glasses appeared not clean and sherry itself not fresh. We took a drive to view the dam so the location was a problem for us.
We were received in a friendly manner and the accommodation is very comfortable, clean and ideal for our 2 dogs. It was a good experience and a good choice for an overnight place on the way to Hermanus. The only disappointment we had was that we would have liked to arrange beforehand for dinner as in the advertisement, but no one answered the phone during the week. Other than that the owner never came to meer us. Seeing as how we left at 06:00, naturally we missed breakfast.

Pet friendly and safe parking of primary importance. Stoneridge meets these requirements. It is a pity that they do not keep anything other than SAB products in the beer fridge.

The guest house no longer has the same manager as when we were there in 2013. The place is dirty. Breakfast was relatively little food. It was freezing cold and we waited a long time for it. Breakfast room was dirty. No longer ensures such good value for money. The place had much more character then. Breakfast was cold and bad and accommodation was dirty and unprepared for guests.

The rooms are clean. But I did not receive any receipt for the 50% I paid. The sheets were not ironed or had been used by someone else before we were there. This is the second time we have stayed there and last time everything was 100% ok. I will not stay there again.

Even though we were helped with a wrong booking, the room is uncomfortably small with too many pillows that there is no place to store if you need to sleep. So much so that my spouse's personal very light cushion of 40 years was almost lost and they didn't even get back to us about inquiries. The TV is plugged in above the kitchen area and you have to lie across the bed to watch TV. There is no place for chairs to sit, everything is done on and over the bed. The many small luxuries in no way make up for the inconvenience.
Had a great stay, it was by no means a guest house for old people with all the stairs!

The rooms are beautifully decorated and extremely comfortable. There is more than enough space for a camper cot for young children, and the owners were incredibly accommodating!
