The sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking. The food was some of the best and the decor comparable to any top hotel in the world. We were literally carried on our hands. Sweetfontein is on my list of favourites!
We were actually quite disappointed in our stay. The rate we had to pay for the 4 of us and for what we got is not worth it at all! Plus, the room listed on our reservation was not the room we stayed in. You pay extra for the children, but for them there was a rock hard sofa set up. The room and decor was very old. The bathroom was not completely clean, and the carpets in the room full of dust. It actually looks like we got a room they don't use much.
Place is beautiful. People are very friendly. Unfortunately the room's maintenance lagged behind with some things not working. The room we rented was rented as "deluxe family room", but we felt it was hopelessly too small for 3 people. however, was brilliant at taking the feedback. The farm remains very beautiful, it's our 3rd time back on the farm.
I booked accommodation here for my mother. She can't stop talking about the hospitality and great customer service of the team. Furthermore, the place was neat and beautiful. She will now be a regular visitor as the place is now her chosen stopover on her travels between her children. Well done.
It is always the most wonderful experience when we stay there. We already plan our route so that we can always turn there. Every nook and cranny has something to show with so many inspiring ideas.

We were on our way back home from the Kgalagadi, and were amazed at the beauty, the particular attention to detail regarding the decorations, cleanliness and hospitality at Sweetfontein. We felt at home and pampered!

Every year we sleep over in Britstown on the way back to Pretoria, and discovered Sweetfontein that year. The staff is so friendly. the venue stunning. We will surely see Sweetfontein on each of our road trips St Helena Bay.

We stayed in Room No.'s 9 and 12. Rooms need some minor maintenance. Showers were either cold or boiling hot water. The shower head in Room 12 needs to be replaced. Dinner is way overpriced.

Not ideal for people with mobility difficulties. Vegetarians need to keep reminding establishment of dietary choices. Fantastic stay! As a vegetarian, I had to remind the waiter and chef all the time of my dietary limitations.

We were looking for accommodation on the way back from the Cape. I keyed in Britstown and didn't realize it was on a farm. The farm is equipped with its own restaurant and shop, but it is not the right place to spend the night if you want to relax and turn on the TV. You pay for the place's breakfast per item. Dinner costs R220 per person, there are 2 choices and dessert we had no choice - it was a stewed pear and piping hot custard. It's hopelessly overpriced when you consider that it costs R1900 per night to sleep. The location is not good.
Sweetfontein is located in beautiful farm surroundings, would love to spend more time here. The rooms and bathrooms are very comfortable, luxurious and spacious. Our dinner was top notch, soup, lamb curry and lamb chops, with delicious pears cooked in wine and custard. Would perhaps just suggest that a light breakfast could be included in the price as it is far out of town.
There are no alternatives provided for power outages, so be prepared and keep an eye on Eskom's schedules.

Everything was perfect. Nice rooms, nice location and perfect for an overnight stop. Room upgraded without additional money and without us asking because it was not very full.

If I had the money, I'd spend a full week or two at Sweetfontein. It's the perfect place to destress and completely relax. The food was also outstanding (lamb shank), and the staff is lovely. The decor is beautiful, beds are heavenly and it's really clean (and I'm exceptionally fussy).

Just one or two recommendations, the shower was leaking in our room and caused the hole bathroom to flood under water. The bathrooms behind the reception area was also very dirty the morning we checked out.

I have never been so surprised by a place like that. My booking was on a wrong route and because I made a mistake we had to take a 40 km detour through the Karoo to get to the place. I was so happy about our turn. The place is beautiful, no effort is spared. Friendly staff, not to mention the beautiful spa and lovely treatments. A place out of the books!

Situated in the most beautiful Karoo landscape, quite unbelievable dusk sky. Modern facilities, slightly too glitzy for our taste. Somewhat bizarre place that is both a hunting lodge and a wedding venue. Usual mid-Karoo overpriced dinner - captive markets will do that.

I am a regular traveler and would rate Sweetfontein as a definite 5-star choice. Situated not far from the main highway road, this guesthouse provides you with an unforgettable experience to awake the love and respect for the Karoo and it's beauty all over again. There is a variety of rooms to choose from, each unique and stunningly decorated with a modern but classic feel. It's also a wedding venue with beautiful surroundings that will make every memory and photo a master piece. The staff ensures that you have everything you need to feel relaxed and at home, whilst enjoying scenery of various farm animals and some wild life. There is dinner and breakfast options, both a delicious experience. Overall a safe and tranquil stay, on my way to Stellenbosch the next morning. I highly recommend this wonderful guesthouse.

