Friends highly recommended The Lighthouse and we were still pleasantly surprised. Everything is clean, beautiful rooms and comfortable beds with everything you need.
We have previously stayed at this venue and it has maintained its high standards.
1) The room floor needed a proper sweep. 2) We requested a room with a shower or shower over the bath. We were allocated a room with a handshower at the bath taps. The water pressure was to low in order to shower and difficult to get the water heat at an acceptable temperature. It was not a proper shower over the bath. Effectively we had an unpleasant sponge wash. 3) We stayed at the Lighthouse a few times but the last time was a disappointment. Will not book at the Lighthouse again.
After the long journey, the guest house was like an oasis of calm! After a lovely, restful night's rest, the juicy breakfast in the beautiful dining room was the icing on the cake!

She also recommended a restaurant nearby that made the most delicious buffalo wings and delivered in literally less than 2 minutes! Our room was neat, spacious, clean and very comfortable and had everything we needed for our overnight stay. We felt well-rested for the start of the next leg of our journey. Almost no water pressure for bathroom amenities. No hot water, no backup system with load shedding. No feedback correspondence on request from breakfast time.

We have stayed at The Lighthouse many times. It's always clean and tidy. Family unit is nice and big and clean. I would recommend putting the double bed in the smaller room and all the children's beds in the larger room. The light from outside bothered me a bit during the night.

I was worried about the location, but was immediately reassured by the secure parking. Als has that "home away from home" look. Will definitely stay here again! The people were also kind enough to store our meat in the freezer overnight and were very friendly. Tops!

The Lighthouse Guesthouse was the perfect overnight stop. Good location close to many restaurants with secure parking inside. It may seem a bit busy outside the guest house, but once you drive through the gate it is dead quiet and very safe. The receptionist also gave us the load shedding times, as well as lamps. Will stay here again!
Colesberg is a pitiful stopover between Johannesburg and Cape Town. There are also restaurants and places to eat within easy walking distance of The Lighthouse Guesthouse.
We checked in during load shedding as well as on short notice - so it would probably be unfair to judge the scramble during reception as the norm. The room is spacious and comfortable. Do feel the "box" TV could be upgraded and WiFi was weak in room. We were very impressed with the effort made to forward an item that was left behind to us!
After a long day's travel, at least we were able to spend a peaceful night as a family. Was too cold to take a shower in the outdoor bathroom and the water pressure in the unit's bath was so weak that unfortunately we could not bathe or shower. With a disabled son over 2 meters tall, the bed that had a headboard and footboard didn't work for my two big men. But they made the best of bed and got a good night's rest.

Our visit to the Guest House was worth it as a start to our journey. Very comfortable and within walking distance of restaurants. Friendly and very helpful. This is a secure overnight facility. If necessary, we will use their service again.
Perfect place to spend the night. The parking lot is incredibly secure and can accommodate vehicles that need high ground clearance. Near a very good restuarant.
At the end of a long day on the road, there is no better rest than Lighthouse. Neat, cosy, places to eat nearby and parking really safe. You don't pack your vehicle empty for one night's stay.
I have rarely enjoyed such a friendly reception. Several nearby eateries made it easy to get a late meal.
It was bitterly cold in Colesberg, the electric blanket and air conditioner helped a lot.
The staff is very friendly and helpful. The electric blankets and air conditioning kept us warm on a cold night and the spacious rooms made our stay very comfortable. Just be careful when you check in, park at the gas station next door and make sure your doors are locked. The staff will let you in very quickly and show you where your safe parking is.

The ad is misleading as the unit we booked is definitely not what we got. We booked a two bedroom unit with two bathrooms and paid in advance because there was another single person traveling with us and we got an open plan unit with no privacy as the one bedroom part is open to the rest of the unit, no door . The second bathroom referred to is a shower outside on the porch. We were told they were fully booked, but at the end of the night it was just us and another unit where there were guests. The guest house is located along the busy main street right across from a wholesale shop, definitely not a quiet environment.

The ad is just misleading. The unit I booked shows there are 2 bathrooms, that's why I booked and what I paid for. The friendly lady who received us informed us that they do not have units with 2 bathrooms. She did say there was an outside bathroom we could use, however in the terrible cold it was not a solution.

My little dog and I drove down to the Cape alone and it was really nice to stay with them. There was even a water bowl and bed for my dog with a lawn where she could walk around. I also felt safe.

