52 guests' feedbackI can't complain from a value perspective, we got what we paid for - however there were a few things that could be better. The room was not serviced while there and we expected that - bed, dustbins, towels, etc. That is the usual process in a lodge. Also, the shower was outside and needs attention - perhaps with a door and a ledge for toiletries, a towel hook? It's a great idea; however, the weather was cold and it is not pleasant to shower outside - there needs to be an alternative in the room that we had. WiFi password was not offered. The breakfast was very nice, and the host took trouble with the presentation.
Disappointing. First, there was no one to receive us. Finally tracked down someone and was then told there was no reservation for us. Second, it was not clean at all around the residence. The grass was long, meaty bones were lying around the premises and was considerably untidy. My wife and I also felt that safety could be a problem. The website found alternative accommodation at Clanwilliam Accommodation and were grateful that they could accommodate us at short notice.
The way there needs to be better described because we got lost. We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and slept very well.
The staff were very helpful, and friendly, it's a very nice place.
The road to them is a bit confusing. No clear road signs. They are quite far from a town. There is no way to heat food if you want to eat there. Short a microwave oven.
We had a fantastic time together as a family. Benjamin, the owner was just simply great from the time we got there until we left. His service was excellent and he is a top chef. His breakfasts were first class and made us feel very special. I would suggest that whoever stays at Benjamin's place does not even consider eating anywhere but his place. He also has other condos available in the mountain that are fantastic. Thanks for the effort he made to show it to us. Benjamin is a wonderful person who deserves only the best.

A special environment to look at. The host went out of his way to make it pleasant for us. The rooms were neat and clean. We had a great barbecue in a sheltered lapa even though it was not a self-catering place. The host brought plates and cutlery. The breakfast was out of the books! Carefully and specially prepared. It felt like we were eating in a hotel!
We really enjoyed our stay at Ukholo, Benjamin's heart and soul is in this place and he is so friendly and welcoming. We were treated to a lovely breakfast that was truly 5-star!
The old converted farmhouse gives one the farm experience. Wonderful host.

This place is unprepared. In general it needs a lot of attention.
The owner went out of his way to help with things and mingled and chatted with guests.
We felt very much at home.
We are well withered. Felt right at home. The accommodation is not super modern, but neat. We enjoyed the silence. The food was off the books. We had a great time and will definitely go again.
We went to Citrusdal as three families to enjoy the outdoor activities (with mountain bike trails). We then got a place at Ukholo. Due to the drought there was no swimming place near us, but we were then able to spend a day at Clanwilliamdam. The three days in Citrusdal were short but packed with family outdoor activities and hospitality that warmed our hearts.
We stayed overnight on 2nd Jan and it was a lovely escape. The location is ideal to make you feel one with nature. We enjoyed the overnight stay.
Short aircon and don't advertise swimming pool on web page and there is no swimming pool. And toilet was broken.
It was interesting and something new from what we are use to.
Description misleading. If you want a backpacker type of accommodation, this is the place for you. Very informal. Expected a more professional approach. Travel a lot and have never come across such a set up where locals are also part of the set up. As a previous visitor mentioned, the empty beer bottles lying around outside do not create a good impression. For the right type of visitor, this is certainly a good place.
Benjamin is a star, it's very nice and made us feel at home. Amazing.
Ukholo Lodge is a lovely getaway if fresh air is needed. It is cosy and we felt home.
Great bedrooms. Noisy due to the N7. Friendly service, but struggled a bit to get braai equipment from them.
The impression I got is that the place is not finished yet. I would also recommend a microwave in the room. The breakfast was very nice.
Beautiful location, lovely rooms, TV, WiFi, log fire, excellent food, Benjamin is a fantastic host, peaceful and relaxing atmosphere. What more can one ask for such a fair and affordable rate! And he is still upgrading. Will definitely go back again. A few minutes drive to surrounding towns.
Very nice stay. Place well located and room clean and tidy. Breakfast included. Make the cost worth it. It would be good to give comprehensive road directions, especially from Klawer's side. Would definitely stay there again. Good luck with your improvement plans!
In spite of it raining whilst we were there, the fire was great on the Sunday evening in the lounge! We look forward to the next stay there!
No soap in the bathroom, took forever to fill the tub. No card facilities.
Our stay was pleasant. The owner was helpful when we needed assistance with something, but are rather loud while they get on with their own things around the house. I think the venue has a few points that they could improve on namely: quality of coffee, more plug points in the rooms, fix water pressure when drawing a bath, better locks on the outside doors, etc.
Hospitable and friendly service. Breakfast and dinner was delicious. 5-star rooms. Such a cosy place!
We were welcomed with open arms. The weather might have been quite cold, but inside it was nice and warm. The room was neat, clean and comfortable. Dinner and breakfast was top notch. The owner went out of his way to make us feel at home. With the 2 dogs in front of the fireplace, we were missing our own two four-legged friends at home.