Sweetfontein is like an oasis in the Karoo. This guest farm overflows with creativity and little surprises around every corner. Dinner was delicious and value for money with a beautiful view over the Karooveld. Besides being a guest farm, it is also a beautiful wedding venue that would be perfect for a weekend wedding. My only complaint is that our bed's mattress has seen better days. The mattress is very thin and with every turn you hear the springs in the mattress crack and press into your back. The description on the website was that the room had a king size bed which was not the truth. It was a double or maybe a queen size.
Very nice lodge. Was a welcome break and we stayed 2 nights while traveling through the Karoo. The various stoeps that look over the Karo plains are stunning. Had a nice mountain bike ride on the trail on the farm. Dinner was very nice and you can just sit quietly and admire the Karoo.
The pools were wonderful and the food was so tasty - especially the lamb shank. We loved Sweetfontein so much, that we decided to stay another night. The only thing I would say is that Room 6 is very exposed to people walking past, and so it was necessary to sleep with the doors and curtains closed - which I don't like to do in the Karoo - especially because we don't use an aircon. If you are staying for more than one night, the family room is a must, but the cost is quite high.
Sweetfontein is a great place to relax and be served. This was a 2 night stop over at the end of our holiday, and it was very relaxing. The hostesses go out of their way to serve you and ensure you are comfortable. The food is delicious. Points however to improve on, your booking site and website indicate DStv, there was no TV. I am not sure the beds are queen. The unit was not completely serviced, no water as indicated, one coffee serving and the bathroom dustbin still had rubbish in from the previous guests not something I expect from a boutique lodge. Still great accommodation that I will recommend to friends.
Light in bathroom not working. No bath mat. Meal delicious lamb shank, but staff started moving things from the table before we had completed our meal. In the morning we had the opposite. Finished our fruit but staff did not move the fruit bowls even after the breakfast was served. We could not believe that a boutique farm stay would not serve poached eggs. Otherwise we enjoyed our room, the pool and the scenery around the farm.

When you drive to the farm you don't know what to expect because you are driving on a dirt road and from the moment you get there the place just has a luxurious but comfortable feel.

Sweetfontein is like an oasis. The decor, detail and sculpture in the gardens are unique and a feast for the eyes. The staff are friendly and dinner was excellent. The only criticism is the beds which are not very comfortable and did not offer choice in terms of size. Would have liked twin beds and king size options.
Definitely one of those places that the pictures don't give the full picture, because it was much more beautiful. The dinner was also something special. Usually when you book at a dog friendly place you are setting yourself up for sub-standard. Certainly not the case with Sweetfontein, one of the few highlights in 2020.
A cellphone call to open the front gate. A warm welcome after a long drive. A lodge that is cleverly designed, with lots of stoep-seating. A comfortable bed and abundant hot water. A good long walk on the farm with good breakfasts and delicious suppers as the reward. Interestingly we were not told of the possibility of having a massage, which another guest had mentioned to us. No information on the history of the farm either which was a pity.

Dorette and her people went out of their way to make sure that the cold and very strong wind did not become a factor. The meals were 5 star. We would go out of our way to stay there again!!!

Sweetfontein meets all the requirements - beautiful surroundings, very elegant rooms, good service, good restaurant, air conditioning in all rooms and 3 swimming pools. It's a great environment for city kids to explore. I would recommend it any day.
It is a very beautiful place and environment. The cleaning of rooms definitely needs attention. General maintenance needs attention. Bar and restaurant are very nice. I suggest someone there to help with luggage as the parking lot is very far from the rooms.
Sweetfontein is something special and a pleasant surprise in an area where such a place would not be expected. Decor and attention to detail speak of good taste. The service and food match this.
We were greeted by Jevonne who immediately made us feel at home. Spacious and well equipped rooms, cozy and beautiful view over the Karooveld. Beautiful main building where everyone eats together on the large farm porch. A real oasis in the great Karoo!
There are many surprising places.
Good facilities and close enough to the N12 to turn off. Good opportunity to experience the Karoo first hand. Watch out for the turnoff to the lodge. On the expensive side.
Thank you for so much caring and the genuine Karoo hospitality and that you use every opportunity to make guests' stay as pleasant as possible. We were spoiled with delicious meals. And Saturday night's braai was a feast. True karoo environment, but with the best quality and around every corner there's a new creative festival. Thanks also for all the trouble with arranging a doctor on De Aar and this on a Saturday morning! It really was a huge extra. There is so much to experience.

Friendly welcome and in Afrikaans. Accommodation and facilities of top quality. An arrival & departure code by SMS before arrival and departure would be convenient. Replace the coffee bar/kettle and fridge with a bedside table in the master bedroom, can instead be moved to the adjacent bedroom.
We were totally blown away by the beauty of the lodge and surrounding Karoo veld. Service and food was excellent, loved the varieties of gin on offer. Only regret is that we could not stay for another night or two.

Thank you to the helpful staff who welcomed us and our Labrador with such friendliness. The rooms are fantastic and very well-equipped with anything one might need for an overnight stay. I especially loved the availability of towels for swimming. The pool offered a refreshing option for cooling down. We enjoyed the Karoo lamb dinner.