After an 8 hour long drive, The Lighthouse Guesthouse was a peaceful place to stop and spend the night. We checked in early and were escorted to the unit we booked. Parking for both our vehicle and trailer was right next to the unit. As requested, we gave advance notice that we were traveling with a trailer. The children could play and run around and didn't seem to disturb anyone. The unit was neat and well furnished. Will definitely choose The Lighthouse Guesthouse again as a midway stop.
It may not look like much when you look at the outside of this guest house. But inside the street noise is gone, the mountain peeks over the wall and the rooms are very luxurious! A very big plus for us was the location of the guest house, it's nice and close to all the places to eat.

The air conditioning in the room is essential in the summer and was really welcome. Very calm and quiet. One does not hear the other guests. DStv in room with plenty of channels to choose from. The most beautiful Karoo garden imaginable.

This guest house is very conveniently located in the center of town. Easy to find and with prompt service we were taken to our room straight away. Safety is very important to me and even though the guest house is on a busy street, they lock the gate and all the cars and guests are safe. Bedrooms are nicely and comfortably furnished.

The Lighthouse was a convenient stopover between Pretoria and Wilderness. The accommodation is dog friendly and we and our two miniature schnauzers had a lovely stay in the homely Butterfly Cottage with its cheerfully painted corridor wall, curtains and the most beautiful antique furniture that makes you feel safe. The bedding is crisp and towels are fluffy. The small garden is especially refreshing on a hot summer evening in the Karoo. The secure parking behind a gate off the street is a bonus.

The only gripe is the bed. A very uncomfortable night as the bed was too small for me and my husband whom is tall and a big guy. So we left feeling more tired than when we arrived.
The only problem is possible interference from adjoining rooms. We were in room no 4. In one of the adjacent rooms was a man and woman who talked until very late. They had no respect for other guests. This resulted in us having a very bad night because little sleep
Rooms are clean and tidy with air conditioning (much needed in the heat of the summer sun). What's really nice is that there are a few restaurants within walking distance of the accommodation. When we had just finished unpacking for the evening, we immediately hit the road to get something to eat (with a baby stroller).
Satisfied with service and cleanliness, the one shower was just a little weak with the water pressure and difficult to mix, then too hot and then too cold.

Lighthouse is very neat and clean. The rooms are nice and spacious. Unfortunately there were quite a few stains on our duvet, making it unacceptable. The loose carpets in the sleeping unit were also dirty. The sleeping units are so spacious, one can incorporate a small kitchen area through good space design, then there is no need to use the one in the hallway. Furthermore, it is really very cute and neat.

We booked in for an overnight stop home. The rooms were clean and the place was perfect.
We had a wonderful stay and the rooms were beautiful, clean and tidy. We immediately felt at home and the hospitality, friendliness and customer service was great! The location on the main street is not the best, as there were quite a lot of trucks passing by, but in the evening when we wanted to sleep it was wonderfully quiet. At least the location is otherwise good, as the Lighthouse is easy to find and there are beautiful sights on the main street such as the beautiful NG Church building and lots of nice restaurants and places to eat. We also felt safe at all times and had a great time walking around the streets of Colesberg and looking at everything.

Received in a friendly manner by a interesting lady that I met long ago, Tannie Blackie. I asked whether we could braai that evening and special arrangements were made in this regard. The rooms were clean and neat and the garden was lovely to sit and relax in after a long day on the road. At first I was afraid that the busy road in front of the guest house would be annoying, but I must admin that it wasn't any bother at all.

Although the room was neat enough, the location is not the greatest: off the main street and there is literally nothing to do in Colesberg. Even went to the local museum, which was a total disappointment. Colesberg is best regarded as a stop-over, but don't arrive too early as there is not much to do in town. The room was adequate, but we were eaten alive by the mosquitoes: there were so many of them we could not sleep and no insect repellent in the room, other than Doom for crawling insects. The owners should inform guests beforehand to pack Tabard and insect repellent. We did not expect mosquitoes in Colesberg and that in March. We were forced to use the sheet as a mosquito net, which meant sleeping with the sheet over ones head. We even tried to blow them away with the ceiling fan and put the air-con on its coldest and full ball, but this did not deter them at all. Not a great experience.

Slept at the room units in Loch Street. The room was very clean and tidy and is walking distance from restaurants. The room has air conditioning which helped a lot for the hot Karoo evening. Good customer service and reception.

Colesberg as a town is dirty and lack maintenance. The guesthouse is poorly organised, no tea or coffee in the rooms, must use a communal kitchen. Parking is not properly allocated. Of all the guesthouses I find the Lighthouse the least appealing.

It was our second time at Lighthouse. Comfortable, affordable for a family of 4. Also great for guests who has to depart early without breakfast. Will go back.

