We had a lovely overnight stay at Sundowner. The owner was charming. However, her pet dog was a little overzealous when we arrived and nipped my husband on his hand - apparently it was not supposed to be let out at all!
Except for the power outage not caused by the accommodation, my stay was excellent!
The facilities are good and clean. The hostess was helpful and friendly. The location is good for quick entry to Addo.

Very nice stay. Well equipped, clean and tidy. Couldn't connect to the wifi at first and the host helped us immediately. The one photo indicated jetties on the river, creating the expectation that the unit faced the river, which is not the case, but that does not take away from how comfortable our stay was. Can really recommend Sundowner!

We were going to Addo Elephant Park so chose to stay close by. Sundowner Guest House was very comfortable and quiet and very close to the park. Just off the N2. Would highly recommend.

We stayed here the night before and after walking the Alexandria walking trail. We were 12 people and Michelle gladly accommodated us. She is a very friendly hostess and was always available on WhatsApp if we needed something or wanted to ask something. The guest house has all the basic things one needs for self-catering accommodation. This information is indeed in the description of the unit when you book, but it might just be good to note that the family unit only has one bathroom, so for 8 people you only have to plan your shower/bath and toilet visits carefully. However, there was enough hot water for everyone. It impressed us a lot.
The accommodation is neat, clean and a short walk down the road you are next to the Sondagsrivier. Close to gas station and Spar. Just across the main road is the beautiful Addo Elephant Park where you can drive around for days and see something different every day. Close enough to Port Elizabeth and the Sunshine Coast Route. Sundowner Guest House is a winner through and through. Thank you for your friendly chats and valuable information. Will visit again and that's a fact.
We arrived late in the evening after a lovely day in Addo, everything was well explained ahead of time and we enjoyed a peaceful night here.
Very clean and tidy accommodation.
Terribly easy to find the unit. The rooms were lovely spacious with open sliding doors that let in a nice breeze on hot days, the kitchen was fully equipped. The Kwik Spar is not too far. Unit was nice and clean upon our arrival. The fishing was pretty quiet, but very easy to get to the waters. All in all it was a lovely weekend.
Everything was there that we needed. I can only mention the reception. We did not receive the gate code in advance and the person on site did not know of any arrangements. There is no reception with sign at small gate and/or bell. So we had to go around to find out who we are and what the gate code is for us.
Very comfortable and it had all that I needed to make my stay pleasant. I will be back and I will recommend Sundowner Guest House to friends. Very convenient near the south gate of the Addo Elephant Park and a perfect location.
Nice barbecue, slept and walked along the river.
Bedding old and stained in places. Had no water all weekend. Driver brought us 20L of water which we boiled for bathing. I would like to make the decision myself to perhaps postpone the weekend, and not even want to get 20L to wash on Saturday night.

This place is a nice spacious area with everything you need. Thank you to Joan and Johan. You are brilliant guesthouse managers who go out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. We already felt at home with the beat!
Very kindly received and shown how everything works. Also where the nearest shops and restaurants are located. Very nice and close to the Southern gate of Addo Elephant Park.
Would like some burglar bars in front of the windows that open. The fridge's noise is also a problem, especially in the evenings.

The self catering units are a good size - my 2 year old daughter and I spent two nights while visiting Addo Elephant Park. The rooftop of self-catering units gives a tiny glimpse of the Sundays river. Wooden deck patio area in advertising photos is now private family accommodation so should not really be on website - probably better views of river from there. There is a lovely communal braai area outside the units and another on the other side of the pebble parking/outside area. Johan was a very helpful and friendly host - enjoyed our stay.

The units are clean and tidy. The units get western sun and are uncomfortably warm. The units have no air conditioning and we couldn't sleep at night so hot we got.
The pictures are not what we got. The apartment didn't have decent curtains in the bathroom and kitchen, it shines through, we had to hang things in front of windows so people couldn't see in from outside and to try to block the bloody sun. The fan in the roof is faulty and loose and means pretty much nothing, we couldn't use it. The fan against the wall is also of such a nature that it does not help, luckily we took our own fan. The accommodation was like an oven inside. We toured in the Northern Cape and Namibia and expected a cooler room after the 3500 km of heat and dust. The room doesn't cool down either and it was a bitter two nights. We found mouse droppings in the bathroom, on the toilet bowl and bathroom floor. Pillow not on standard, we used our own. Braai facilities smoke so much that you have to stand away until the fire is burning properly, braai is not attached properly to the wall, smoke seeps everywhere, chimney too low, so all the smoke surrounds you when you stand there. Grids crooked and crooked, once again used our own. Shower is of such a nature that you burn and cool down 10 times at once. Every time someone else in other rooms turns on a faucet or flushes a toilet, this happens. Not nice at all. We couldn't get out of there early enough on our last morning.
First visit to Eastern Cape - very satisfied with accommodation and everything. Kitchen well equipped. Conveniently located to visit places in the area. Again - water conservation is requested - facility can provide water saving shower heads to help with this. In general - recommendable.
We just wanted proper facilities for an overnight stay and it met all expectations.
Would definitely recommend this place to my friends and my colleagues.