Sweetfontein is an oasis in the middle of the Karoo, with the most amazing accommodation and we are already busy planning our next trip there. The stylish accommodation, together with the landscape, compliment each other. It was an awesome experience!
Pleasant experience and good food.
We had a room which is spacious with bath and shower. The room's veranda overlooks the plains of the Karoo. Our first night on our trip to the Karoo was here, we booked another night on the way back and it was for sure the highlight of our Karoo visit. We booked dinner one night and a barbecue another. The barbecue was delicious, good value for money. They deck for us outside where we could see the beautiful sunset. Really delicious. The dinner was lamb shanks, very nice for the evening we arrived late. However, the braai pack is better value for money. Breakfast also nice. I would recommend asking for the room with the bath and shower, it was heavenly. In general, the place is well maintained and gives you the silence and karoo experience you want. Recommendations to make it even better: an outdoor mat to wipe the thorn from your shoes otherwise you will carry thorns into the room and later step on them barefoot. The light in the toilet: make it separate so that you are not bothered if you want to visit the toilet in the evening. Coffee machine is awesome, but difficult to access in the drawer. We will be back for sure.

Received at the car on arrival and taken directly to our rooms, we went to cool off in the pool and took our own meat with us to barbecue. There was simply grilled cake and salad made and we ate deliciously at the tastefully set table! Will definitely stay there again, but definitely not just for a night! Wow!
The rooms are beautiful and luxurious. The lodge has everything you need - air conditioning in the room; 2 swimming pools against the heat and comfortable places to hang out on the stoep. There was literally nothing missing. They are very accommodating with any requests to make your stay as comfortable as possible.

Dinner and breakfast very poor for the price. Dinner is set down with 3 small pieces of meat with some patas and a hunk of rice. No appetizer or dessert. There was no wine list, only one beer. Breakfast, 2 eggs, piece of sausage and bacon, no bread. Total cost R430. Never again.
Room great. View amazing. Dinner not good. The food was already standing on the table when we arrived. Cold! No entree. No dessert. Lemonade for drink. Breakfast was poor. No orange juice, no fruit or yogurt. Had to ask two times for tea.

Beautiful, safe accommodation. Few places here and there that need attention: no soap in the main bedroom's en suite, no coffee mugs in the room and only 2 glasses. But they sorted this out in a really friendly way when we reported it to the host. Unfortunately we booked the room without DStv, but the free WiFi made up for it. One issue: no dinner choice. Kids meals cost exactly the same as adult meals, R150 per person. Lamb stew, rice and home-made lemonade for dinner. I recommend giving a choice beforehand, especially for the kids. Breakfast not included, we had to pay R90 per breakfast, irrespective of size. Porridge, bacon, sausage, egg and cereal.
When all 3 of your children ask you "Mommy can we please stay longer" this is the first sign ... so much space, and the Karoo air can't be described to anyone! We were friendly welcomed and the rooms were warmed up for the July cold. The decor is a work of art! The food was hearty, with freshly baked "roosterkoek" for starters. What more can you ask for?
Suggest placing mats next to the bed to ward off the winter chill when getting out of bed.

This farm is neat and beautiful, comfortable accommodation. The family room is spacious and far removed from the rooms to ensure that the children aren't a nuisance.
Friendliest reception ever and very hospitable. Just off our route between Calvinia and Kimberley with the advantage of it being far from the main roads and quiet. The guests socialising until quite late at night in the dining room next to us was somewhat annoying but not unacceptable. The shower's water pressure was a problem, but we were told it would be fixed immediately. Apart from that the suite was lovely.

We had our two scnhauzer doggies with us the peopel at the lodge were so accommodating. We also had a toddler with us and they prepared the dearest little bed for him at no extra cost. Delicious, home-made food and we got some great rest before heading to thte Cape. I will definitely visit Sweetfontein Boutique Farm Lodge again and I also recommend it to anyone.
We were pleasantly surprised by how beautiful our room was. Neat with an aircon which was a blessing against the warm sun. The staff were friendly and helpful. Dinner was unbelievable and the portions more than enough. There was no DStv and WiFi in the newly built rooms. But we didn't really miss it. The environment is tranquil and the swimming pool a hit.

Was an absolute pleasure to stay here, the people were only too willing to help and make the stay as pleasant as possible. If you drive down to the cape then this is definitely the place to sleep over! 10 out of 10.
The location is great for us who often travel between Gauteng and Mossel Bay. The accommodation and meals are very good as well as the staff's very good friendly service. The lodge's decor and facilities are some of the best. The indication on the LekkeSlaap website of 15 km from Britstown to the dirt road turning off to the lodge is just wrong - it's 25 km.
Very nice stay with friendly and helpful staff. Will definitely visit again.