We had a great stay at Lighthouse. Everyone was very friendly and everything was in its place. We will stay at Lighthouse Guesthouse again in the future.
Will definitely stay there again. Tasteful decor and overall cleanliness was a big plus.
The place is rather old, but clean, with most basics in place. We were rather surprised to learn the morning of our departure that breakfast was not included in the price, which was rather high compared to other places we stayed at on our way to Cape Town through the Eastern Cape. We were not asked whether we wanted breakfast nor told that it will be extra should we want it, when we checked in. We took a walk trough the part of town where the lighthouse is situated and there were a few other places which looked much more interesting. There are lots of B&B's in Colesberg and I am sorry that I didn't take more time to search around - despite the fact that we only stayed for one night.

The reception was pathetic. We didn't even feel welcome at all. The shower was not clean. The carpets were full of dust. My daughter was lying on the bed and something bit her. There are not 3 restaurants opposite the guest house as stated. There is 1 opposite and the other 2 are further up the street. There was no place I would take my kids for dinner. WiFi is free, but there is no signal. The guest house is located in a bad location. I expected 3 single beds but got a double and a single bed. Overall it was an experience I don't want to have again. We left after 2 hours and drove on to Cape Town where we didn't arrive until midnight.
Everything was 100% ready for us upon our arrival and our room was very neat, well furnished and the location is excellent. Highly recommended for travelers!
The cottage that we had was adequate for the night that we spent there. We suggest that they put a microwave-friendly dish in the kitchen for guests who want to prepare food and not get takeaways.

Room probably 4 meters from road where trucks pass all night. We booked 2 rooms. We were placed in rooms that were as far apart as possible. No dining facilities. No KykNet. It was old and dirty. Very helpful. Rooms spacious and tidy, a bit old-fashioned. Linen was excellent, just too few blankets available, especially when it starts to get cold.
The accommodation, although clean, is in dire need of an upgrade. We felt as though we were sleeping in a museum! It even had that old musty smell. The TV only had 3 channels mostly in languages that we do not understand and when we found an English show, we had to watch a 30 year old episode of Dallas! With nothing else on offer we ventured out into the dark Main Street and had to scamper past a large gathering of shouting and scuffling locals.
On our way back from Knysna to Johannesburg, we thought it would be good to stop over in Colesberg to rest for the evening. What a mistake! Upon our arrival at the guest house, we were first received as if we were a problem. We were looked at with a feeling of 'how dare you knock here?' We were not asked at all if we would like to enjoy breakfast the next morning. By evening time, we drove about half an hour out of town for food, because no one could suggest a restaurant. We never saw the owner of the guesthouse again after we arrived. We ate our takeaways after first having to walk through the entire guest house to locate plates. I went to make coffee in the dirtiest kitchen ever and noticed that ALL the doors were open. Every dear door that entered the guest house from the outside was open. I will never stay here again in my life. An unsafe, grumpy place.

The location of the room was a problem. The guest house is located on a busy street, so there was constant traffic. If I were to stay there again, I would ask for a room at the back of the guest house.
Our stay was a wonderful experience. We were received very kindly and escorted to our room and all the facilities were explained to us. Places to eat were booked and recommended according to our needs. Definitely value for money accommodation compared to many others in Colesberg.

We stayed 1 night, the facilities were neat and as expected, but there was no help with luggage and no breakfast available. I am a single parent with two toddlers, so help with unpacking would be greatly appreciated.
We didn't get the room we booked. No air conditioning or fridge. Room is in the street! The bar-restaurant is directly opposite the room so there was a lot of noise.

We were kindly received and assigned parking, which was nice and close to the room. The bathroom and bedroom were extremely tidy, and the beds very comfortable.

The caretaker can easily get a course in proper customer service - and he must know that he must be available to the guests at all times.
The guesthouse was very good. We just slept there on the way to Cape Town. It was nice and clean, and we slept well. The Plattelander Restaurant is within walking distance of the guest house. It was excellent.

The host/hostess was jovial, friendly and made an effort to meet our needs. The room is spacious and very comfortable. Upgrading the bathroom may be considered in the future. It doesn't really fit in with the antique (Victorian) feel of the room and the layout is more reminiscent of the early sixties (retro). It also only has a bath in it and a shower/bath combination would be really welcome to accommodate both preferences. A small hair dryer was provided but the power plug was a two prong and there was no two prong power plug anywhere to be found - so the hair dryer could not be used at all. There was no water in the water jug either. It is mentioned that coffee/biscuits are provided in the morning - but we could not locate the biscuits anywhere. Perhaps there could be more focus on this type of detail in the future?

We had a very nice stay. The guest house is conveniently located on the main street, although you can hear the cars and trucks passing by all the time. The place was clean and tidy, especially the bathroom. You can walk to restaurants.
