The Cockpit
The Cockpit
-
Decorated in a wash of creams, blues and yellows, reminiscent of an English cottage, with portraits of the owner’s days as a glider pilot, this little cottage is a quiet, comfortable and unpretentious base from which to explore Franschhoek’s sophisticated restaurants, galleries, markets and shops – which are all just up the road.
The Cockpit has 1 upstairs mezzanine loft-style bedroom overlooking the double-volume living area, and containing a king-size bed, a shower en suite with a toilet and washbasin, plenty of drawers, ceiling mounted TV, a lot of books, plus an eccentric leather swivel chair with large desk. A stained-glass window with blue, red and green panes throws an ethereally warm light into the room, while a sash window lets in views of the lush garden below.
The open-plan, country-style kitchen is equipped with a fridge-freezer, gas hob, electric oven, a free-standing prep island, and everything will will need to whip up meals. There is a small 4-seater farmhouse dining table. The kitchen leads, through French doors out onto a covered patio with a wrought-iron 6-seater dining table and chairs, and separate, relaxed seating area, ideal for long lazy lunches under the trees.
The cosy sitting room has 2 large sofas, a large armoire hiding a TV with DStv, DVD and CD player and a wood-burning fireplace. Downstairs also houses a separate guest bathroom with toilet, washbasin and a large shower; as well as a separate scullery and laundry room off the kitchen.
Eat alfresco on the covered patio, laze on a lounger next to the splash pool, or let yourself sink into the oversized sofas in front of the terracotta wood-burning stove, with a glass of wine and a book. Wi-Fi is available throughout the cottage.