The room was pretty, perfect for two people. The shower's hot and cold taps were good. The room is clean and in a quiet area. It is perfect to recharge away from the city's hustle and bustle. Excellent. The reception was very good.
Benjamin welcomed us and immediately we felt at home. A great host, good food and spotlessly clean. Beautifully situated amongst orange orchards with great views. Very relaxing.
The road directions from Pretoria were just not accurate.
We had a nice stay. What did bother me is the following: the toilet was out of order for two days. There is only one power plug in the room for the boiler, fan, laptops and fridge. Ceiling fans can also be fitted. Otherwise stay was good, Benjamin did a great job.
All that is missing is air conditioning or a fan in the rooms. Furthermore, we had a great time and the food was of high quality. The host is very professional and also friendly.
The rooms are very neat and clean, think they just need to make sure that the rooms are ready before they put in new guests. Our room had almost no toilet paper! The staff were very friendly and happy to help where they could. Think they should just pay attention to all the empty beer bottles outside and on the porch, it gives a bad impression of the place. As well as the staff who sit and drink openly throughout the day, this creates a very bad impression of the place! I think the place has a lot of potential!
Under relatively new management - has made positive additions and improvements to make hospitality and comfort a reality. Benjamin still needs to revamp the lounge and the self catering side. However, the rooms are fabulous and reflects Benjamin's flare for creativity. We enjoyed his hearty welcome and meals.
The place is very badly located. The stop/drive roadblock made us drive 20 km past. The owner could have put a bigger sign on the road so that travelers can see it more easily. The room was tidy when we got there. However, it was never swept and the floors were never washed. To top it all off there was no broom or mop so I could do it myself. The detergent was diluted with water. We had to leave the microwave halfway away from the fridge before the wire could reach the wall plug. Needless to say the place was not cleaned once in the 4 days we were there. We also did not get clean bedding. I didn't get my R20 change either. We were at a wedding and left slightly later than the prescribed time and the owner shamelessly pointed this out. I have never been told this at any place to stay. He still has a lot to learn about hospitality.
My wife and I visited Citrusdal for a job interview and decided to explore the area a bit. Ukholo Lodge was an excellent place to do this. Their prices were excellent compared to most places in the Western Cape. The breakfast was also excellent! A few things to remember is that not all rooms have refrigerator facilities. The manager is busy equipping the rooms with more and more such things. What guests can expect is a very neat place to stay with a nice reception. The only disadvantage of Ukholo Lodge is that you can drive quite far if people want to stop on the other side of Citrusdal. However, for exploring Clanwilliam and Citrusdal, Ukholo Lodge is ideal.
We had a friendly welcome and the management immediately made a decision to move us to another room when we highlighted the main road noise. The quality of the linen and towels was good, the bed comfortable. And the food was five star quality. The location of the guest house is good in the sense that you are in nature and can easily climb the hill behind the house. The only negative point is the fact that the noisy N7 is so close. Really something to recommend. I hope this young man makes a big success of his business.
I was pleasantly surprised by the hospitality, friendliness and good service offered by Benjamin and his staff at Ukholo Lodge. The rooms are spacious and comfortable and the breakfast included in the cost is delicious. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who needs a central place to stay to further explore the West Coast.
We were warmly received in a house with excellent facilities, especially for our cerebral palsy granddaughter. We wish Benjamin Thompson only the very best, may the Lord continue to bless him and make his future plans successful. It was a privilege to stay with Ukholo and get to know him better.
While the place still needs some fixing up (work in progress!), the rooms are clean, functional and tastefully decorated. We had a great time, the dinners were very good and once again good value for money. The owner was present and offered good advice on the area. We will most definitely come back ... and with friends!
Very peaceful atmosphere but too small to call "cottage", and no view - it was a long room at the back of the garage. Paint peeling off building and entrance door and no security gate. The cooking utensils were not adequate, the table cloth sticky (outside table), no dustbin, stove only supplied on request, and then the gas ran out. Microwave was faulty. Bed sloped towards the middle. No plugs for bedside lamp, no adaptor plug. After several problems the proprietor apologised for all the inconvenience and did not charge the second half of the fee. He promised to upgrade the facilities. The current photo on the website is misleading.
We were extremely shocked in reception. Contact person provided was not there and no evidence was found that we were booked. Acting person was uninterested, sluggish and clumsy. Tried calling owner but they have no landline facilities. Owner also unavailable / did not answer phone. The accommodation is also set up for "Overlanders" who, admittedly, camp outside. The room was neatly and modernly furnished. The rest of the house is a regular living room and kitchen set up for large groups.
The manager had no knowledge of the area - and spoke only Afrikaans. The nearest village is 20 km away. To swim in the river pools you have to walk across a highway. The pool at the lodge was green and unusable. Breakfast was served without being given any choices (how you like your eggs etc.). Car washing and vacuuming by staff outside my bedroom window on a Saturday afternoon.
